Seeing the two of them together reviewing a camera is somehow so nostalgic. And me mulling over my pre-order of the R8, their input is like probably the most influential element as to whether I'll end up purchasing that camera. It feels so good to see them back together.
Just watched a 20+ minutes video, about cameras I have absolutely no interest in, just because you guys are so entertaining. Love the vids!
Same. Lol
I listened to this while bored at the office
@@redsquarejay still bored afterwards?
1:44 Lock. Lock. Look! No 'loc, lock'.
Slapstick... Super.
This is the man who convinced me spend $2k on camera stuff I never use. But it still feels cool to own them
You know what feels better? You giving them away to someone who can use them properly. Let me know I'll send you an address to ship it lol
@@simonmaduxx6777 Hes shipping it to me Freado!
I watched you on DigitalREV religiously before I first purchased my first DSLR in 2012. A handful of camera bodies later, I'm still watching your videos ;) Thanks for continuously putting out free videos Kai lol
Kaiman, always nice to see Lok as well! I like how you seamlessly alternate between vlog mode and voiceover mode. Coolness! Cheers, brothers of monstrous vid excellence!
This is by far the most entertaining review lol, but I definitely didn't learn anything about the camera other than the heating test at the end lol. Great video loved it! :)
So they slapped on the R mount on the M50, it looks absolutely identical... I had the M50 until I switched to Fuji for personal stuff and I didn't miss any lenses for M mount. The 22mm FF 2 coming to R mount will be a brilliant lens - best APSC pancake on the market imo. Though not as pretty it makes an amazing alternative for something like the x100 series from fuji. Another lens canon needs to bring to RF-S is the 30mm 1.4.
Yeah, Canon has paid a shit ton of money to every YT-er to hipe these dogshit cameras, the R50 is advised to be used in A+ mode, auto mode not manual as it is unusuble in manual mode.. :D These are the worst cameras in the market for this price rather still get the R10 and R7, even the RP.
The M50 currently, is the better proposition than thr R50. The M50 has a tonne of lenses. All the EF-M lenses are sharp (yes including the kit lens if you get a good copy). There are hardly any RF-S lenses out and they are pretty much all EF-M lenses carried over in a new mount. In all cases they are inferior to their EF-M counterparts.
You could of course use RF lenses but then you're paying much more and much heavier than RF-S so defeats the purpose.
IMO I'd still rather buy the M50 in 2023 and have a plethora of available lenses (not even including the adapted EF lenses).
The R10 is much better and the R7 as mentioned by the other comment.
Also, electronic shutter is useless if you actually need it for anything meaningful like sports due to rolling shutter. Mechanical shutter or nothing
@@thetoyota86perspective54 the M50 is not futureproof only for one reason. The M-mount lenses are discontinued and a deadend. However if you have spare money and don't care about future only want a camera for a few more years, then it's absolutely ok. As a photo- or videographer I would not buy it. I would buy the R10 or R7 or the Panasonic S5II for a bit more.
@Z M these comments on future proof are laughable really. I mean, because Canon aren't developing the M50 or EF-M platform anymore doesn't mean everything stops working.
I have EF lenses that are 15 years old still work like new.
If you mean you can't carry across the EF-M lenses, then you have a point to a degree but most people who will eventually upgrade will still keep the M50 and EF-M lenses.
I have my M50 and 12 lenses including 8 EF-M lenses. In many years from now (as there's no point now given my M50 does everything so well) when I do upgrade, it'll probably be full frame and I'll keep my M50 as my travel option and for street photography.
Why would you buy an R10 To have only 3 native lenses available to you?
The R50 and R10 will make sense once there is at least 8-10 lenses on the platform. Canon releasing 3 APSC bodies and only 4 lenses is a joke
For me, I'll probably get the R8 at some point as my full frame workhorse and keep the M50 as my APSC workhorse and will probably use it for travel and street/daily work
WELL it only took like 8 years or so to go back to a killer Canon affordable dslr to sport useful codecs and amazing AF and no big limitations with record lengths.
We needed the R8 a long time ago but the internal 10-bit 4:2:2: is finally making it an awesome edge over sony and panasonic type cams in that price range. Once you rig this up correctly this is a pro option for run and gun shoots.
These guys are the GOATS of camera review!!!!
The R50 turned my new R10 into a pumpkin.
£1699 body only is canon insane!. Hay canon jog on with that price. Should be £1,100 at most!.
Normal salary in the US is 5000 dollars per month, and spending 1-2 weeks of salary on a camera is - normal.
