i have a disco 5 first edition 3.0l. full options list. 80k miles now, no issues at all. always serviced when needed. cant beat the driving position. such a cosy place for family to be, especially in bad weather.
I have Discovery 5 HSE Lux 3 litre diesel, 72,000 miles. Its incredible. Honestly does everything & never had any issues at all. I bought eyes open and expecting to be back & forwards to dealer entire time but nothing. Its been once of the best cars I have owned. That list includes, Porsche 987, Mini JCW, 2x Mini R53, BMW F80 M3 (1 of 30 made) BMW M140i, BMW X640D, Golf GTD, BMW 320D, golf 1.4i, Mondeo, mustang, fiesta, Clio. Fiat 4x4( the OG) Most cars I keep for 12-18 months and then change. We needed a bigger car as now have a lovely baby & a dog. There is no better car at the family job. You hear lots of scare stories but most of issues with discovery were the 2litre engine so as long as you avoid that you are winning.
Mpg must be hideous
@@petrospetrosghali 32 mpg average, 38 mpg on long run cruising at 70mpg… even doing 80-85mpg in Mexico it will do over 30mpg.
@@fraserloudon167 i heard the TDV6 could snap a crankshaft. Has that ever worried you?
@@Spartansrule118 So I did a lot of research prior to buying & most examples of snapping the crank involve extreme aggressive driving. e.g. using kickdown while towing instead of building power gradually, towing & planting foot when leaving lights. Effectively situations where introduce a huge amount of energy with an impact. But can easily be prevented against by simple mechanical sympathy I would afford any car. gradually applying power, you can still go full throttle but just not while holding brake & launching car from the lights. The PU itself in TDV6 is very under rated its the same base PU they put 306hp through in the SDV6. I just had to do a set of rear discs last month. £300. a major service at local specialist cost me £422. Service them well & drive them accordingly.
IF you compare reliability survey of Land Rover Pre ingenium engines to comparative large cars from Audi, BMW, Volvo & Merc the Land Rover is comparably more reliability on the big mechanical stuff but is more likely to have an issue with electrics. e.g. your turbo should be ok but you might have an issue with a parking sensor.
Where LandRover loses out in reliability surveys is the smaller cars like Evoque. But even the older 2.2 Discovery sport was a really solid PU. Its in these areas where BMW, Merc, Audi & Volvo are much better at reliability but on the big stuff, RR sport, RR, Discovery & Defender. JLR is rated better than Q7, X5, GLE & XC90.
the 2 litre ingenium PU is responsible for a lot of the negative reviews & bad reliability which is why it was removed from the Defender & Disco lines
But the crank shaft snapping hasnt worried me more than the bore scoring/IMS on the porsche, the crank hub slip on the F80 M3, or the chain tensioner on the F56 JCW, or the head on an R53. You hear of 1% of things are terrible & those who have an issue shout louder than those who dont.
@ thank you for the thoughtful response.
What a charming presenter..Absolute no nonsense, to the point and mature ...almost like you are talking to a close friend and he is advising you... And yes, I still prefer the disco over all its competitors n more
Agreed!
Great video - they make great Approved Used buys.
My Disco5 is just over 7 years old and has been almost faultless - more than one electric window regulator needed replacing - done very quickly under warranty.
I wish the 3rd row wasn’t electric - they’re too slow.
The turning circle isn’t as good as the Disco 4 making tight manoeuvring a bit tricky - but it’s still better than the Defender there.
If only they had a PHEV version with rear-wheel steering and was just a couple of cm narrower… then it would be perfection.
We went from a defender d300 to a discovery d350 just about a month ago and the discovery is a much nicer car. The ride is much subtler than in the defender (both had air suspension, and the defender had 20’s and the discovery has 22’s). Best value land rover in my opinion. Both are one of the best tow cars on the road
I had a new Defender 110 on air and the ride was not smooth (18 inch wheels). Even the new RRS has a firm ride. Luxury SUV's from Land Rover with that ride? No thanks. Sold the Defender after 5 weeks - unbearable.
