I am a 51 year old grumpy American guy and I listen to BABYMETAL daily, even though I don't understand a lick of Japanese and I am far from being a metalhead. Their energy is just as good as drinking coffee in the morning. At first hearing them back in 2014, my brain was confused and I thought "WTF is this!", but as I listened to more songs like Karate, Akatsuki, Road of resistance...especially their live performances...I became a HUGE fan, and hope to see them in Sacramento, California this October at AfterShock festival. BABYMETAL is a "gateway" band into metal for many people, which I believe was kind of their goal when they were formed. Because of them, I have started listening and paying attention to other metal bands. I really hope you check out their other songs, especially the live performances. 🤘🦊🤘

I'm an old rocker boy and metal head from the '80s. Ozzy, Metallica, Pantera through the Grunge of the 90's. I heard BabyMetal for the first time when they were still little kids back in 2012 when a friend came back from Japan and got me a singe CD as a gift. He thought I'd laugh and hate it. He was very, VERY wrong. I've gotten to see them twice live, and have my ticket to see them again at the beginning of September. Music has ever been a filter for my feelings, and BabyMetal is what I listen to when I need to smile. When I need a little push to get through my workout, or get house work done, or just need a pick me up. I listen to the Kami Band's heavy track, and Su's amazing vocals, and I just happily receive joy from the sound.

I'm a 42-year-old metalhead and I've known BABYMETAL for about three years. When I saw them for the first time - FoxFestival 2015 show at Saitama arena on DVD (from this concert, for example "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan" on youtube), I had a smile on my face the whole time (because KAWAI :) ) and I was very impressed at the same time. No other concert had me so attached to the screen. Today I have all their big concerts on BD and I'm a huge fan.
There are really many reactions to choose from. From the "baby songs" from the first album to the mature ones from their fourth album, which was released this March.
If you are going to do another reactions, choose live performances. It's always an experience.

BABYMETAL debuted in 2010 as a sub unit of the school-themed idol group Sakura Gakuin and became independent when Su (the lead singer) graduated from the group. In 2014 Yui and Moa also graduated from Sakura Gakuin and with that they continued their career in BABYMETAL. Currently there are 3 members, from 2010 to 2018 Yui was part of the group but left the group for health issues so from then until 2023 they were a duo.
In April 2023 one of the dancers who accompanied them since 2019 (Momoko who was also part of Sakura Gakuin and graduated in 2017) was officially announced as the new member of BABYMETAL and her debut was with the MV for Mirror Mirror.

You know? You are right. I used to be squared and in a box like that, a metal elitist. But I ended up being a bored metal elitist listening to the same over and over again. Until I discovered BABYMETAL in late 2019 (probably too late). And it was instant love. I was conscious that something was happening since the first minute. It was very direct to me. Now I'm 99.98% a kitsune. 😁

