Jim always talks completely forgetting that most of us get into this stuff as kids, so yes, some did believe Taker was undead...
Why can't he accept that pro-wrestling is not a sport, it's a show. A show that is put on by incredible athletes that put themselves in real danger, but still a show. It's basically theatre, Jim, suspend your disbelief. If you want combat sports, go and watch MMA.

Kane beat the shit out of many others of the best throughout his career though. And people would flat out opt to run from him. Like I said, Taker is hax'd as hell, and NO ONE under the sun is on prime undertakers level, so saying "he couldn't EVEN beat his brother" is completely arbitrary on your end as a reason why Kane wasn't that great. Also you moved the goalpost. First you insinuated he wasn't great but then you say he's not on undertakers level, and I'm not arguing that. No one is on undertakers level.

I could be wrong, but I always thought it tied into the Incredible Hulk character at the time. On the old TV show, one of Bruce Banner's catchphrases was 'don't make me angry, you wouldn't like me when I'm angry', and that kind of tied into the 'Hulking up' - Hogan was simply so angry at having been beaten down that he momentarily turned into a monster, long enough to no-sell another couple of punches, then hit the Big Boot and Leg Drop.

It takes some serious dedication and a special kind of talent to make those kinds of gimmicks work. Not only do people need to believe that you're all kinds of messed up when they see you on tv, they need to believe you're always that way.
If you look at guys like Kane and The Undertaker in their prime, and Bray Wyatt now, even their private lives revolved around keeping themselves hidden away from the public to protect that image.
I think that's a big part of why it just seems goofy as hell to see someone like Matt Hardy acting like a crazy person with superpowers. We all know damn well that's not who Matt Hardy is, and nothing about it is authentic, and if you can't make people believe you're nuts, you sure as hell can't make em believe you have supernatural powers.

It's great that Jim clarified that he also had issues with Kane and Taker's supernatural stuff as well as similar items. Sometimes, people just want to have a little bit of stupid fun, so let them have an outlet for that. However, the main point of these criticisms against Jim is that even with the unironic supernatural gimmicks, wrestling as a business didn't die a horrible death for it. People can have fun with stupid things that are done reasonably well, so give AEW a chance to to Broken Matt well.

And of course putting Jim Cornette back in and giving him a leadership position. That would be the best thing for wrestling right now.
      - NWA should get better budget/production value. It looks like shit compared to AEW and WWE.
      - the top guys at AEW (MJF, Jericho, Lance Archer Cody Rhodes Matt Hardy, etc..) leave and go to NWA

cobedizzle wrestling shouldn’t 100% be sports based, njpw is an example of perfect wrestling, how it should be presented, they get as close to sports based as you should. And you still get the odd cartoony character/story. That’s apart of wrestling, if you want wrestling where there’s none of that then you want wrestling where there’s never another Taker, never another stone cold, never another star.

A R I didn’t say it should. AEW said their product would be. It’s not. It’s their version of sports entertainment. It’s WWE lite.

cobedizzle it’s wwe lite because it’s not 100% sports based? No that’s just wrestling. They said they’d be sports based that doesn’t mean they lose all aspects of wrestling that aren’t sports based

A R it’s wrestling created by wwe. That’s their style. AEW is just sports entertainment under another name. Disappointing.

All my favorite wrestling moments as a kid involved Taker.. Jake slamming his hand in the casket then dragging it with him going after Roberts, dropping Hogan on his head to win the Belt, locking Warrior in the casket,@ Royal Rumble where he "dies" and is resurrected @ SS 94 (best return imo) him pulling Diesel underneath the ring @ IYH ,Buried alive w/Mankind(hand sticking out of the grave), the Kane fued man i can go all day as a kid it was easier to believe the gimmicks my low key favorite gimmick was Papa Shango beside Taker of course.

Undertaker and Kane having "Super powers" should never have gotten over but it did. It was a billion to one and it was awesome.
Any BS like this is putting money in a slot machine. Most of the time you just lose.

I agree here. Although I do think that you should take something and run with it, however I don't know if the billion in one chance massive success is worth the whole wrestling business. The supernatural stuff did expose the business when it was at its height of popularity, and now that the cat is fully out of the bag, we now live in a world where Kayfabe is dead save for MJF being pretty much the SOLE wrestler to uphold that code. And maybe Lance Archer of AEW but thats yet to be fully seen. And less and less people are taking wrestling "seriously."

What's cheesy now is that in this reality era they're trying to do the same thing with Bray Wyatt with the red light and the big ass hammer from death or whatever and being pretty much invincible jumping back up to his feet like nothing ever happened but then squashes it by him losing to Goldberg so I don't know now I can see his cheesy but back then it wasn't because we were in the attitude era and it wasn't the behind the scenes of everything like it is now where we all know what's going to happen on the show before it happens like I was excited whenever an undertaker promo would come out and I would see his magic tricks or powers or whatever even though I didn't think they were real it was still cool

    • @yowiewowie9116
      @yowiewowie9116 4 года назад +2

If you paid attention you would see even after he "losed to goldberg" he still popped right on his feet aint shit cheesy about the fiend i can get the funhouse, tho i like it you cant tell me with a straight face that the fiend wouldnt have scared the shit outta of you back in 97' i understand what your trying to say but bray is not in that category

@@yowiewowie9116 I never said Bray Wyatt was cheesy, I like Bray slot even the fiend and when seeing the red lights n how cool it looks it takes me back to when I was a kid looking at taker and Kane but that's not what my point was... Back then we didn't know the behind the scenes n stuff or how matches take place and stuff like we do now so to try n make him so unstoppable to where he can get a sledge hammer to the skull in-between debris and still over power Seth but loose to Goldberg from just 4 spears makes no sense.. lol that's all I was trying to say like the guy that was suppose to be Kurt angles long lost son... Yeah that didn't play out to well.... My point is if they really wanna keep the fiend alive they need to protect the character like they did with undertaker's otherwise there will be a new Bray gimmick n somewhere down the line

Undertaker and Kane were cool with a lot of shit they did. The shooting lightning bolts was dumb, but stuff like crucifying Austin or setting opponents on fire got their evilness over. My issue with broken Matt is the shitty comedy he way trying to do in his promo combined with the goofy teleportation. If you're going to do that, then don't put him in a serious "blood and guts" match

As a kid, I thought that Undertaker Royal Rumble Casket Match stuff was the coolest thing I had ever seen. It made me get into the whole Undertaker story & mythology even more.
That said...MATT HARDY IS NOT THE FUCKING UNDERTAKER!!

As a kid watching I loved when Kane and Undertaker would use lightning and fire to tell their stories. Nowadays if it’s done it’s not as big an impact on me but I’m sure kids are still in awe of it.