Yeah, that’s the post-brexit gbp devaluation hitting you.
In America its 1500 dollars and quite the steal for us. The 2nd cheapest RF camera ever.
5-7 years ago, 1500 dollars was £1100
Is the r8 eye autofocus on par with r6 mark ii? Or better... in the video, r8 was focusing in the body.. not the eye.. while r50 was spot on
Have been waiting for a B cam/ upgrade for my EOS R
The R8 seems to be a good option
Lpe17 sucks! You never know when its going to die...
Lately your videos started looking more and more like the ones from the old times. All I am missing is incredible views from Hong Kong, very memorable music and ... The Bloody Producer.
From an Australian perspective, interesting that it overheats at 37 degrees, virtually immediately, rendering video shooting unusable for a few months each year.
R8 will sell like crazy
Would pair nicely with a third party lens for those starting photography or video….oh wait
C’mon Canon, allow third party lenses to the RF mount. Future photographers and videographers gotta start somewhere.
I am so glad to see you and lok hanging out together having a great time as usual
KAI is the most pleasure to watch camera review on youtube..
canon are pulling the Sony A7III trick with underpricing their budget body to bring people back. well done canon
So for photography only which one is better EOS R or EOS R8? I do mostly weddings indoor and outdoor… I’m upgrading from 5D mark iii
So R50 is the new rebel :D
Really loving that correlation! Its the mirrorless rebel series fr
The video on that R50 looks absolute gash. Marketed towards content creators but looks no better than 10 year old tech that gave everyone motion sickness trying to watch a vlog.
lets get some rf-s 2.8 zooms... 3 aps-c rf cameras, yet all new lenses are darker than their ef-s/m precursors.
Wish I had one! Such cool cameras!
Kai and Lok are the top gear of camera reviews
That would imply they don’t have a clue what they are talking about, which just isn’t true.
The R50 shoots amazing 4k.
I switched from the R to the Lumix S5.. so far nothing has tempted me to come back to Canon.
But love your videos, thanks!
I have an rp and enjoy it.
I like the upgraded features for the most part over the rp. But I may have to jump to the r6ii for a few more high end features.
Otherwise it’s a fantastic looking camera.
Who knows, maybe I will decide that’s the best price point for me over the r6ii when it comes d down to it.
Loks running commentary makes this video.
Time to upgrade the 6d and to say goodbye to my D-SLR?
You will not regret. However I do think going for R6/R6ii is better because of IBIS and no need to get RF lenses
I love my old 6d mk 2, with FD lens adapter 😂
DSLR is dead
Nah dslr still have there place. If you don't need 4k and also don't want to be stuck in rf lens system with no 3rd party options, I'd stay, or look at Sony.
@@zegzbrutal wait - can we not use an adapter for the EF mount lenses on the R8?
Put a motorbike on your yacht, just to show Canon that you won't bow to their focus dogma.
They’ve totally ignored the need for the rich to film their helicopter landing on their yacht, there’s airplane AF but no helicopter AF! Rich people have feelings too!
Loks oven is so clean, do his RUclips millions allow him to constantly eat out?
That’s the Super Bokeh Bros Lab Camera Overheating Testing… err… Oven.
No my wife and I just use the air fryer most of the time!
that's the camera cooking oven. :)))
For information Kai, Nikon has just proposed a new firmware for the Nikon z5, which "revolutionizes" its autofocus which was already not that bad..
Kai, I'm wondering, what do you do with all those pictures that you take? Do you have time to enjoy them? I wonder if you just take them and never see them again.
I think the AF settings Lok uses might be the culprit in R8 video?
I currently have the EOS RP and was thinking of getting the R8. I am in no way a professional I am an average joe taking photos at Disneyland and so on. Would it be an upgrade in your opinion? And Would you upgrade from the RP? TIA
If you take videos R8 is an upgrade but not for photos. The colours and ”feel” of the images out of the camera are nicer from RP.
I have the 5dm4 and tons of EF lenses....I'm a hobbyist. Is the R8 and RF line up superior? Is it worth replacing my old 7Dm1 with an R8 and use an adapter so I can use EF lenses? Would the R8 with adapter and EF lenses still be a great combo?
I'd hold onto the 5D mark 4 personally. Bigger camera and all but it has its pro's. Weather sealed, Pro grade camera. Longer battery life too. The 5D IV will go down in history as one of the classics
Upgrade. Also consider the meike adapter that has Nd filter which will help when doing vids
What canon with best cinematography and photos for under $1000 ?