Excellent first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊 Good job on the research you did as well. I may repeat some things you already found out, hopefully I will add something of interest to go with it.
BABYMETAL are pretty much unique in that they invented their own genre and nobody has been able to do what they do (some have tried, none came close). They are Su-metal (lead vocalist), Moametal and since the start of this month Momometal (backing vocals, harmonies but mainly in charge of dance, leading the audience, getting everybody involved and joining in).
The third original member, Yuimetal, sadly left the band in October 2018 having been absent from the stage for the previous 12 months. She had ongoing (and undisclosed) health issues.
After Yui left Su and Moa continued as a duo through to their 10th anniversary and a bit beyond, supported by 3 dancers (the Avengers Riho, Kano and Momoko) taking turns dancing in the third spot. Momoko was the only remaining Avenger from about March 2020 and was finally revealed as the official new third member on 1st April this year.
They started in 2010 as a sub-unit of a school themed J-Pop Idol group called Sakura Gakuin which was set up by the Amuse talent agency as a way to coach and train about a dozen of the most talented girls on their books in all aspects of entertainment (singing, dancing, acting, modelling, writing, stage management etc) with a view to their choosing how they would like to continue their career when they were at school leaving age (15 in Japan).
In 2013 Su would be 15 and would graduate from Sakura Gakuin (having the school theme it was for girls aged 10 to 15), but it was decided that BABYMETAL should be her vehicle as she furthered her career as a vocalist and should separate from the Idol group to go with her as an independent band in their own right.
BABYMETAL have gone on to become one of the very best live bands on the planet (and have won international awards to prove that is not just my opinion). Their big arena shows are spectacular, but they put on great shows every time, even in smaller venues and festivals as they tour the world where they can't always have all the special effects and flames etc too.
They are supported in live shows by the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians, each one of them a world class instrumentalist. There are many people who have played in the Kami band, but they only have 2 guitarists, 1 bass player and 1 drummer for each concert (there was an exception to that rule for a special occasion in 2020, but this comment will be too long already without explaining that).
The Kami Band became the full time support for all live shows at the start of 2014 and have been with BABYMETAL ever since - but only for live shows, they do not record the studio versions.
The Kami Band of the West - American musicians (this may be where you got the idea of them having 2 bass players, 2 drummers and multiple guitarists from) - have supported BABYMETAL in the more extended foreign tours since 2019.
BABYMETAL are best experienced live. Even they say so themselves. If you do want to do more reactions RAH22 has given some good suggestions.
That thing with Rob Zombie happened back in 2016 - it does seem to resurface every year or so since, but good on him for putting down the haters - as you said, they probably heard the first 30 seconds of 'Gimme Chocolate' and never looked any further to see what all the fuss is really about.
'Karate' was the lead single for their second album from 2016. You were right when you said it felt very positive despite not understanding a word of it (they are very good at getting the general meaning or feeling or emotion across that they want you to feel in their songs even if you speak absolutely no Japanese - and sometimes they just want you to jump around like an idiot and have fun).
It is about fighting adversity, when life knocks you down and everything seems too hard so you're hurt and crying, its about standing up and fighting on, helping each other through the hard times. They used karate to illustrate this as it is a Japanese martial art and reflects their culture - as with a lot of their songs it is also about always moving forwards.
In the video the figures in white were the girls all along and they were conjuring up their own inner demons to fight against. They beat the first, the second knocked them down but they got up to eventually defeat themselves (did you notice the reflections of each of the girls in their own eyes when the masks shattered and it was revealed as them? Not many people spot that).
They did watch a lot of martial arts movies to get ideas for the choreo as they wanted it to look as authentic as possible. Moa catching the fly was a nod to Mr Miyagi in The Karate Kid. Mr Miyagi may have used chop sticks (and it may have taken him two or three films before he caught one), Moa caught her fly with her eyes closed - first time ... and she didn't kill it as Moa is so sweet that she absolutely would not hurt a fly.
This song and video won 2 awards. "Best Metal Video in MTV Video Music Awards Japan 2016" and "Best Metal Song in 6th Annual Loudwire Music Awards".

Great first reaction! 🤘🦊🤘Thank you for giving BABYMETAL a chance!!! BABYMETAL started back in 2010 and since then have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Glastonbury, Download, Sonisphere, etc), US, and Asia. They are the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley arena in the UK. Also, 20+ awards have been given to them. They have 60+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too.🤘🦊🤘

Now that you have seen the music video, you should watch them perform it live...my favorite is "Karate - live at Download UK 2016". Plus they are great at crowd interactions! 🤘🦊🤘

Great reaction! You are mistaken about the band backing them, though. They don't have a fixed band that is part of BABYMETAL. There is a pool of a dozen or so session musicians that play with them, but not all at the same time. There's always the typical Metal configuration of drums, bass and two guitars.
Now what you need to do next is watch a live performance to understand where Rob's comments are coming from. There are aspects like choreographed dancing that add much more to the entertainment level than one might expect. If you'd like to see what this very song translates to on stage, the "Download 2016" performance would be a great choice. But every song and performance is fine, really.
And it's not just the amount of energy at these performance, but also the quality of the energy. As you already noticed, there's always this air of positivity around them that's still quite unusual in Metal.

They have so many bandmembers because they're session musicians who aren't employed full time for Babymetal and can't always participate in every tour with the same lineup. For the most part they tour with the same band, called the "Kami band" (1 drummer, 2 guitar players, 1 bass player), and usually only the guitar players are rotated depending on who's available. The bassist and drummer are almost always the same as far as I know and I think the pool of guitar players is at around 3 or 4 at the moment.
I've recently learned that they have also done tours outside of Asia/Oceania with western musicians because they couldn't make a world tour work with their usual japanese lineup. So fans have started referring to their original Kami band with japanese members as "Kami band of the east" and when they tour with their western musicians it's been called "Kami band of the west".

