In a sense that is the fault of living in a "safe neighborhood". One develops a false sense of security so a knock on the door in the middle of the night must means a neighbor heeds help, an emergency. They answer the door never imagining it could be a criminal, no not in their nice safe neighborhood. Bad things only happen in bad areas and you can bet people in those bad areas dont open the door in the middle of the night.

She's a moron, probably a Liberal, and the only reason she is alive to tell the reporter about how stupid she actually is is because this stranger almost certainly WAS NOT a "home invader". Just to be clear, it doesn't bother me on iota that this guy got vaporized...but it doesn't sound to me like he was actually a criminal. Or at least, his intention wasn't to burgle these homes or attack the homeowners.
The moron who opened her door in the middle of the night for a male stranger who was trying to break in through her front door claimed that the stranger told her that "his mother lived in the home". It sounds to me like the stranger was either one of the many nutcases who are roaming the streets all over our nation because the Lib scumbags won't allow us to lock them up in insane asylums where they belong like we used to, OR he was extremely drunk or extremely high and he thought he was somewhere (a good assumption would be his mom's house) that he wasn't.
There are lots of cases of morons who are so drunk that they pound on the wrong door in the middle of the night and even break into homes thinking that they are at their own home or a friend or relative's home and they end up getting shot and killed by the homeowner who only knows that an adult male stranger just broke into their house in the middle of the night and they need to defend themselves and their family from him.
Although with that said, I would think that the "mental illness" scenario is perhaps more likely because I can't see a drunk successfully climbing onto a vehicle, then onto a roof and then breaking through a second story window while hammered. But I suppose that someone high on meth certainly could do something like that. So I'd say that this stranger was either mentally ill or he was high on meth and was trying to get into what he thought was his mom's house. This just doesn't sound like the actions of a home invader based on the description of the moron who opened her door for him in the middle of the night.
If his intention was to rob the home and/or attack the homeowner(s), then he would've just forced his way in and attacked the idiot woman who opened her door for him. He definitely would not have simply gone right next door and broken into the neighbor's house knowing that he had just interacted with a neighbor who could identify him and who was going to see him break in through the second story window of the house next door and would obviously call the cops immediately. Those are the actions of someone who is either drunk/high or is mentally ill...not someone who is looking to rob a house or commit a murder in the middle of the night.

Just as an addition to a story like this: Several months ago, I lived in a flat/apartment, on the second floor, we were the only unit that had an open balcony, cos our landlord refused to invest any more money into security, despite a same attempt a year before through a window where somehow they climbed up via the air conditioner units. I scared them off when my cat freaked out at the sounds, and luckily, it was two men (My room-mate and I) that shouted at them from the doorway as he was only climbing through.
The second time they somehow drilled a hole through the concrete fence and stole the stepladder from the caretaker. That time my cat freaked out again while I had headphones on, and he must've freaked out too, jumped, and ran. To conclude, I was in a heavy crime area, and in my country getting a personal firearm is exceptionally expensive, as well as time consuming, and in addition, the firearm MUST be locked away in a Police approved safe on the property.
I don't think I need to mention that police never showed up despite four separate calls to the emergency centre, since I just wanted to clean up the scene at that point. This is minor compared to all the muggings, hijackings and home break ins I've experienced with both friends and family, and so far, no lives lost. I've tried to get a firearm, but the process has take longer than two years, with "systems being down" or "you must just wait," as answers, nevermind in the last two years, government attempted to pass a bill whereby "self defense" was no longer going to be considered as a valid reason for a firearm license. Americans, please never give up your rights for self protection, cos things can only go one way.

I live several blocks from where this shooting happened. The neighborhood is relatively safe but has gotten sketchier and sketchier over my lifetime and especially since the pandemic. However, neighbors generally talk to eachother around here and yes, a sizeable number of us are armed! So it's a pretty poor idea for anyone trying to do a home invasion around here.

Sounds like you and the rest of the neighborhood need to start a neighborhood watch program and utilize a communications platform to let others know of what's happening. Imagine if the first woman who was able to slam the door on the criminal sent out an alert to everyone in the neighborhood about him. It would prepare others, and could have made it easier for the woman he went to next to be waiting for him.

Incarceration results in US paying for some POS to be housed, receiving medical attention being fed and warm watching TV on our dime. The liberals seek to disarm us and let the politicians be protected via the arms the public is forbidden. Police are defunded and their hands are tied leaving them unable to truly enforce the law. We each choose to be a victim or something else. Make mine "something else" I try to teach anyone that asks how to employ defensive techniques that might work for them. I started my daughter in second grade with a pellet pistol using old boxes as targets in the garage. She is now a mother of 4 and they are going to be introduced to firearms with the same pellet pistol their mother was 30 some years ago. It was once taught in school, but that made too much common sense. Good for you teaching your kids how to handle themselves and firearms both. Ignorant and helpless does not keep them safe from danger, it merely prevents them from relying on their training and knowledge to be a helper and not a hindrance.

Well, first you have to chew that last bite of donut and wash it down with coffee so you can talk on the phone, then you have to un slouch in the chair and pick up the phone, then you have to listen to the whole 911 operator report, then you have to key up the dispatch radio and call the officers and wait for one to respond, then you have to call that specific officer for his 20, then you have to wait and see if any other officers call in and report a better 20, then you have to read him the entire 911 operator's report and direct him to head to the scene. That's a good 7 minutes right there. Must be the officer was not in the drive through lane at McD's. You don't seem to understand how brave and heroic your police force was for being on duty, more or less ready to take a report.

Breaking in through second story windows is not as uncommon as one might think. Burglars don't bring ladders, but they use "your" ladder that you leave in the backyard. I install security systems and always check for windows accessible by low overhangs. Had a customer that refused extra protection on a second-floor window over the garage with a low roofline. 2yrs later they broke in through that same window and left the same way. They never went downstairs which was covered by 3 motion detectors. They stole all their wedding presents. Customer did remember I had mentioned protecting that window.

in my city, criminals will not only use ladders, they flip over outdoor furniture, use milk crates you might stack behind the garage, tall garbage cans, anything.

I went back and listened to the video twice and the report the face puppet gave. The intruder attempted accessing her house a few times before she answered the door. Why someone would answer a door where someone was attempting to gain access is beyond me?
The homeowner of the house where entry was made must have been a pretty good or lucky shot where two rounds were able to put the person down. I'd be tripping on spent brass casings and wouldn't be able to hear for a few days.

Every person is responsible for their own safety and wellbeing.

Thugs have cars. It’s amazing how many people don’t get that.

They do not. They just borrow one. Happened to a friend of mine. Took it from his "nice neighborhood" to drive back to the inner city and when it ran out of gas they took another one to finish the trip.

@@johnpublic6582 I didn’t say they actually paid for one. I meant they have the necessary thugness to acquire a means of transportation.

Nothing loosens a perp's sphincter and bladder better than the clickety clack before the boom of a shotgun. I personally like the 20ga Shockwave, a kinder, gentler version of a sawed off.

Sadly that first woman was in the most danger..... NEVER open your door like that... especially late at night, especially if someone claims something that isnt true. "oh? i thought my mother lived here, i need to see her!". Just... DONT....
What would have happened had she not been able to get the door shut? I doubt she keeps a phone right there at the door.. she'd have to run to find one.. IF she even had the chance to run.
Just... DONT .... NEVER open up the door... talk through it, but never open it.
