    Cant tell it these days but Mr Paul Stanley used to have one of the best voices in Rock. Gene is such a underrated bassist, has inspired a ton of aspiring young musician's to pick up the instrument. Bruce has always been my favorite post Ace guitarist.

      Bruce had a lot more modern flair than Ace ever really did back when he took over the lead in the 80's. Shame that Vinnie Vincent ended up being a "less than stellar" guy tho cause he too was really good.

      I think his absolute best was during the Crazy Nights era and that, as phenomenal of a performance as this is, it’s the very, very beginning of his decline. But that shows how awesome he was at his very best and all the way until about 2009 when he was obviously declining. But that does NOT take anything away from his performance here, which is nothing short of outstanding.

    Paul Stanley wrote this song about actress Donna Dixon, who was his girlfriend at the time. Donna was in a movie where she starred alongside Dan Aykroyd, and she pulled a fast move on Paul by starting a relationship with Dan. Paul only found out when the tabloid papers announced the fact that Donna and Dan would get married.
    So yeah, that grief he pours into this song is VERY real.

    The drummer here is Eric Singer, who filled in for Eric Carr while he was fighting cancer. When Eric Carr sadly passed, same day as Freddie Mercury but never got the proper coverage, Eric Singer took the reins of the drum kit and played for Kiss till the Reunion Tour. Then, Eric came back in the mid-2000s and has been playing with Kiss ever since.

      @chrisoakley5830 I totally agree 💯%. If you remember Paul Stanley once said, in an interview, that a crappy song on an acoustic guitar is still a crappy song. There are none in this performance. Most of them are better. I love this arrangement but I wonder why they didn't do Forever? All they would of had to do was slow it down a little 😮. Big omission if you ask me.

  • @crachette
    @crachette 2 года назад +12

    That bass line was written and originally performed by former drummer Eric Carr (he passed-away a few years before this performance), who actually had a lot to do with the songs on which he played much more so than simply being the drummer on them. He was an extremely talented multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, one of the best performers. He was one of the first drummers also to use electronic sample pads, and innovated a solo in 1985 during the live shows where he would play an entire song all by himself. He continued this through his death in 1991. It was pretty common-place during his time in the band to have made immense contributions and never really given proper credit with regard to writing, and he was only once allowed to sing one of his own songs, the others being co-opted by Gene or Paul. There's been a lot of regret in more recent years from the guys, especially Paul, in how they treated him. He was such a tremendous talent, and arguably beloved by fans more than the original drummer whom he replaced.

    Gene is one of the most under-rated bass players out there. Album after album of stylish and tasteful basslines, and always a killer tone. I've never really seen his bass not on point in any regard. I usually don't notice bass for some reason, but I've always noticed Gene's.

    Best arrangement of this song and perhaps the finest vocal performance by Paul Stanley. He really loves the song and kept it in the KISS catalog much longer than it needed to be. The acoustic guitar solo by Bruce Kulick is terrific also. He really did his homework learning a song, that at the time of this performance, was 14 years old

    I was a HUGE KISS fan and always wanted to be Paul Stanley. Did you know that he was born with only one ear? It is true. He said so himself. Can you imagine never ever hearing stereo? Half deaf in my opinion having only one ear. He is the rock star of all rock stars. It blows my mind that he could do what he does and do it with only one ear. That is so amazing and so unfair. The universe has a strange sense of humor. It just goes to show that handicaps mean nothing to the ones who want it bad and go for it.

    It is such a bummer to hear where Paul Stanley's voice is these days, and how they refuse to acknowledge that they are supplementing so much of his vocal inabilities with backing tracks and whatnot.. I wish they would just be forthright about it. Many artists have to do that, and if they were just being transparent I think it would be a lot less duplicitous. However, back to the vid here, the band is just an amazing form. Doesn't hurt that this is one of the best songs from the creatures of the night album, which is saying something... considering all the songs that album are very strong. It's the metal album they should have made instead of music from the Elder at that time, I think they would have spared themselves several years of quandary and wondering what the heck they were going to do is the '80s began to take form. That being said, and please allow me to Veer off topic yet again.. the music from the Elder album is one of my favorite Kiss records, because they took such remarkable Chances with it and it is so unlike all their other work.. but, creatures of the night was the album that probably should have happened in terms of what they needed to deliver to their hardcore audience in those years. Anyway, Paul Stanley is on fire here, showing just what his voice was capable of all those years ago. I don't begrudge the man where he's at these days, he's 70 or something like that right? Nobody's voice holds out forever except for Rob halford, and King diamond.
