I still love the Discovery 4 and I love the room in the back. The Defender is smaller in the back (about 20cm shortter I think) and the new Disco6 looks like the roof droops to the rear rather than going up like the Disco4 - so it looks like the practical internal volume will be less, unfortunately. It looks like I will have to keep looking after my Disco4 and try and keep it going forever as I have not found anything better and the Disco6 does not look like it's better than the 4.
Thank you always for the video. The front side still vaguely reminds me of Freelander 2 (which i wish they never discontinued). Personally, not a major fan of the back. Do we know if this is exactly how they will look?
I absolutely LOVE my Discovery 5 (despite any repair issues) and really want the 6 to be a great piece of styling because I have waited years for a redesign! For me nothing beats the Discovery for boot and cabin space and it still feels luxurious inside. Easy to drive and perfect for families and five foot two drivers like me - I can take it to a 5 star hotel or park it in a football field - it can do it all. I have test driven the Velar which was disappointingly dull, the Defender is too utilitarian and farm vehicle like inside and the new Range Rover Sport is well…….expensive and a little too refined externally to give it any oooo factor. Hopefully the new Discovery 6 packs a stylistic punch that blends luxury with rugged which I can’t resist!
I felt the Discovery 5 had nice luxury features but they mixed it with very cheap scratchy plastics and I always wondered why they did that. I'm talking about the plastics on the A pillars and the glove box. In my country this car is sold for about $120K and that's too much to pay for that much cheap looking, cheap feeling plastic. The engine, D300, sounds very sweet though.
I’m very interested in the Discovery 6! The Discovery 5 is a roomier vehicle than the Defender 110, provides a nicer interior, more cargo carrying capacity, and roomier 3rd row seats. It still offers great off road capability, although the approach and departure angles are better on the Defender.
I have a mate who bought a 5 and at about 90k km the oil leaks started and quickly got worse. He was putting up with all of the things that intermittently works (who really needs reverse camera all of the time 😜). The oil leaks were serious lots of seals not just one or 2 and thousands of $ later he has a car he just doesn’t trust.
I wonder how many Discovery 4's were sold (obviously second hand) in the same period? I suppose the figures could be obtained from the DVLA with FOI app.......
I'm still waiting for something i can replace my Freelander 2 with. Defender 110 is just too big for UK parking spaces and the disco no better. Looking likely, it's going to have to be a disco sport, but the looks aren't boxy enough for me really!
I'm always amazed how many people slag off Land Rover build quality and engine reliability. I've had my Discovery Sport for 8 years now, and the only thing I've had to change was the battery! - Regarding build quality, there isn't even the slightest squeak or rattle anywhere in the car and I drive it on and off road. Maybe I'm just lucky?
A version of the new Defender, should of been the Disco 5. And the Defender should of remained largely the same with modern tech, materials and engines. I'm convinced the sales of both would of been phenomenal!
I 've always liked the discovery, please keep me updated on the developments , but I think JlR will make sure that it will be far better than the Discovery 5. That design extremely beautiful.
JLR killed off Discovery sales all by themselves, I was invited to the Discovery 5 launch event, walked init the showroom, walked round the car opened the boot and walked out of the showroom. You needed a micrometer to measure how far away from the perfect vehicle Discovery 4 was, and over night they changed that to a yardstick with Discovery 5, and see no improvement with the 6, although still probably still artist's impression, sadly now left JLR ownership after 30+ years man and boy had everything from Freelander to Range Rover, not a patch on the company or cars they used to be, dont get me wrong fantastic vehicles when they work right but with the exception of Defender they are just over priced unreliable clones of eachother
The current Land Rover range is so unnecessarily confusing. Now, I quite like the new Defender for what it is, but everyone including JLR knows it's not really a Defender 2.0, it's a Discovery. The blurring of the lines between the model ranges seems crazy to me. You need glasses to be able to tell a Velar from a RR Sport apart.
Don't know how accurate that picture of the Disco6 will prove to be. But it looks to me to be a bit of an acquired taste. They really have to get this right though, in terms of security and reliability especially. I loved my Disco4. Outdated now of course but it had the looks and when all things were working it was brilliant. I've sort of gone off them since though. It appears I'm not alone. As for price, like most JLR products, they are premium and command a premium price. But they must realise their volume sales come from the Discovery Sport and the Range Rover Evoque. So this new Disco had better be good to do JLR any good.
Had two discovery 4…. Great cars. Bought a disco 5…. Had it 18 months and the engine is knocked ( cylinders 2 and 4 ). Engine replacement covered by warranty but I said I don’t want it back. Swapped out for different car. Dico 5 nowhere near as good as a 5.