  • @mitchellhodgemeyer7306
    @mitchellhodgemeyer7306 Год назад +23

Just FYI, they have 3 members again now as of the beginning of this month. Also, they do not have 9 band members for their live performances - they typically have 4 - 2 guitarists, 1 bassist, and 1 drummer. A few of these roles are sometimes filled by different people though, particularly the guitarists. Also, there is the regular Kami Band but also a "Western" Kami Band. The Western Kami Band is made of of notable American metal musicians, and they support BABYMETAL during certain tours and live shows, especially during North American and/or European tour dates.
BABYMETAL just released their 4th album last month. It is called The Other One, and they have released several official videos/and/or visualizers for songs off of the album. IMO it's a pretty bad ass release - they have yet to release a bad album (or have any truly bad tracks for that matter.
Personally, I dig BABYMETAL. The invented their own metal subgenre, their musical catalogue is excellent, their live shows are among the best in the world, and their fun factor is off the charts. I've never heard one legitimate argument against this band - all arguments against them (other than someone just not liking their sound - which is the ONLY legitimate argument that someone can make) are easily defeated with basic facts. The claim for example that they just sing and don't add anything to the music - which is a retarded thing to say considering Bruce Dickinson, Rob Halford, Rob Zombie, Ozzy Osbourne, or any other number of metal vocalists who don't play instruments and just do vocals. Not only do BABYMETAL do vocals, they also dance - so they actually do MORE than a typical metal vocalist. Or, the argument that they're a gimmick - which is also a stupid argument considering that half the bands in metal could be considered gimmicks (Slipknot, Iron Maiden, Ghost...the list goes on.)
    Anyway, yeah, BABYMETAL kicks ass.

    • @christophermzdenek
      @christophermzdenek Год назад +2

Regarding gimmick, I would ask if Alice Cooper is a 'gimmick', or is it still a gimmick if it has been successfully refined for over a decade? Needless to say, I've been comfortably down in the Foxhole for a very long time.

    • @mitchellhodgemeyer7306
      @mitchellhodgemeyer7306 Год назад +2

@@christophermzdenek I would say yes, technically Alice Cooper's act/show/persona is somewhat of a gimmick - and the length of time doing a gimmick has no real bearing on the basic fact that it's still a gimmick. But I must also qualify what I just said by also saying that the word "gimmick" doesn't really have any meaning when applied to metal music. So many bands in metal use made-up personas, or costumes, or makeup, or made-up mythology, that I would argue that, if the supposed "gimmick" is tied in a fundamental way to the music, then it's not really a gimmick at all, but instead could better be described as a "style."
Regardless of how someone feels about bands that use a gimmick/style though, metal "purist" gatekeepers apply hypocritical rules to say what's "legitimate" metal as it suits them and not by any agreed upon or standardized objective criteria, and they always claim that something like BABYMETAL is a gimmick when they would never say the same thing about someone like Alice Cooper - or the hundreds of other musical artists/bands that use a gimmick/style but that are still accepted as legitimate by the mainstream metal community.
Basically, the people that claim that BABYMETAL is a gimmick and not legitimate are just whiny people who want to bitch about something and are full of crap. Yes, BABYMETAL, like Alice Cooper, could be said to use a gimmick/style, but, as I said, so could MANY other bands considered legitimate. And with BABYMETAL at least they literally INVENTED their gimmick/style - so they are way more original than most. There are many black metal bands for example that use Satan worship, face paint, and satanic imagery as a gimmick/style, but there is only one band like BABYMETAL that I'm aware of, and that is of course BABYMETAL themselves.