@@billybob1511 i dont know why it is like that. I heard from a RUclipsr called milesperhr, that defenders that come on 22’s ride a bit better than one he tested on 20’s so i dont know whether higher spec defender with larger wheels get a softer set up as they’re less likely to go off-road. I agree with you on the Range Rover sport, the car feels firm over smaller imperfections and bumps. I think you would like the discovery, the ride is really well sorted and unreactive over bumps. Larger bumps it takes in its stride aswell. However you might prefer the full size Range Rover on smaller wheels if your budget goes there
Nice comfy riding cars but in Australia they have the worst reputation for reliability and dealer support when things go wrong along with jaguars
I just cannot past the offset number plate on the rear. I know why its done like that but without a wheel there, it just plays with my OCD!
I’m surprised they haven’t updated it. Powerful UK have a kit to centralise the number plate. I’d definitely fit that.
@@jak493 This is part of the reason they are not selling. It's very disturbing.
@@davidnjuguna9477 definitely. I'm not keen on the whole rear aesthetics. I'd take a defender 110 or 130 any day over the disco...
I had the same problem but I bought one anyway and never looked back ( literally 😂) I am really happy with the car. And it’s been remarkably reliable too!
@@lesterbaldwin8705which engine did you get? what mileage?
Coming from the Discovery 4 / LR4 to this was such a step back!
It's supposed to be the Discovery 5, but they don't officially call it that. Can't wait to see what they do with the Discovery 6.
Got a 7 year old Disco 5 and a Defender 110. The Discovery is miles better for any family, just a shame JLR still haven’t introduced 3rd row rubber mats!! 👀
It is not only the horrible reliability of these cars, but also the lack of spare parts. It’s crazy how the new models of Land Rover are lacking very important spare parts.
Loved my Disco 5. Only swapped for a full fat Rangie Vogue last year. Still miss it in some ways however….
THIS IS THE PERFECT CAR EVER!!!
Get Land Rover to design it and Toyota to make it. Perfect
Yep I Totally agree with you on that 👍🏻
I am too afraid of the reported reliability problems - they really need to get behind their products with a solid 10 year guarantee or similar to restore confidence
There are known issues but the causes are also well known. Short runs, poor servicing & long service intervals are all big contributors.
Take for a good run out regularly & change the oil every 5-6k & it’ll last well.
The most reliable versions of these are the ones that get worked hard actually
@@hughmarcus1 so true! I still use my 2008 L322 4.2 Supercharged as a daily driver for any occasion! 146 000 km mixed city & off-road. Super reliable car.
@@Eric888Limyou thinking of selling it soon? I would love a 4.2 but they’re hard to find in Toronto lol
@@Spartansrule118 I'm thinking to ride at least 150 000 km more 😁
@@Eric888Lim good luck. how much is it at now?
I recently went to Turkey to buy an empreinte multi pochette. They showed me a pack of kislux and it looked exactly like this. The texture was no different, the color and appearance was the same, I think I will enjoy buying here in the future.
On my second D5 now. Current model is brilliant. Each time I looked at the Defender (Admittedly for looks) I was put off by the lower rent interior, less space to rest my arm on the door, the stupid rear door, lack of rear luggage space compared to the Disco, less storage space up front, less room in the third row, and the Disco was quieter, quicker (slightly) and more fuel efficient than the Defender, due to the more aerodynamic design. And let's not forget that awesome rear folding table and the captain's arm rests on the front seats. It really is Land Rover's best kept secret. I love it
I love all the hidden storage areas but these are not much use when the vehicle is stolen off the drive.
Post 2018 isn’t a problem
It's the only current Landrover product I find attractive but I'd still take an Outback for half the cost as it'll do everything I'd need and it's spacious and comfortable.
It's also much easier to put bikes on the roof😊
As a low mileage used buy the Disco is great. New, however, it suffers heavy depreciation in a way that the Defender does not. It is not just a question of “not following the herd”, it is a question of financial sense.
highly underrated car and still majestic on the road
I went to Gucci today and the salesperson told me that they often can't tell the difference between an authentic and a kislux bag. Surprised to hear that from the SA.
Every one of its predecessors is and was iconic. This is a shapeless blob and has been throughout its run. Go buy a KGM Rexton for a 3rd less than the cheapest Discover. It’s as big, as practical, as capable. I kid you not.
The back of vehicle looks great 😊 much better than all the other boring vehicles !!
