Very few things have been good original booking ideas that nobody came up with in the last decades and rightfully so. Wrestling plays with the perception and the psychology of the crowd. you can alter the presentation and the flavour of things in order for them to remain fresh, but coming up with original ideas that nobody has come up with before without being too complicated or convulated is incredibly difficult, and i dont think that any booker nowadays have such genius that they Can pull this off.
When you think about it, the real rivalry was Undertaker vs. Paul Bearer. When he first turned on Taker and aligned with Mankind and Vader against him, it became all about Paul’s vendetta. And he single-handedly made this formerly and still somewhat supernatural character into a real person that had a family. Paul’s genius and skill made this entire thing.
Retconning & convolution really tainted the character of Kane. He had been unmasked on several occasions in storyline. I believe in 1999, I can remember an instance when the corporation attacked Kane, unmasked him & took pictures of his face. They used the photos to blackmail him & reacted to his disfigured face. All that gets muddied when he unmasked in 2003 & stated that his scars were "psychological".
I actually liked unmasked Kane, because the subtext (to me at least) was that he wasn't badly burned, he really just had severe body dismorphia, which I thought was an interesting development for the character.

What I felt that was boring was seeing them rehash the same footage from the undertaker documentary and seeing them gloss over 1999, 2001, 2002, and 2003. They barely even discussed Kane’s role in the buried alive match. But I digress. These were two of the best characters the WWE has created. The mystique, the dark overtones, and the fact that they were monsters…made it extra special. I think undertaker needed to change to the American badass because you could only do so much with the deadman/lord of darkness undertaker. There was no need for the ministry of darkness gimmick when the group disbanded. Plus undertaker adapted in the ring as a wrestler. I’m not sure who said this, but undertaker returning as the deadman (or a hybrid of the character) at XX was special not only because of Paul bearer, but he was able take a little of big evil in the ring and use that in the ring. He didn’t have to be big evil outside the ring. But he could use those moves without going full blown deadman in the ring.
I’ll never forget the promo where Paul Bearer is telling McMahon Kane is coming and Vince can’t help but crack up and keep laughing mid Bearer promo 😂😂

I know people don’t care for unmasked Kane but that first run literally was terrifying! Unmaked Kane was a beast for that first run! Everyone was scared of him!
Something just dawned on me listening to Jim talking about how the old thick blue/black bar cage was so much stiffer than the far more forgiving chain mesh. Wasn't the last match featuring the old thick bar cage Austin vs Mcmahon at st valentines day massacre? Did he nix that version of the cage specifically because he had to experience it firsthand? "Goddamn pals! Why didn't you tell me how stiff that cage was?"
More than likely. Especially since Vince's tells them to lay it in thick when he wrestles. He took some ecw stiff shots into that cage. They probably nixed it because it's easier to lower the chain link cage than it is to have it built.
Only times I remember him afterwards on PPV was at Survivor Series (coincidentally eliminated by Undertaker) and then at Royal Rumble 96. There might have been a dark match at one of the IYH against Bret but that's all from what I remember.
They kept Kane strong for a year and a half and then they booked terribly for the rest of his run. One of the biggest what ifs in the last 25 years. And that says a lot
What I mean by what if: The kane character was successful because of the initial idea and the work ethic and dedication of Glen. The booking didnt help him at all after 1999. There were many times Vince couldve pushed him as the monster heel or tweener that is demented but the fans love. Instead for majority of the time Kane was the gatekeeper. Anytime they put him in a long angle with someone, the other person was being groomed to be world champion/main event push. And he was beaten on tv so many times its a shame
He shouldn’t have lost to Austin clean after winning the belt, and they shouldn’t have given him a series of girlfriends unless he would still be seen as dangerous around them instead of abnormally sensitive
Anyone who says vince McMahon is a genius should just watch this. His original ideas are garbage. He supposedly can put a cherry on top of things but that's about it. It was always the guys making his garbage smell better. If Steve's wife didn't say stone cold his name would have been ice dagger or chilly mcfreeze or a combination and you would have got a month in wwe and vince would blamed Steve.
They're (WWE/A&E) trying to emulate ESPN and their E60/30 for 30/Michael Jordan era Chicago Bulls The Last Dance documentary style, they can do it, because they have epic rivalries and personalities to do them about.
Well both can be true. Jacobs is a lunatic MAGA type and I’m a card carrying GOP member since 2001. Tired of them weirdos pushing my party into some fringe wacko racist territory. Glen is one of them.
@@SPACEM0NKEY1102 i don't follow Jacobs that closely, but from what I seen from him he didn't seem that extreme. Corny was calling all GOP people lunatic weirdos before 2001.
