  • Using the Casio CT-X3000 as sketch pad is fairly quick and easy. By saving a recorded song as a SMF (Standard MIDI File) on a USB Flash drive allows you to then upload those ideas into a DAW and shape and edit your initial ideas further.
The keyboard is also more quickly available when inspiration strikes, and you don't want to forget your ideas. You don't have to wait for the PC to load or while it does an update!
However, the DAW may not assign the tracks to the tones you had in mind on the keyboard, but that still gives you freedom to select either similar tones or go in a new direction. MIDI captures just the finger movements and timing of your performance and in the DAW you then have the flexibility and freedom for further development as you build your piece.
    Thanks for watching!

Thanks again Stewart for your continued efforts in displaying the functionality of the CT-X3000 keyboard and your DAW software. I've learned much from your informative videos. There is so much more for me to learn and the rhythm editor function is one of them. I did create one rhythm so far, I just need to create more variations of it. The MIDI data function is complex but I did move some of my user tones and compositions to a back up flash drive. I do have one question. If there is a power outage, will the Casio loose the user data? Again, thanks Rob J.

Loss of power doesn't mean a loss of data - as long as it's recorded in your keyboard it will be there the next time you turn it on. It's a good idea to back up to a USB drive though. All the best.

Hi Anja, to turn off/mute/solo a part can be done by going into the mixer section.
But first, for a midi file make sure the PART selected is MIDI IN on the keyboard. If it's not, then hold down PART/MIXER button so the red light comes on and use the -/+ to change the part - on the screen you want it so read either 1-8 MIDI In or 9-16 MIDI In. Once you've selected it, press the PART/MIXER button again and the red light will go out.
Now do a long press on the PART/MIXER button so you're in MIXER mode. Here you can now solo and mute each track of the midi file - and also adjust volume, pan, reverb, chorus and delay. If you want to solo a track press ENTER then you'll hear just that track. The bass part will probably be track 2 or 3. Track (channel 10) is reserved for percussion and drums.
You won't be able save though - the Casio only saves songs recorded into one of the keyboard song memories. The midi file is playback only. You'll have to use a midi editor in a DAW to get tracks into a format that the Casio will load.
      I hope that helps.