So about the supporting band: they hire session musicians, and expecially at the beginning, they were rotating them out, but from 2014 onwards they have usually almost always used the same 1 bassist, 1 drummer, and 2 out of 3 guitarists. In 2019/20, since they did an extended US and EU tour, they hired some american musicians to do the western part of the tour (1 drummer, 1 bassist and 2 guitarists) and called them Kami band of the West, and the Japanese ones are Kami band of the East. At the Legend Metal Galaxy show in Japan, they did a special performance as last song, were they put all 8 musicians together, and performed with 2 drummers, 2 bassists and 4 guitarists, but it only happened twice, for the ending song of the 2 days of that specific show.
At the beginning, when they first were trying out the live band, they also tried a female violist, but she only did a small tour with them. You have to understand that Babymetal didn't always have enough money to hire musicians, so they started with a backing track, and then slowly started phasing in a live band!

Welcome to the foxhole 🦊🦊🦊 The first time I heard Karate I was like MEH, but will admit the song grew on me. As Grington stated, the song is basically about overcoming obstacles, and if you get knocked down you have to get back up. And sometimes your biggest obstacle is yourself. A lot of there songs have pwerfully meaning behind them. The have Megisune which is basically about woman empowerment, Megitsune being a female fox/vixen. In the song it talks about how women are expected to act certain ways (smiling on the outside while crying on the inside) and at one point in the song Su quotes a gangster movie, where the daughter of the boss says, "Maidens, should not be underestimated). The have Ijime, Dame, Zettai which is an anti-bullying song and the say sometimes the people who hurt you the most are those claimimng to be your friends because the do nothing. The have road of resistance which is about forging your own path, not taking the easy road. the currently have 4 albums and some 60 songs in their discography. Live is the way to go to really appreciate them.

Su-Metal is one of the best lead vocals ever. Early on she was selected to front the band (all the way back when it was just a club similar to a school club) because of her presense and powerful vocals. She was precise and powerful from day 1, and over the course of years she has turned into a truly special singer. Babymetal as a group is one of, if not the, best live performing band ever. Catch any of their live performances (except the ones recorded by BBC - they screw up the sound in many of the recordings) and it's just a spectacle of energy joy and music. I have utmost respect and appreciation for them.

CLASSIC REACTION OF PEOPLE WHO DO NOT KNOW BABYMETAL

  • @stevechevy3382

Nice reaction. Karate is a fan favorite song by them. And many folks laugh a bit or even more when Yui and Moa start their vocal parts on the song. And their just doing kata forms. Use the breathing technique while doing it. And then Su starts to sing and the whole feel of the song changes. A very oh it's serious now. That switch in feeling they even do when they perform this live. The song uses the philosophy of Karate in daily life. Karate has no backwards movements. It's all about going forward. Babymetal uses that to give us hope and inspiration. Overall, a very uplifting song. When they go down in the video. The lyrics talk about when life has you down. When you're hurt and on the ground. Get up and go forward because that's all you can do in life. And then they pick each other up. Marking how you don't have to go through things alone. Leading us to this statement by them. Remember Babymetal is always on your side. this is the power of music. Many folks have left statements on reactors channels about how Babymetals music helped them through some dark times. I myself listened to a lot of Babymetal during the covid lockdowns. Heck, I use their very first song Doki Doki Morning as my alarm clock. I hope you react to that song. You might start using it as yours as well. This song is from the now classic era of Babymetal. Covering their first two albums. When the group was the original three Su-metal, Yuimetal, and Moametal. Then came the duo era after Yuimetal left in 2018. Su and Moa carried on for five years as a duo. Now they have moved beyond their starting music of Kawaii metal. They started when Su was 12 and Yui and Moa 10. Today Su is 25 and Moa will be 24 on July 4th. And as others have mentioned they added a new member earlier this month. Momoko AKA Momometal. Starting a new Era for Babymetal. A few days ago, I learned the Japanese word, Kaizen. Which means "For the Betterment of People". I started thinking of Babymetal songs and how they have strong uplifting positive messages to them. The though came across my mind that this new era is the Kaizen Metal Era of Babymetal. Enjoy the journey through the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music.