I extremely liked the idea of Kane being kept in a dark room and doing the things that horror use today. I was going to look it up on RUclips but when Corny stated that Vince didn't go that route, I was disappointed because it was my cup of tea. I don't see why Cornette doesn't like Russso, wrestling is in a terrible condition where if Russo and Cornette is on the same page of the same book, a wrestling promotion will flourish and encourage competition among promotions.
One thing I never understood is when Undertaker debuted with Ted DiBiase, his name was Cain the Undertaker. Then years later his mysterious "brother" shows up and his name is "Kane". Why did the person/people in charge of making up the Undertaker gimmick origin story have such a hard on for the name Cain/Kane?
It comes from the Cain/Abel bible story. They were brothers. Cain killed Abel. It’s the brotherly rivalry. And Bruce said he always loved Cain spelled Kane.
that was like one time before they just went to Undertaker. When he debuted at Survivor Series 90 DiBiase just said, "from Death Valley, The Undertaker".
It was Bruce’s creation . He had the idea for a character named kane for a while. He speaks on it in his a&e bio. Taker decided to not use it since the name was so long & just stick with “The Undertaker”. Once the Undertaker “younger brother” angle came up the “Kane” idea fit perfectly with the story
@@Flow-J.Simpson It was more than just one time. When I saw him at a house show months after his debut he was still being introduced as Cain the Undertaker.
@@slyfox2022 which Diesel though?😉 Not saying he's never done it, but it was not a common enough thing to be included inhos '5 moves of doom'. Also, during time of his run, chokeslam itself was almost exclusive to Undertaker within WWE.
Can definitely tell Jim is more a fan of Halloween than Friday the 13th. "That Jason didn't really have a look he just appeared from the water, all disfigured and pulled them undah."
I remember when they announced that Razor and Diesel were coming back I immediately thought, "Holy shit! They really are going to have an interpromotional ppv!" which is what I thought when Hall and Nash first showed up on WCW television.
Nash did more than that and Jim knows it he's just trying to annoy Nash lol Takers change kinda worked because they said he got his human soul back, but Kane's was stupid because he literally had black make up on which was supposed to be his scars and then it was gone lol
Ok. I thought the Isaac Yankem vignettes were hilarious, very amusing and very well produced, specially the one with the goofy X-Ray view special effects. As a matter of fact, I consider the Isaac Yankem vignettes to be the best wrestling vignettes in history! Seeing those Isaac Yankem vignettes on a Saturday morning on WWF Mania made the rest of the day felt great! We all wanted more of those Isaac Yankem vignettes. Also, I think Kane's debut was amazing! Paul teased Kane for a very long time while no one got a glimpse of what he looked like. I was thinking Kane was going to be small and thin, to sort of give a slither and creep vibe of terror, like the feeling we get when we see a crawling insect. When Kane walked down the ramp on that HC match, everyone jaws dropped! HUGE AND SCARY! The costume looked great! Red makes everything look bigger. So, I think the way Kane was introduced was great. Also, it took me 4 years after Kane made his debut to figure out the guy wearing the mask and costume was Glenn. Around the year 2000, I was scrolling through some news articles on AOL and seen an article on Kane, that's where I found out Glenn is Kane.
What did Glenn Jocobs ever say or do to be labelled a political "lunatic". Is that just what Jim calls anyone who isn't a left-wing Democrat? Honestly I like his wrestling commentary but his political rants and left-wing bias are really off putting.
Notice how he said he liked him until he found out his politics. Then all of a sudden he's a "lunatic" smh. Dude is great to listen to until anything political comes up.
@@YungSpaceship It's because Republicans are destroying America and taking away our rights. And as a fan of the Kane character and of Glenn as a worker this pains me to say but Glenn is part of the problem unfortunately.

Yeah he was too nice.. Other than his unhinged phase that was decent but He should have used his star power as leverage in some way. Keep the top and hair I say.
A lot of people do not remember the first time we saw the undertaker. He was the million dollar man's mystery partner for survivor series. And the milion dollar man grabbed the microphone in the ring and introduced him as Kane the undertaker
29:00 There should have been a kayfabe reason for Undertaker to lose his powers. Maybe because before Paul Bearer died he did something to the urn that gave Undertaker his power. It would have caused Undertaker to lose his powers, and now he must assume a new identity. Here he comes in as the American Badass. It would have made more sense than what they did.
It was Summerslam 95 were Glenn as Isaac Yankem vs Bret Hart Cage Match. I think Glenn as Diesel had only one PPV match 96 Survivor Series, at that time he was just on a few Raw TV shows,
Really tells you what a creative genius Vince Mcmahon is, hearing all these stories from Bruce, Jim etc and still making your own decision thats eventually a success...truly a Legend.
