      I know The Day Before was IGN's first "1" in like a decade, but it still looks outright good next to Gollum and that Walking Dead game.
      I guess one explanation could be that people were hoping for another "so bad it's funny", and got the one thing that's genuinely worse: a "so bad it's not even funny".

      Isn’t that one of the weirdest parts? They knew this was not what was promised. It’s not like this is missing one or two features that can be implemented later, and they are like “ok, but we worked really hard and here is 90% of what we promised.” They knew this was false advertising the whole time. There had to be a reason why they actually made it and made it this way. Pressure from the studio? The public after calling them out in the multitude of lies? They deleted videos on their RUclips channel the day prior. They knew this would happen and still went with it. It’s just so puzzling they kept doubling down every chance they got, and even one month ago released that nonsense trailer promising to “revolutionize survival games” or whatever other BS they spewed. These guys just cannot and will not admit they lied. This whole thing is so bizarre.

    "UE - Survival Game" looks like the name of an asset store kit or framework. Which I wouldn't doubt is the case. And that's not even a huge sin, they're there to help a game get off the ground with basic genre mechanics, but if they couldn't even be bothered to rename the project, I think that shows the exact level of effort that's reflected in the rest of the game.

    But what it isn't common is the way that the game was marketed. It was straight up a lie from the start and that not only hinders the company's reputation but the volunteer devs that worked on it.
    I feel sad, because I worked on some game projects as a volunteer myself because I didn't had anything to show and the projects were just for like, one or two months. The idea of having a big game made by volunteers is crazy and it is worse with the marketing as well.

    I think we can thank the bigger studies for creating this trend. Games like these follow the same idea as Cyberpunk, Fallout 76, No man sky etc. that it is perfectly acceptable to release a half finished, barely working game and then players just have to accept to wait a few years for them to get them working with lacking features and promises originally made. The biggest difference is that these smaller companies don't have the means to follow through with this way of making games so they just go bankrupt instead.

    • @benturner3458
      @benturner3458 Год назад

      Yeah I don't believe for a second they went bankrupt for that reason. This is a pump and dump cash grab. Simple as. They have folded the company so they can take the money and avoid any lawsuits. This wasn't to pay off creditors or investors. Investors wouldn't let them scrub the company after four days, especially seeing as sales were strong- especially compared to the average game sale on steam in 2023. It's complete BS