I watch your videos since 2014
I'm still waiting for UFO, tracking please :)
Great as always
Ages since youtube sent me your vid, great to see you both having fun .. and boring smoothe Mario! ;)
Could we get some more RF lens reviews please? Would love to see that!
Where is that park, is it Kew Gardens?
Do the Canon R8 and Canon R50 have the same type of battery
15:50
Hey Kai and Lock, what do you guys think comparing price points of the R8 vs the A7r III off the used market?
R50 or Sony ZV E10? I need help!
10:49 either over exposed or under exposed on my TV but did OK on my tablet.
definitely enjoy all the humour for two quite boring cameras
I hope the neewer and other 3rd party vertical grips for the RP also work on the canon R8!I wish they had an SD card extender cable that allowed sd card access from the grip itself. that's the only downside of the 3rd party vertical grips.
There is no way this is the replacement for the R which I've been waiting for! I need dual card slots, IBIS, the 30MP found on the R and both codecs All-I and IPB.
Don't think we'll ever see a direct R replacement at this point - there's no room left in the lineup for it. R6 Mk II is the closest you're gonna get
@@rimtiggins6078 Hey buddy I think you are correct and its a darn shame because I consider myself a Canon Girl. I started my channel with the SL2, moved on to the RP and sold it to get the R which I love but I also own the A7S3, GH5 and new OM1 so it's not like I need another Camera but I find myself going back to the R time and again for its ease of use and the best menu system around. I have invested in better RF lenses so until Canon can give us a real R replacement she'll have to do!
I want to upgrade from my Canon EOS M5, and after watching a lot of reviews I've decided I'm definitely getting an EOS R7. Or maybe an R10. The R6 Mark II is still a possibility too, or possibly the R8. Anyway, I've firmly settled on one of those four cameras. Probably. Maybe I should consider the Sony options? Nikon's not out of question either. And I can't rule out the Lumix S5 II, since Panasonic got the autofocus working. And I haven't even looked at the Olympus lineup yet. Never mind, that's all just details; I'm definitely getting a new camera. Or should I just get a couple of nice lenses and see how far that M5 can take me?
Photography's easy. It's the shopping that's hard.
If you can swing it, the R6 Mark II is very well rounded... the autofocus feels like a miniature R3
@@cybervehicle That's what I'll probably end up buying. In a few months. In the meantime I've gone with the last option. I recently bought two used EF lenses (16-35mm f/4 L and 70-200mm f/4 L) and an EF to EF-M adapter. I'll use those with the M5 while I save up some money for a new body.
I have an M50 and about 12 lenses. For stills photography it is more than sufficient and I love it.
All these cameras are a "nice to have" but I've used the M50 for everything from sport to weddings and hasn't let me down
Lok referencing 5D Mark ii…old school!!! 😂
One of the things I missed when downgrading from the R5 to the RP was the ability to add cropping information (not aspect ratio), which would show guide lines and 'pre-crop' the RAW file when importing to LR. I liked being able to add cropping info for 5:4. Is that available for the R8?
How did you find the downgrade, in terms of loss resolution especially? Any other complaints? Super interested by your experience. I am looking at getting a second RF body, with a fast shutter (necessary to my work) which can also double as a cheaper travel body. A bit heavy at time, or unnerving to carry such an expensive camera at time.
@@AlexandrePRODHOMME I think the three biggest things missed with the downgrade are:
- Loss of resolution, with the R5 I didn’t feel the need for more than the 70-200 since I could always crop in. This is mostly for wildlife. If you don’t really shoot that you might not miss it as much.
- Lack of the cropping info guidelines for 5:4 shooting. If you’re good at visualizing in your head or don’t really shoot vertical 5:4 for IG this might not matter at all for you.
- Lack of in body stabilization. This would mostly be for shooting at 200 or shooting at low light. Haven’t tested this extensively to know if it’s a huge enough loss yet.
The huge gain is weight and portability though. And overall cost. On a capture clip over a long hike my shoulders thank me. If that’s not a feature you need (portability for travel), then I would recommend sticking with the R5 or another more capable. Especially since you require fast FPS burst.
@@WillTung Thanks for the answer! Fast FPS burst is definitely a pro of the R5, although the R3 beats it to it. And have a sexy 1/64000s... But this new/cheaper body would often be mounted on a nodal head, to shoot bracketed HDR pano (vfx work). If it can burst 7 photos before I rotate to the next angle and clear the buffer, we should be good? Resolution might be the one thing that I am a bit concerned. I thinnnk, I will test it with my R5 set to a similar resolution and see if I can cope.