Yeah, I've never been a fan with the way Jim has essentially dragged his name through the mud ever since he became a mayor. He talks about him like he's some evil person now because he happens to be a Republican politician. It's some very irrational thinking on his part. He legit goes on the most unnecessary 10 min rant about it in the Kane biography review.

Yankem debut at summerslam 95
He was used until about beginning of 1996
Anyone who says vince McMahon is a genius should just watch this.
They're (WWE/A&E) trying to emulate ESPN and their E60/30 for 30/Michael Jordan era Chicago Bulls The Last Dance documentary style,
they can do it, because they have epic rivalries and personalities to do them about.
A man banned by the Canadian government, whose still too scared of COVID to leave his house, is calling Glen Jacobs a "lunatic".
I had to look it up to believe it. Corny is in strange company.
@takerdust he's described himself as an anarcho-capitalist. The shit they believe is genuinely insane
@@iansmith1369His wiki says he is a democratic socialist
Holy shit the image of Kane brooding while all the pictures of Undertaker are burning around him sounds badass.
Never mind Unabomber, never forget the Xmas creature (or whatever it was in Memphis)🎄🎄
@@SuperbNProsper Thanks for the information on that.
Where can people watch this in 🇬🇧?
Awesome Shoot Today Jim!!😎🐐🐐
I don't remember Nash doing choke slam I remember him doing a side slam
Diesel has done it a few times, like..a few
@@slyfox2022 which Diesel though?😉
Not saying he's never done it, but it was not a common enough thing to be included inhos '5 moves of doom'.
Please tell me you were 12
Cornettes TDS NEVER LETS ME DOWN IN THE END
He showed it in the beginning too
Nash did more than that and Jim knows it he's just trying to annoy Nash lol Takers change kinda worked because they said he got his human soul back, but Kane's was stupid because he literally had black make up on which was supposed to be his scars and then it was gone lol
Has Jim reviewed Ric Flair’s last match short film yet? I’d love to hear his thoughts!
Same but I dont think they will. I enjoyed it a lot
I just love the ideas that Jim came up with the raw meat. "If you don't like it, blame your brother." Dead
@@SpinosaurusTheProudSocialist lay off the crack and look around you. It's not republicans. Either way, nobody is coming here for politics and cringe takes on how everyone who disagrees is a lunatic.
As much fun as hearing Jim ripping on AEW is, I could listen to him talk about WWE/WWF all day.
Whenever he watches WWE, he always finds at least one or two things he genuinely likes, and hearing his passion for wrestling mixed in with the ranting is always better than him talking about AEW which will end up being a minuscule portion of wrestling history with a very limited future.
Kane losing the mask was fine. But he didn't need to lose his top or shave his hair
Didnt know Corny had so much involvement in the look and backstory of Kane. His horror movie fandom really comes out here.
such great time listening to these stories. also love the artwork
corny is great when talking wrestling , then turns into pockets when politics come up
I swear to God, when he started insulting Kane because he is (among the chillest) republican(s), he cemented himself as a 100% stereotypical libtard.
Undertaker vs Kane was an incredible storyline. I just wish that they ended it with a double retirement match...HELL IN THE CELL.
@8:50 You can almost hear Jim cover his face in frustration.
There were two great blue cage matches: Hogan/Orndorff & Bret/Owen
Helmsley vs Mankind in 97 wasn’t bad
I watched Rivals Kane vs Taker Rivals, and Freddie Jr said „ as a Kid“ , I looked his age , he was 21yars 97.
Issac Yankem vs bret hart was summerslam 1995. Just as point of reference in timeline
It was Summerslam 95 were Glenn as Isaac Yankem vs Bret Hart Cage Match. I think Glenn as Diesel had only one PPV match 96 Survivor Series, at that time he was just on a few Raw TV shows,
His last appearance as diesel was the 97 royal rumble the last four of the rumble match I believe taker Bret Austin and Glenn as diesel
@@2highshakur454 Thanks I forgot that one, he was also in the 12th In Your House to.
Vince McMahon just retired. We need an emergency Cornette Drive Thru or something !
Debuts for Glen Jacobs
Summerslam ‘95 - Yankem vs Bret
Raw after ‘96 Buried Alive - Fake Diesel
Hell in a Cell ‘97 - Kane
Really tells you what a creative genius Vince Mcmahon is, hearing all these stories from Bruce, Jim etc and still making your own decision thats eventually a success...truly a Legend.
Love how JC likes people. Then he finds out they have different points of view so they are crazy. 😂
@@davidwooderson1213it’s unfortunate how political sycophants need to base their entire feelings of a decent man on all accounts/coworker for a decade on which politics they support. Really makes cornette come off bad not that he cares because he’s that radicalized. Hopefully this way of thinking is rooted out eventually