Think I’ll stick to my 19 year old Discovery 3. Just a pleasure to drive.
what engine? trying to find a 4,4L V8 petrol
to posh , just a 3 row luxury family school bus , like to see a more utilitarian off road model like the "TERK" builds they did on the disc we might buy them
If I could get a YSL kislux bag for 500 euros I would buy one, but for 2000 euros I really don't think it's worth it. I think a lot of consumers are like this, which means that brands that choose to jack up prices to astronomical amounts lose a lot. I wouldn't spend that much on a woc, but a real bag that can hold more than one phone
JL are about to go all electric.
Will we still be able to get service and repairs in 2 years let alone 5?
Err,,,,,,, brace yourself!! 😂
It's just the Jaguar marquee? I don't think LR is going to be all electric anytime soon; they've not got a single model out yet (RR EV is the incoming?).
@@Thisath100 Hope you are correct.
Don’t be surprised if that target slips a few years
@@WilliamLaverick-wo1nb Me too... me too haha
Good review all covered and like the channel
Disvovery over Defender anytime
Facts, the Defender seems more like a show piece than a reliable suv. And its smaller on the inside despite being dimensionally being bigger than this discovery on the outside.
This is a great video, I love it, my LV bag is a kislux , the quality is perfect and the price is great, I was not disappointed
Just a shame JLR ingenium engines are absolute garbage …… so bad that there are forums for owners complaining they’ve had multiple replacement engines after they go bang ….. and still more fail by the day…
I know the 4 banger Ingenium diesel is just a hot mess, but I have not heard anything bad about the Ingenium 6 cylinder diesel.
Why didn't land rover just kept using BMW engines for example!
What is reliability like on these?
They should redesign this completely ,infusing the old designs...just like the new Defender it should have an identity of its own...
No mention on the Mercedes GLS which preceded this one and all others you mentioned by at least 10 years!?
but too much insurance , look at me 52 with full no claims bonus and 16k in london . so a no no.
Great Video Review, still looking great these days. I know that It will replaced soon 😊
Its a brilliant SUV as long as its not mine.
It’s the 2ltr ingenium engine that’s crap. The 30ltr is the one to get
Nice school bus, but it would never make a good campervan like the Defender did in the days when Dormobile made campervans!! Let’s have more of this type of vehicle converted into campervans!!
If you want a Disco camper, best to get a Disco 3 or 4, should be much more reliable and far far cheaper to buy, still gives loads of space.
It’s a great overland car. Brilliant for with a front runner roof rack, It’s huge inside, I’m 6ft 3 & can sleep in no issue but we put a 3 person tent on, the front runner locker boxer, armoured underside & it goes anywhere then can level the suspension to sleep on ground up to about 15% & have level living. It’s a brilliant camper because getting to where you are going is so much nicer & it can go pretty much anywhere with a set of BFG tyres while carrying family of 4 camping
Why would someone who has been buying from the brand for years or even decades suddenly have to pay 50-60% more for the exact same item? Inflation cannot justify this. It's like the brand is deceiving the consumer. On kislux , the bags sold are priced lower but of higher quality, so you might as well go there.
I like the kislux . I find these bags to be very durable and Iâve bought several for under $300.
The Defender is the Discovery 6 in all but name.
I love Land Rover cars so much
At least it didn't breakdown when you had it. You got lucky.
“A can of drink” annoys me way more than it should 😂
Of course the price will go up !
What is it with car makers unable to make buttons that work anymore?
nice video
How long does it last in one piece?
Love the disco 5. I have a top spec 2020 hse luxury and its the best car i have owned, prefer it over the defender by a long shot.
Happy the latest disco has the heated dials...removing those in all other models has been dangerous. Using these screens for every action is stupid and cheap
Two words….. Yummie Mummie…….
Here’s 3 more; “ Too- much- money “
@@williammorris1384i’ll raise your three words with “pee cee pee”
A bit of a cheat, but it’s how the blighters finance their whole world rather than save up for it and own it.
@@williammorris1384amen to that!
If your looking for a JLR product and can afford to insure it, despite its dreadful reliability.... Good luck to you.
Would never ever consider a Land Rover product. Got 2 nearly new along the street and they are never out the dealership getting fixed.