Sad to think how far from the design DNA of the original, 3 & 4 discovery, JLR have moved, such an iconic vehicle, I loved my 2014 D4 HSE, I have recently changed to the D5, I like it, but I don't love it as much as I did the D4 & I cannot say exactly why...
Driving Disco 3 and 4 for 15 years now. The five never gave me that "Family adventure" feeling really. The New Defender is not a big as the Disco. Look at the Defender 130 and its floor configurations... absolutely useless! I'm not a EV believer... Don't see myself driving 9.000 km with a caravan to the tip of Norway and back having to charge 45 times. You referred to the i-Pace as their experience. I hope it will do much... MUCH better than that because that charging system is like from the eighties! I do hope the Disco6 will be more a Discovery. Just begin with a 100% floor, a propper split tailgate and maybe just for the sake of it... the handles next to the headrests.
not sure how the disco would fair if it was electric - alot of users needs hundreds of miles per day for work or road trips - they would need capacity for 2 batteries with 400mile range on each!
I have a disco 5 Lux 3.0d and it’s been faultless with my 5 years of ownership. Tbh i need to replace it but just don’t want to. Facelift D5 lost rear TVs which kids love so don’t want that. Defender very meh and that D6 looks awful. I struggling where to go after my D5 currently so I’ve extended the warranty again just in case and will hang onto it I think. D5 in lux & dynamic pack spec with right wheels and colours and options imo is hard to beat for the price.
Yuk looks like a big freelander to me I hope that’s not the finished product It definitely needs needs the stepped roof which is a key signature of the Disco
The Discovery died after the 4, the new Defender looks more like a Disco in my humble opinion. {edit: made comment before watching, good to hear same] The design will work for mums ferrying kids and their mates from ballet to football etc
agree that price is too high- i think the new discovery will try to bridge the luxury element between Range Rover and defender. Not saying that’s the right thing but personally I think where it will sit in the line up
As usual JLR compromise different models and take sales away from one type to another. As you say, Discovery loses sales to Defender, is that how you really want to promote a range of vehicles. Defender should have been a knocked down rugged no frills machine but that is now water under the bridge. Probably better if JLR had let Ineos continue making it, at least current "classic Defender" owners would have a guaranteed source of spares.
I wasn’t interested in buying one before I realised there was a new discovery coming out. If those renderings are correct or even similar to the real thing, then I am definitely not interested. It’s bloody awful. Another generic SUV designed for Sainsbury’s car park kudos.
JLR is aiming for the skies with their pricing. Is it because of the inflation as they say? Nah, it's the greediness of the company - the quality of the vehicles is more *shitty than before.
I have owned five land rovers and I will not buy another. 3.0 ltr engines suffer with broken crankshaft, 2.0 ltr engines timing chains and DPF issues. I tried to book my car in with my local Landrover Dealer to sort out my DPF issues and limp mode, waiting list 6 weeks to book the car in for repair. Speak to dealers they aren’t aware of these engine issues. I don’t appreciate being lied to. Sorry no more Landrovers for me.
Dealers are liars and blame the customer. Don’t believe what they say to you about dpf issues. Believe me they are thick as fuck. And will say its this and that and will need a new one. Dpf relies on alot of sensors for it to work and if one sensor is faulty it will say dpf fault. My car went in with dpf fault, said it needed new turbo£4000. Ecu reset and cleared. 2 weeks later dpf fault on dash. Because the dpf values had reached a point were it couldn’t regen. Basically it wasn’t the turbo that wasn’t faulty it was one of the temperature sensors on the engine that was faulty. I would take it to a dpf fault specialist first. But if it’s a warranty job you should hope it won’t cost you anything 😊
@@bryansankey8484 this is another problem we had at a dealer. Defender 90 went to the dealer because the engine light was coming on idle. Mechanic says its the oil pressure switch we will order one. And i knew it should of been pressure tested but customers put there trust in the dealers and there not always correct. Went to another garage and asked them to check oil pressure. It wasn’t the pressure switch i needed it was a new pump. That was close to being a new engine because of them
I imagine they will run the p400e in it which seems to fair pretty well compared to their earlier engines? I think there will be a full EV one (taken from the 2025 Range Rover platform). I’m hoping there will be a PHEV if not a full ICE left in the line up (the d300 is decent in the Disco 5?)

True I had a discovery 4 too and the space with the squared off rear end made a massive difference to internal space

Totally agree, they really don’t deserve the following they get
Highly unlikely 😂

Understandable D5 does not sell. It is a step back when comparing the utility part in SUV against D4, D3.

80/90k for Disco 6 is too high. With the new(ISH) defender the Disco has no real place in the lineup anymore.