I guess the lack of IBIS kills the idea of using it on travels, as I like to film a lot... bummer...
Wanted to move from d750 to r range, but r6 plus lens just too out of budget. Not convinced of z5 for weddigns. But r8 really excited me! Canon mirrorless for me!
Yeah, cameras and lenses seem pretty high these days, right? I'm quite tempted by the R8 and the 15-30, too.
RHS Wisley!
Thanks! How are the colors on this camera for video? Are they the same as the Canon R5 out of camera?
Good attempt but Jared Polin said they didn't overheat
Good ol duo. Love u two lmao
5:19 NO BOATS??? 🤣
Where is Alamby?
Damn I might actually buy the R8 over the R.
We need CC for Lok … every day that passes less is understood what he says. If this comment reach 100 like, next video must have CC in Lok dialogue
where was this filmed? edit:found it rhs garden wisley
Can you compare the R8 vs original R6?
Still using the LP-e17 battery? That is naff in my M50, I can't see lasting longer in these cameras. As basic & under-specced as my 6D DSLR's focus system is I still haven't seen a desirable replacement for it that is affordable, maybe I just losing the passion for GAS...
I confused whether i buy Lumix s5 ii or canon r8. Any advice?
What Happened to Digital REV?
Wow the R50 footage looks horrible 😢
Do more videos about the canon r50
Just waiting for them to update the firmware of the other cameras..
Too fun to be a preview video, lol. Btw, R8 will sell like hot cake
Nah I think people would rather go for RP since its now cheaper and plus it has IBIS.
Well, the R8 has the advantages of autofocus improvements and an updated processor.
@@moontecker RP doesn't have IBIS
Does the R8 overheat at 4K 30 fps in more than an hour of recording?
Lock! Lok: What? 🤣🤣🤣
i thought the AF problem happens only with me with the EFS 18-135mm STM, thought i had a bad copy, then i saw this problem exist on the RFS lens as well ummmm
What is the lowest usable iso on R8. Is the same as on R6 mk2? Same sensor, same processor inside?
I got 6D and I can shoot long event with magic lantern and what I need is long video mode in 1080p and better iso. Is that usb charging fast enough for recording with power bank continously?
S5ii or R8? Been burnt by Canons EFM line up so unsure if I should stick with Canon of shift to Panasonic
If you want full frame, I'd rather go Canon or Sony to be honest but for me personally I prefer crop as I shoot sports mainly so I'd go either Canon or Fuji.
I find Sony to be uninspiring and the ergonomics look off. Also their menu system looks convoluted but their lens range is great
The autofocus in Canon is better than in Panasonic and the difference in size and weight is huge.
To put EF lens or full frame lens on this cameras it requires a spacer or adapter?
does this have mechanical shutter
Canon with Lok in video
Why is the r8 so dark? Garbage colors , the only thing canon does well and they ruined it
They had to bring the cripple camera to hammer the price down...
at this price, may as well get the Lumix S5
@@OptingForTheOutdoors probably a7s4 when it drops , reselling panny lenses is a nightmare
10:27 Digital ass on? 😂
What does this make of the Canon R7?
Looks like you are in the Netherlands
The R50 missing the badge... makes the camera look like a stock photo of the camera. Ya know when they erase the logos on stock photos lol.
do intermal mic suck?
the goats
Hey Kai. What park is that?
Some furry sculpted those rabbits.
Is this R8 weather sealed ?
I miss you guys. Move vids please!
How's the tone Lok 🤔🤣🤦♂️
Fun video! Is it just me or the video edit, but I do not like the color. They look dull and not very natural to me.
imo sony zv e10 > canon r50
RP on steroids
Milking the cashcow until it hurts
Yacht club bros around the world will lose their shiz over the Helly Hansen comment 😂
Ah, well, they'd only be interested in Leicas anyway so they probably wouldn't be watching a video about entry level cameras!
So for photos is this better or worse than the original eos R
Eos R one of the worst in low light. Anything better than that,
@@brummelstudio Lol, no it's not. I've been using it since it came out for all my work and I shoot daily in very bad lit restaurants and low light environments . Just learn how to use your gear right.
Canon R8 or Sony a7c???
Depends what gear you have already but the R8 has the new sensor from the R6 mark ii where as the a7c is rocking the 2018 A7 mark iii sensor and I think the A7 mark iii is actually now the cheaper of the two. There are rumours the a7c mark ii will be out later this year though.
Rolling shutter looks horrible on the R8 and R50.