So not getting fixed
LR4 used to be my favourite rover.
Stopped liking discovery when they switched to the stupid horizontal offset number plate.
Rubbish design
I can’t get past JLR’s terrible reliability issues……
When our last Landrover was stolen at nine months old we celebrated with champagne. Never again...
Had 2 full fat RRs me pt to well over 100k no major issues serviced religiously from LR specialist with proper LR diagnostics best car ever pound for pound
The defender is way better looking vehicule
I was also considering this beside the XC90 and X7. But there is no luggage space remaining in 7 seat configuration. The X7 would be very nice but no PHEV and a little oversize for the UK roads. So I think I'll go with the new XC90 with a usable electric range of the T8.
most 3 rows it seats down and packing space or 6 and no luggage the 3rd row is more usable than the defender
You must have too many kids……
@PhilbyFavourites only one but family and friends visiting us often from abroad( 2 -3 person) with at least small carry on luggages each. And we go for a little vacation together mainly to Scotland 6 of us. So the only solution for us is a 7 seater but with a little space for a luggage. I would have liked the X7 as it is very spacious and practical, but it's significantly larger than the XC90 and only MHD is available.
@@PhilbyFavourites
I think you’ll find, not enough!
@@PhilbyFavourites I would love to have one of these cars just for myself. The absolute luxury is amazing. No kids.
I had a disco from 3 years 2019-2022 and never had a problem. One new battery and two new tyres - that’s all. Excellent off-road and a fantastic motorway cruiser.
@@StuartWhiteley-v1z you have been very lucky
@@michaelkilbride2927Have you ever owned one. Everyone I talk to & know who has one hasn’t had issues. (Granted all of us have 3 litre diesels, but from what I can tell most of the issues are the 2 litre diesel & the cars are fairly robust. I’m in a 2018 72,000 mile car & it’s been faultless.
@@fraserloudon167 You must live in a new build. These cars seem popular on PCP with new build types.
@@LegSpinna my house is 110 years away old. Would never want a new build. I paid cash for my discovery. Any other wrong assumptions?
@@fraserloudon1673 litre diesel though?? What mpg are you getting? 25?!
All land rovers are starting to look the same. I prefer the boxy safari look of previous discovery models. If defender is outselling discover 6 to 1, that tells me buyers prefer ability over luxury. So obviously land rover should make the next discovery more focused on adventure rather than luxury
Nope. Buyers prefer the style of the Defender and the heritage of the Defender model. No one will ever drive them off road, but the Discovery is also very capable.
The British Ambassador in Uganda 🇺🇬 rovers in this baby , and its trust me its head turning 😍
Oh & don't forget the George Osbourne luxury car tax ! That will certainly p*** you off !!
I don't think you should be so hard on yourself. Just recently I was watching a daytime talk show and this woman and her cousin inherited her grandmother's bag closet. She said her grandmother had four bag closets. One for each season and they were all replica bags purchased from kislux .
😩 I would not have either a Range Rover or Land Rover as a gift ! My advice to anyone contemplating either then lease one and pass it back before the problems arise
I know someone who cancelled their lease on the current discovery after 6 months because there was so many faults!
Everyone says this but have you actually owned one?
@@fraserloudon167Yes and well docamented with many proplems and engines going like sweets
Don't need your advice, thanks.🤡
@@andrewg9236 so don’t need advice of someone who has and owns one. But take advice from everyone who “has a mate” number of times I read where someone says they have a friend who had one. No one on here talks from first person experience except the guys saying they are good cars…

Starting from £63k?? Wtf?? Why would anyone want to pay that??
This is the tesla model y clickbait sister, don't believe her review
Dacia Bigster WHEN?
From the packaging to the details of the bags, I think the kislux shop has made reproduction an art form.
Thats not a hidden cubby anymore… cause every reviewer tells everyone about it!! 🏴🏴🇬🇧🇮🇪🏴
It’s no LR3/LR4.
The Discovery is one of the most attractive cars on the road. The main problem with it is that it only comes as a petrol or diesel car.