Great reaction! So many metal fans have been gatekeeping them for a decade, but they are becoming a far less vocal minority because since the pandemic so many people, myself included, really discovered BABYMETAL and absolutely love them! I went a solid 2 years straight listening to exclusively them for music and there was not a wasted moment in there because they are just so good.
Another reactor compared BABYMETAL to Weird Al a year or two ago. He said that just like when Weird Al came out, with BABYMETAL they HAD to have some of the best musicians behind them to give them credibility, and that's exactly what they got. The hard playing and level of technical parts to a lot of it really shines and elevates every performance, although the same can be said about Su's singing and the dancing by Moa, Yui when she was part of them, and then Riho & Kano as part of the Avengers dance group that helped fill the spot when Yui left. The final Avenger, Momoko, was just made the new permanent member at the end of March/beginning of April. There is no one part to this group that could do it all on their own; every piece of it needed to be in place to help them make it as big as they are...and I still think they have so much further to go, especially here in the states.
As for the band, I'm sure multiple people have mentioned it: they don't have all those members playing at once. Each performance (usually) only has one drummer, one bassist, and two guitarists playing. I say usually there because they have done a couple big shows, most notably at The Forum in Los Angeles, a couple years ago when they decided to have two bands playing for them. When they are in Asia/Australia area, they have the Japanese Kami Band, or Eastern Kami Band, who are the guys that have been with them for damn near a decade. In Europe, the U.S. and other places they have the Western Kamis, who are mostly made up of a band that did metal dressed as stormtroopers from Star Wars for several years on here and other places. They also have a couple of musicians who have filled in in the past if someone else couldn't make a show.
I'm looking forward to more of your reactions to their stuff!

    BABYMETAL 101
Babymetal is a Japanese group founded in 2010 and produced by Kei “Koba” Kobayashi from the Amuse Inc. talent agency. Babymetal name comes from the birth of a new style of metal fusing j-pop with metal creating what they call Kawaii Metal (Cute-Metal).
The group currently consists of Suzuka Nakamoto aka “Su-Metal” (25 years old) sometimes referred to as Vocal and Dance. Moa Kikuchi aka "Moametal", pronounced as Moa-Metal (23 years old) as part of Scream and Dance. Momoko Okazaki aka Momometal (20 years old) as part of Scream and Dance . They are supported by a rotating selection of talented male backing musicians known as the Kami Band (Kami is usually poorly translated as gods, but in truth it more closely means awe inspiring spirit, entity, or object) It is why they are dressed in white to look like ghosts or spirits, though Kami being used as God(s) is so common in translation the white outfits get lost.
    Past Formations.
    Heavy Music Club Era (2010-2012)
From 2010 to 2012 Babymetal consist of a three-member formation, Suzuka Nakamoto (Age 12), Moa Kikuchi (Age 10), and Yui Mizuno aka "Yuimetal" pronounced Yui-Metal. (Age 10). First starting out as the Heavy Music Club as a subunit within the Developmental Idol Group created by Amuse in 2010 known as Sakura Gakuin. Sakura Gakuin is a group that introduces girls between the ages of 10-15 to music, dance, modeling, and acting through Japanese Pop idol music and culture. Given a school theme, all three would be a part of Sakura Gakuin until their graduation from it in the same school year they would graduate from Japanese middle school or 15 years old. Suzuka graduated in March 2013, and Moa and Yui in March of 2015. Sakura Gakuin is a fantastic group with great kawaii jpop songs in their own right. During this time there was no lore, and the girl’s costumes were more punkish in nature which they helped create. They also didn’t perform with live music, using a backing track or the “Skeleton band” people pretending to play music behind them.

    Babymetal/ Metal Resistance Era (2012-2017)
Starting in 2012 with the Legend I concert, Babymetal began its slow divorce from Sakura Gakuin, and was the first introduction of the Kami Band as well as the “Lore” that is still heavily involved in Babymetal but makes far less sense than it did during this time. The Lore is complex and involves a battle against other evil idol corporations, gaining powers, some time travel, running a resistance group, all at the direction of a mythical deity known as the fox god, against an all power enemy known as Akiba. The first Legend show I was the Kami Bands introduction to the end, but it also had the Skeleton Band which is seen in the wildly popular Gimmie Chocolate Music Video. This was followed by Legend D, and then Legend Z, in which it was learned that Babymetal would continue as its own entity after Suzuka’s graduation from Sakura Gakuin in March of 2013. Slowly over 2013 the Skeleton Band would be phased out of all live shows, as Babymetal came into their own.
Babymetal as it is most commonly known as with Su-Metal, Moametal, Yuimetal, the Kami Band, and a somewhat understandable lore is what consisted for the majority of it’s existence. Also established beyond the 3 member formation, they had 2 other set ups, one was what fans called Su-Solos, and it would just be Su on stage with the Kami band, performing a solo, and the other is known as Black Babymetal by the band themselves, which consisted of just Moa and Yui.

