Tried out a new Mic set up. The audio wasn't great on this one and we will try to get it figured out.

I have a 2006 Jetta TdI with the manual, I have indeed had the Camshaft issue, but I replaced it @ 190K, its on its second Cam, and it still kicking at 240K with little to no issues with electrical besides an alternator or 2 over the last 60K I've owned it. And the vinyl issues, other than that, Absolutely love this car with its outstanding fuel economy

I bought an 1.9 ALH diesel mk4 Jetta. Love it to death. Because it’s a manual I get 40 without even trying and 50 when truing. My gf drives the auto and gets 42max. 99.5 to 03 are cheaper to fix too.

So I have an OG 2006 VW Jetta TDI from when my dad used to drive it a long time ago. It's still running like new and it has never let me down. I'm a huge fan of this car! The only issue is it HATES anything below 50 F (10 c) so it takes a second to start up in those colder temps but it DOES start and still run just fine.
I've never had any rust issues, never any major issues with the Jetta either. Just general maintenance. Some of my friends didn't know the car was diesel and so they thought the loud engine was a BAD thing, but it's normal! I love this car and will drive it til I can't repair it anymore (and even then I may try to get it repaired!) It's PRICELESS!

I had an 06 with the DSG automatic and roughly 220,000 miles and honestly it was pretty reliable and a great car. These obviously aren’t as reliable as the ALH motors but I think they are actually better than the newer 2.0TDIs which have much more emissions equipment and expensive failures like the high pressure fuel pump.

I just bought an 06 jetta TDi with 235k miles on it (my first VW). The issues I've discovered on these cars is the automatic transmission problems, which my car has. Hard downshifting or upshifting is common, usually the valve bodies need to be replaced. My camshaft was just replaced as well as the trans fluid and filter. All around I really like the car, I get about 45mpg, but the transmission downshifting hard will have to be addressed soon.

I had a 2001 TDI Jetta a standard transmission got good mileage and now a 2002 TDI Jetta automatic. The standard gave better mileage. I was going to buy a later model Jetta but i not interested all of the problems with the common
Rail engines and the soot collection.. As far as the earlier cars with the camshaft problem i think you can buy better made cam and lifters . I do that and change the timing belt ect . Thats still not a bad deal compared to the high dollar price of the later models repairs. As far as horsepower its the torque these engines give that impressive to me and give pretty good mileage.. if i can not find a low mileage clean TDI Jetta that is precommon rail i buy a Honda accord

Sounds like a bad deal if they never maintained it I got a 230k and the cam failed at 250k