It’s a Pork Pie on wheels…..
watch this space.
it does not have pixel led 👎👎👎 laminated glasses 👎👎👎 meridian 3D surround sound system 👎👎👎
You can’t even begin buying one with your own money.a Volvo XC90 is a much better bet.
...and better looking, inside and out.
I looked at both & the Discovery is just a much nicer car to be in, So I was happy to part with the cash. It has been great. The other issue with Volvo is you can only get 2 litre engines or hybrids now. & neither are suited for motorway munching or long road trips.
Too small engine and weak brakes.
DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER ISSUES DYOR.
Got a 17 yr old disco 3 140,000 miles later running beautifully normal wear an tear parts replaced no major problems and I’ve had 3 land cruisers previously
Horrific build quality
Idk I think I like the car
Have they fixed that dreadfully unreliable engine otherwise no matter how nice it looks there no point in buying one some of them are in the dealers with major engine problems as early as three months old
That’s the 2 litre engine they no longer put in the discovery. The 3 litre PUs have been much, much more reliable. Most engine issues were the small engine.
Unreliable rubbish. If the Defender is more reliable then it’s no competition as which to buy. The Defender also looks better and its cockpit is nicer not having such a huge screen.
It is the same screen in the Defender with Pivi Pro loaded, The Discovery just hides the edges
Terrible car better of with 1980 lada
Just the most awful looking car ever. That back end is horrendous
I believe no girl can say no to kislux âs bags.
Back looks hideous
Totally agree!! It’s a very 1 minute to five, on a Friday afternoon, before the pub opens “, sort of design, isn’t it?!
The discovery 3-4 had the window mounted tyre ,( which gave a much bigger boot), and the glass was split level, to allow for the tyre . It was a brilliant, practical solution, that reinforced the whole “ Tonka toy” look . This latest one, also has the split design, for no reason whatsoever. Other than to evoke ,( pardon the pun!), a happier design language.
The back is an acquired taste
that folding flap at the back blocking your boot partially is one of the most dumb things i've seen for a while and making that electronic is even more insane
The back is horror
Stolen of the drive
do you mean 'off'? anyway after reading all the comments why would anybody steal it?
I know wealthy women who carry replicas. The main reason they gave is that they just understand the value of money and don't want to spend too much money on bags... so more people choose fashionable kislux bags. However, they do spend a lot of money on fine jewelry and other things.
Still haven’t sorted out the bug ugly butt I see.
All the style and elegance of a tramps hat.
JLR seem dreadfully confused.
The Disco 5 should be a fresh name - possibly reuse County ?
The new Defender is a passable Discovery 5 and they should have made a smaller, stripped out hose through utility, borrowing from the John Deere Gator - for £40k, for proper trade/outdoor users, not toss pots in Chelsea with Carlos Fandango wheels, carbon and a snorkel.
Get to know your local mechanic. These are crap for reliability.
never seen a proper responsive screen. what's up with this plastic hvac panel crap??
how can it be new with a 73 plate
Its crap to work on and just as unreliable as all other Land Rovers. I have two I love them and hate them, but my Disco 5 comes with a free bag of spanners and a laptop for all the errors, its great how you talk about the human interaction with the car, but try living long term with it....another enthusiast car, trust me...
👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎😎Nice..
Thr Disco 4 was peak of looks and kept the traits of the car feom Series 1. This is a sad attempt at a blend of range rover and no wonder soccer mums leaned to the defender makinf disco a depreciation hero, whilst defender owners went to ineos. Disco isnt special anymore, just like mini have ruined the countryman and cooper. Sure nice inside but bland, overpriced and just for rich wankers now, where disco 1, 2, 3 and even 4 were for rhe average country travellers who paid odd their mortgage and the kids had moved out, or were professionals.
Perfectly put .
OMG how shit is that boot size?!?! 😮😂
No, awful ugly car. Not a patch on the D4. Rear seats are not stadium so lower giving it at uncomfortable ride in the back. Hit with loads of problems and cheap plastic and most owners don’t know how to park. Had landrovers for years and looked after them
Bad build quality and bad engines
Still looks as ugly as when it was originaly released. Don't see many out on the road. Wonder if owners wait until it's dark before venturing out? Had one when my LR4 was being serviced. Couldn't wait to return it! The true replacement for the Discovery LR4 is the new Defender
