- Team Fortress 2 and variety go hand in hand, especially so when it comes to the myriad of custom gamemodes the community creates.
Today, we're covering one such custom game mode, Fortress Royale, a story of how a true gem can get swept up by the sands of time.

Just to let you know Mikusch, the creator of this mode, is remaking Fortress Roayale and planning to make it playable on redsun by 2023. It's still early but much of the work is already done meaning it shouldn't take him more than one year

If there was any game mode that showed off how TF2's hit reg is completely fucked, it was this one. Still had lots of fun playing it, and I was totally the best and got all the dubs.
I'm certain there is hope.
If this video gets enough attention, it would be likely a person could watch this video and decide to recode the gamemode, reviving it.
"players don't want to try new things" guess I'm the exception then, I'm always scouring for the most wacky ass gamemodes that nobody's ever heard of. Sometimes you find a real diamond in the rough but it doesn't have enough players to take off so it just collects dust. Same goes for gmod. I love getting a new take/idea/spin on something I'm already familiar with that shakes it up and adds new dynamics/elements to it, especially modes that give classes new characteristics or have different roles, like boss fight or robot team modes. Wish more love was given to modes like these
Such a wonderful video on an amazing game mode. Custom gamemodes like this give so much life to TF2. It's sad how many amazing projects can be left to die just because of marketing issues. I'd love to try and revive this someday, it looks like a lot of fun. 🔥

Glad I got to experience this gamemode, even for a few times.
This is a extremely good video, mainly because there are so many cool servers out there being ignored (and because this is well made and made me interested in the mode)
I managed to get myself and a buddy on one during it decay, crashed halfway through the game, but we had some high intensity moments where we were shitting ourselves wondering where the other was. Good times.

It's pretty convenient that I got this video recommended, as of this day 10th of June 2023, I actually was able to play an updated version of the BR TF2 mode before stumbling upon this and honestly it's pretty fun, however, it's not a thing that is just "hosted" as it's own separate thing like in this video you made, but just to let you know that if you pay attention to the redsun servers, you might be in for a surprise not long from now once the "Random gamemode" option is chosen and this little diamond of a gamemode does happen to pop up again.
It was a pretty entertaining video to watch aswell so props to you for the nice editing and storytelling too. 👍

Looking at server browser has to be the most depressing thing I've ever seen in the game, and it's been that way since ~2015
God, thats what happend to my gamemode on open fortress, it was named open fortress zombies, they changed the bot code and then it was ruined, i did switch back to an older version hopeing to get it working good as new.

Funny enough I recall playing a tf2 battle royale server before in early 2019 and it was nothing like this. It was probably far more unstable due to the fact every weapon was usable and classes all had the same movement speed and health

Oh... oh you reminded me of the original MvM Randomizer, there were a few servers for it but then one day it, vanished without a trace, now someone would revive it, however, there's one notable difference, in the original version, your cosmetics were randomized from all of the ones in the game, even ones like the Notch's head, and ones that don't belong on that class, however, the newer version just randomize your cosmetics from your active loadouts from all 9 classes, there's one server for the new one, and I'm just glad it's still around, I play on it time to time, still r.i.p. the Old version of MvM randomizer, and r.i.p. this game mode as well alongside probably others.
And what bout that havent been made until (probably idk) now, the Fortress Mode that was supposed to be in the game but ended up scrapped.
There is this map called "The lodge" The creator is awesome and they have 3 gamemodes you can play in the back, you can have fun with the mods and its generally a fun little area people join time to time. ive only been able to see the creator once, let alone play the server only 2-3 times, but its still fun and i get excited when i see people on it

Yo, I just found this vid and I'm so sad I missed my chance to play this really creative gamemode! I really do hope they can bring it back, I wouldn't even mind if there was a patreon or someway to back the server space for it :)
holy depressing bro... I played on an arena two fort server for a long time before it was shut down and this reminded me of that.

I remember a wacky map server that has random gamemodes being custom ones with original ones in there. Great time in my entire life, it's like a gamble what map your going to get, a terrible one, janky, or decent, or even a good one in there. Some is meme joke type of maps some are not. Sucks I can't find that server anymore.

Ah, this reminds me of a gamemode in Counter-Strike 1.6, it was basically a Paintball mode with bunnyhoping. You could also buy buffs for money like faster walking, less visibility, lesser gravity and double jump. Making it so that the best players would have all the buffs and you with none or 1 (you lost all of it after dying, but if you stayed alive a round the buffs would stay). It was just this server where there were a bunch of tryhards going at mach 10 and oneshotting you, but it was fun.
Seems like a fun gamemode!

Never played this. But I have played br in Fistful of frags, on a server on which I always had 70 ping, I still enjoyed it.

I've been playing tf2 since 2010, all my favorite best servers are dead, and all the crappy servers with corrupt staff and overused maps modded into a laggy mess are still alive.... there are very few good servers now and the ones that exist all struggle to fill up slots

Engineer Was Able to Build His Buildings?
Engineer had a myriad of buffs to make him stand out, there's a list of all the class changes on the github in the desciption if you're interested :)
I hope that one day, we get a official tf2 aprilfoolsupdate that adds a dedicated "hat simulator" gamemode for one day, where you get random hat drops for playing in the event.

you shouldn't worry about this one, br is something for the newer games to have, tf2 will always have x100 or randomiser

I think that this gamemode should be ported to TF2Classic. Since TF2C allows for easier weapons modification and has (admittedly not very good) animations for classes using weapons they aren't supposed to it would be a good fit. Also, Civilian would be a pretty cool class, being as fast as a demoman, extremely short, and having 200 (400 in this gamemode) health. Plus the addition of Jumper pads would allow for more chaotic engineer gameplay
This is how I feel about the old multi-rocket dodgeball servers. They're impossible to find now, with the only dodgeball left being single rocket servers where only the sweatiest tryhard on each team actually gets to play.
This goes for real life too.😥

Most of these gamemodes I find with players are just crit servers. Like I want to play randomizer but not a randomizer 10x crit server.

Try out pipeball its a real gameode made by the community and I think there are only two maps made for it. As for map selection if you want to suffer choose ultra but if you want a decent/good experience choose canyon. Also I dont know of there are any servers running this map so good luck with that.