The Dark Times, The Chosen 7 Era (2018)
In December 2017, Yui would miss the Legend-S concert for health reasons, these health problems would prosiest into 2018 and greatly affect the 2018 touring season bring the “Chosen 7” formation, consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi, and 2 backing dancers Minako Maruyama, and Minami Tsukui. Changes they would not tell fans and all throughout 2018 communicate extraordinarily little causing lots of pain for all involved fan and performer. This era is noted by their strange armor like costumes, sometimes referred to as Elf Armor. To make the poor communication, and Yui’s absence wasn’t bad enough, one of the more regular Kami band members, Mikio Fujioka passed away after falling off a balcony in late December 2017 while star gazing. A beloved and incredibly talented musician lost leaving behind his wife and only child.
In September 2018 Yui would formally resign from Babymetal, stating her unspecified health and wishing to move on. Babymetal themselves announced that the group will move on focusing on Suzuka and Moa. (Something many idiots within the fandom refuse or are too stupid to understand)
In October Babymetal had a concert called Dark Night Carnival which added dancers, Shoko Akiyama, Saya Hirai, and Kotono, placing a total of seven girls on stage. This was also done without warning to fans and was an absolute mess. Babymetal would finish off the 2018 tour season returning to the 3-member formation with just Saya Hirai joining them in southeast Asia and Australia. Ending one of the most troubling times in Babymetal’s history.

    Distortion
Starlight (Don’t let overzealous fans fool you, this is OFFICIALLY not a tribute to anyone. A lot of fan speculation, end of story if they claim it is they are 100% lying to you.)
Metal Galaxy Era (2019- Feb 2020)
The current set up was first introduced in 2019 during the Babymetal Arises concert in Yokohama, before the start, the “Avenger” support dancer concept was explained in the lore, and the concept thanks to communication and a maintaining of the 3-member formation brought Babymetal out of dark times brought about during 2018. Babymetal seemed to have returned to its roots with the Avengers, as 2 of the three (Kano and Momoko) come from Sakura Gakuin. The third Riho, went to the same performing arts school as Suzuka during the same time, Actors School Hiroshima aka ASH.
    Music Videos of this Era
    Pa Pa Ya
    Elevator Girl
    Shanti Shanti
    Da Da Dance
    (Avenger confusion)
Which Avenger one sees can be confusing for those new to Babymetal. For the Music Videos, Pa Pa Ya, Elevator Girl, and Shanti Shanti Shanti, it is Kano Fujihira, who was just 14 years old at the time. Da Da Dance is a compilation of Momoko and Riho and a splicing of 2 different shows. In most fan cam videos of the American and European tour it would be either Riho or Momoko, as they toured with Babymetal in 2019. Kano had responsibilities with Sakura Gakuin as its president, a position Suzuka and Moa both held in Sakura Gakuin, and she’s never flown on a plane before.
Some fans for 2019 did throw a stupid temper tantrum over the use of new Kami Band members who are from the west now known as the West Coast Kami Band, but like how the girls won over many, so did they and the payoff with the Legend Metal Galaxy concert in 2020 was well worth it.

COVID Era (Mar 2020 to April 2021)
COIVD-19 has messed up a lot of things for everyone, Babymetal had to cancel their Asian tour, as well their big 10th Anniversary on October 10, 2020. Forced to keep it rather tame something very unlike Babymetal as even in their failures like the entire 2018 tour they do it septically. The question for many fans is what of the Avengers, since COVID, Avenger Riho Sayashi has signed with a new agency and has move on to other projects, including starting a fan club, which appears to rule her out of ever being an Avenger again. Kano Fujihara graduated from Sakura Gakuin on August 30, 2020, a near 4-month delay. However, she and fellow Sakura Gakuin graduates Soyoka Yoshida, Tsugumi Aritomo, and Momoe Mori in the formation of @onefive. Which leaves Momoko Okazaki as the last standing Avenger with no new commitments. However, Kano was technically in Sakura Gakuin, @onefive, and Babymetal all at the same time for almost a year so it is possible she will still be an Avenger. All shows since COVID pandemic they have done in 2020 and in 2021 have had Momoko as the Avenger.
      Music Videos of this Era

