    I have a 2006 with the diesel engine. Currently has 533,000 miles on it and it is still more reliable than any car I've ever owned. Would take it cross country in a heartbeat. AC blows ice cold for the summer, and the heat and heated seats work amazing in the winter. Amazing car, you drive this car and then drive a comparable Toyota Corolla or Civic from the same year, and the Jetta feels like a luxury car compared to them.

    If you live in the northern part of the north-east (Maine) another neat "feature" of that glove box vent is: If you leave that glovebox vent open, it will 100% have mice in the car in winter. I don't know why that one friggin' vent makes mice able to access every part of the car, but it does. Close it and no mice. Regardless, Use Peppermint oil to completely rid any small space of mice.
    I digress.
    I wanted to share another pretty friggin' awesome feature of almost every single VW MK's - Steering wheel telescope and tilt, standard. It makes a huge difference in your Fahrvergnügen . :)

    I didn't know of a few of these on my 2010 jetta. Always wondered why there was a vent in the glove box. Didn't know about rolling the windows down with the key fob! My Jetta came with some L shaped plastic things in a plastic sleeve and one day I opened them and they have Velcro on one side so that I can support things placed in the trunk so they don't roll all over. Now I'll also use the hook!

    My jetta came with this cool feature where the previous owner ripped out the "buttons" on the panic button for the keys. After about a couple years of owning the car I think there is lint or something stuck on one of the sensors because I've had to take the batteries out of my keys to prevent the alarm from going off constantly. Could be something else but this is what I chalked my alarm going off constantly if I touch my keys up to, hasn't happened since I removed the battery from my keys

    If you live where it snows, you can shut the engine off, hit the mist on the wipers and they’ll stop in the full up position. This allows you to clean the snow off your windshield without packing it down into the cowl. You can start the car and let it warm up and the wipers won’t go back down until you hit the mist or start to move.

    • @chadg8432
      @chadg8432 Год назад +4

    My sister in law just bought a 2007 Volkswagen Jetta from my neighbor who left state so we can't get ahold of him....
    Both key fobs have been worn down to barely an imprint on the main buttons, 1 of the key fobs quit working and it has the red button/flap missing from the side. We are wondering if it's the battery in the fob that isn't working or is the red thing something it needs to function? Either way does she need to buy a new one or is the red button/flap a way to charge it? We can't open or move the one that's still there... But the missing one almost looks like some sort of port because it's so deep. I'm trying to Google it (that's how I got here 😅) but am only finding links to buy a new fob and no answers on what the red button is/does.

    • @lightdark00
      @lightdark00 2 года назад

      The red button is the panic button, to set off the alarm.
      Years ago I looked and you could get replacement FOBs on ebay, but you had to change all the parts and circuit board over.

      If you’ve got the option on your radio where it says FM AM CD then some arrows, you need to hit the CD button, then hit it again. The aux port for mine is in the center console. Might be different for you but it took me a while to find on mine. Best of luck.

      Nolan, If I were you, I wouldn't bother. You can buy a good car stereo for about 50 bucks with bluetooth and usb and you can connect your phone to it for handfree phone conversation and also play music from your phone. My 2009 Jetta Sportswagen came with a great unit with a 5 disc changer. I replaced it. Old technology. Who uses CDs nowadays?
      I copied all my CDs (over 100) on a tiny usb flash drive (32 GB) and left the flash drive permanently attached to the stereo. That way I have all my music with me wherever I go. More convenient than copying the songs on the phone and then play from the phone.

      The only part of the arm rest I don't like is that you should not lean on it with your elbow while it is ratcheted. It feels like it wants to break.
      Other than that, it is very comfortable for trips. I use the storage area underneath it for gloves and phone charging cord.

      So you remove the outer door skin via a bunch of torx bolds that are covered by plastic, and then you can disconnect the entire wire loom and find the broken wires. Most likely you have a break somewhere in the flex. I had two separate wires that cracked due to age in my passenger's side front door.I just soldered each back together and shrink tubed them. You'll have an easier time finding and fixing these if you pull the door skin (yeah, it's the outer metal skin that comes off). Then you can disconnect the complete wire bundle from the door electrics, without having to pry off the inside door panel, or disconnect each door electronics or speakers. Took me a little over an hour start to finish. (if nothing in the door works, window, lock, speakers, you might have a main power wire broken, or a full disconnect of the wire loom itself.

    Those features still don't make up for the funky electrical issues. I received an 08 jetta from my Mom 2 years ago with only 27,000 original miles on it and I've had nothing, but weird electrical things occur. It started with a funky tick that comes from the passenger glove box area, then the headlights went out one after the other, then it stopped beeping when locking, then the rear drivers door wouldn't open from the outside and the window stopped too, then it opened again, but still won't lock and no window, the passenger defrost mirror blew out so I had a grey mirror, till I found a stick on mirror for $10. So currently still no beep, still no locked rear door oh and I just replaced another headlight. Anyone else this lucky?

    • @samueldusciuc6401
      @samueldusciuc6401 2 года назад +2

      Headlights go out for a number of reasons. Cold, humidity or a combination and I would check fuses. Disconnect your battery before doing the following. The lack of beeping is probably a blown fuse. There are 2 fuse boxes, one in the engine bay and one on the driver side when you open the door right in the dash itself (use your key to pop off the panel). Cannot recall where every fuse is exactly. Your odd clicking noise in the glovebox is probably a failed little motor ($20 USD) for the vent that controls in cabin flow or from outside flow. Change the cabin air filter while in there. Defrost mirror is either your unit failed and needs replacement ($30 ~ $60 USD or so on Amazon) or another fuse. The only thing that truly is defect on this car is your failed locks. I have the same issue everything else is wear and tear. Run LIQUI MOLY 5W-40 MOLYGEN for your engine oil and change out the transmission oil to Liqui Moly ATF 1200 as this oil is not lifetime and should be changed every 80,000 miles or so. Also, wait till the engine is warmed up before gassing it and ensure you do get it over 2000 rpms when you do here and there. The engine is from the Audi TT line and it likes to go. It will build up soot if you idle it and cruise it always under 3000 rpms. If you get this car to high miles (mine is 172,000mi) don't forget a new fuel filter, a solenoid valve (releases gases from the gas tank and is easily found on Amazon and I would stay far away from Ebay for this part) and a gas cap for proper fuel economy. If you commute a lot in the dark purchase led fogs and put them into your highbeams (make sure you get some under 6000 lumens as to not blind others) and replace the rear sway to aftermarket (do NOT forget locknuts). I recommend Nokian WR G4 tires if you're looking for serious grip. Lastly note the American fuel has lower standards of rating (our premium is not the same quality as European premium). I do not run unleaded, only premium 92/93 and I add 32oz of Marvel MM13R Mystery Oil every few months on a fill up here and there ($30 or so for a gallon on Amazon). Careful with such a setup with fresh tires, which are broken in after 1000 miles or so and such work will make you put torque down quite well.
