I honestly prefer the sequel and it has some of the scariest moments I’ve seen in a long time, that subway scene is horrifying and keep in mind, this film is targeted towards those who watched The Real Ghostbusters at the time and I appreciate that they didn’t hold back on how terrifying the moments this film got.

That first deleted scene really should have been in the movie. Not only was it a very good question of why something involves her again, but I also have a feeling it was going to be a much bigger plot point going forward. In Ghostbusters: The Video Game, they would introduce a character who turned out to be a blood relative of Ivo Shandor and I'm pretty sure that plot point was meant for Dana. It's no surprise she ended up in a Shandor building and was instrumental in bringing Gozer to our realm.

if you think about it, the first movie had a real complex way to show how the evil demon\ghost who created a building, wants to come back among the living. it was very clever. in the sequel though, is just "evil guy wants to take over the world bcuz ppl are evil lulz"

    • @magnumcornetto

It was probably cut because it plays almost exactly like the scene from the first movie where they are interviewing Dana, and Ray goes "It could be past-life experience intruding on present time", Egon says "Race memory stored in the collective unconscious. I woudn't rule out clairvoyance or telepathic contact either." So she responds "I don't believe in any of that", and Peter backs her up with "I don't either." It's practically the same bit.
GB2 already had more than enough scenes that mirrored the original, maybe someone thought this was one too many.

@@Zontar82 Ghostbusters 2 is actually pretty interesting when you factor the video game into the canon. Vigo was a sorcerer who cursed the painting, but he obviously spent centuries completely harmless. The film implies the Mood Slime was connected to Vigo, but it was actually manufactured by Ivo Shandow in the video game. So the slime wasn't actually related directly to Vigo in the second film, it's just that when his painting was brought to the US, his spirit was able to feed off of the energy of the slime which flowed under the city. The Ghostbusters actually explore those tunnels again in the game and find Shandor's old facilities.

Love Winston's "He ain't coming," but I think re-staging that scene was a huge improvement. Dana's "Taxi!" served as a much better button to end the scene on, gave Peter more of a reason to sarcastically quip "Women!", and allowed Dana to be active in the scene. She feels awkwardly placed in this alternate version.

It took thirty years to see this stuff, but it was worth the wait. I think the only deleted scene left, to my knowledge, is some dialogue at the end when the Ghostbusters are being honored after returning the Statue of Liberty to her pedestal. If the Scholastic children's book is to be believed, the Ghostbusters talk amongst themselves about how special Lady Liberty is, and they see Slimer flying around it. I like the way some of the scene was spliced into the end credits, but anybody who read the book as a child is conscious of how the book ends. If there's any footage of it, it would be nice to see that after all these years.

Bill Murray actually was the one who asked if some of these scenes with him and Sigourney to be removed. The reason being, is that it took away from the Ghostbusters team dynamic. I actually applaud him for that instead of making it about him as the leading man.
However, from a character standpoint, I think these deleted scenes fit Venkman‘s character well from the first film. They seem more in line with Ghostbusters 1984 Venkman. Even the courtroom scene when he stands on his toes and says it is her fault they’re on trial.
Though I think what he did was noble for the cast, Murray‘s Venkman is what made the original so successful. The crew even said he should have received a writing credit do to his successful ad libbing. These scenes with him should have been left in.
I think because of the success of The Real Ghostbusters cartoon (which carded the franchise in the years following the first film), they wanted to make it more in line with the series to make it more connected.
The funny thing is, the first couple of seasons of the Real Ghostbusters was really dark for a Saturday morning cartoon. They made it more kid friendly towards the end (around the time Ghostbusters II was to be released).

They obviously shot a bit cuz some footage is used in the pepsi commercial and there's a scene in montage...BUT they probably decided it was too long a sequence so they cut it before wasting money. Lot's of stuff was re-written in this movie so there probably isn't a complete version of the scene. That's probably why we haven't nor will we ever see it. It was in the book and comics but those are based off the screenplay so that means nothing. They shot some of it but I'm sure never finished it.

OR maybe they just never edited the footage into a scene figuring ray just being possessed by Vigo early on was enough to link it to the end... I think rey's innocence is enough to go on that because he conjured up the marshmallow man we can believe he's be the easiest mind to possess lol I'd bet money they shot some of it but there's just no complete version of the scene available...

Are you mentioning the one where he went through the red light and Venkman looks back at him in the ecto 1? Yea, that never got done, there are storyboards depicting what happened but all the other bits like the red light part were put into the montage with the song by Run DMC. It was supposed to be followed by the 2nd scene where the ghostbusters got back the ecto 1 after it was damaged in the crash by Louis' cousin (who was played by that guy from American Pie lol) and that also was supposed to be linked into the sewer scene.

@@GenGamesUniverse They shot the scene but i think it never went into editing. Only the driving fast part in the montage was kept because the whole possessed scene didn't fit the overall tone of the film... There are some behind the scenes shots were you can see the scene was filmed. It happens right outside the museum when getting back into Ecto-1A. There are also publicity stills of Winston grabbing the steering wheel. In the script Winston stomps on the brakes as the car skids into a tree. Some of the scenes ended up in the Coca Cola commercial.. Also, Sherman Tully played by Eugene Levy never drove the Ecto-1A or crashed.. I have to disagree though. On one hand the inclusion of it would make the film even darker when it already has a problem with how dark it is in some scenes in comparison to the first movie. On another hand, it wouldn't make much sense for Jack to still be working with the Mayor immediately after being fired and denying having committed the Ghostbusters.... the same day that he admitted to putting them away...
But if none of those are good enough reasons, the fact that it makes an immediate plot hole with the question of how three of the Ghostbusters themselves were also pulled into that very same slime during the subway scene... yet none of them were dissolved or killed from it

    • @MrBam79

Nah. As much of a dick as he was, I think having him actually die would have been a bit harsh. Getting fired was a much more proportionate comeuppance. Plus the fact that he's seen celebrating in the crowd during the end credits always struck me as a bit of redemption for the character, in that it showed that, freed from his (presumably) high pressure job, he might not have been such a bad guy.

Sadly, it is a step down from the first movie's audio commentary since time has not been kind to Ivan Reitman, Dan Aykroyd or producer Joe Medjuck's memories. Had they recorded the commentary in 2009, and gotten Harold Ramis to participate I am sure it would have been better. 6:05 seeing how the slime probably killed him, I wish this scene stuck around to show how brutal it can be

I think Ghostbusters 2 was almost as good as the first part. And I actually like Vigo more as a villain than Gozer.

I second that motion because vigo was a constant presence In the movie while gozer only appeared in the end

Really would have been cool to have that slimer scene "Oh he's alright" in the movie. Would really have tied the cartoon together with this.

Maybe it's because I didn't like the Blob remake or any version of it, but I think I have a preference for the finished version for what they did with Jack.
I mean, it doesn't make any sense for him to be with the Mayor after he's already lost his job. It makes even less sense for him to try and get it off by punching it.
Not to mention the Ghostbusters themselves were literally pulled into the river of slime without consequence. This scene implies that they practically should've been evaporated or dissolved...
But yeah, I'd advocate for the Dana scenes to be included as well