      Post 10-year Anniversary/ Covid Era Part 2 (May 2021-September 2022)
The band is stepping back from live shows due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and focusing on the sale of Merch. Don't let stupid fans fool you the band is not on hiatus or ending. They are idiots and deserves to be made fun of as they’ve been working on new material.
Momoko had a very very short stint in a Korean Idol Competition Show called Planet 99. She performed perfectly, better than most of the other girls in the show. She even got the most votes in a small side competition destroying all other 98 girls in the show in votes. This won her some hair dye (She was blonde for a bit). Ultimately be it dumb BM fans thinking the side competition was the actual competition, how the judging was heavily skewed to Korean voters, the fact that her fate was tied to 2 other girls one Korean and one Chinese, and or possibly ridged voting something the company producing the show has done in the past, Momoko was eliminated in the very first round.
      The Other One (October 2022-Current)
They have released 5 songs on RUclips, they performed a show in January 2023 where they performed these new songs leading up to the released of their Album in March with 10 new songs. During January and February shows Su and Moa were supported by Momoko. On April First (Fox Day) Their new show played many new and old songs as well as officially made Momoko Okazaki aka Momometal the official 3rd member. Bringing Babymetal back to a 3-member unit once again. This all kicks off their world tour in touring with Sabaton in Europe then Asia and Australia, and tours in US in the fall and a solo tour in Europe in winter, with a tour finally in Japan in 2024.

"Seiya soiya, We'll fight on. With our firsts more, with our spirit more, while honing all our skills. Still, seiya soiya, we'll fight on. Even if our spirits are broken and we can no longer stand."
Hey guys, good reaction! Welcome to the wonderful world of Babymetal! KARATE is a song about fighting on in the face of adversity and never giving up no matter what life throws at you. While it's not my favorite song, it is the song that first hooked me on the group, and while this music video is good I would always recommend reacting to their live shows as they consider themselves more performers than recording artists.
Just a couple updates on the band: Su-Metal and MoaMetal are the two remaining original members, and since April 1st MomoMetal has become the new permanent third member. The Kami Band that plays with them live has a pool of players, however only 4 of them play during a show: two guitarists, a bassist, and a drummer. They're all amazing musicians with their own projects and bands so they rotate in and out depending on availability, however since 2019 there has been a "Western Kami Band" made up of American musicians that generally play with them on tours outside Japan, and even during some shows in Japan as well. Speaking of tours, they're on a North American tour later this year. Check them out!

But then again gimmick "used to bring attention to" to sell something. then all music is a gimmick, because they bring attention to and sell records and merchandise. I think some ppl are just jealous because at the time some cute lill 12 and 11 year olds were doing better then them.. and probably still are doing better them them to this day lol.

BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno (Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons). Both Moa and Yui were only 11 when the group began.
All three were friends and classmates who attended an idol school (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life the girls would learn and train to be idols and graduate at age 15 to move onto whatever entertainment path they chose.
Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result.
At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues) and Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
If you choose to explore more of BabyMetal I suggest reacting to LIVE performance videos as this is where they shine.
They have over 50 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Avoid Glastonbury LIVE performances as the sound production by the BBC (who was in charge of that festival did a terrible job - mics not turned on, incorrect volume levels, etc.)
Suggest reacting to these for a start.

At their concert in Yokohama on April 1 it was announced that a permanent third member Momoko Okazaki (who is also a graduate of Sakura Gakuin and has been appearing with them LIVE since 2019) has officially become the third member.
Their new album in my opinion that released March 24 is amazing with so many different styles.
Good luck and hope to see you again.

I found Babymetal in 2019. I only listened to (watched) Babymetal for several years. Now I listen to a ton of Japanese music. Metal, Vocaloid and even a little Jpop.
Babymetal is my all time favorite. My current Oshi (favorite) is Atarashii Gakko. Atarashii Gakko, Hanabie and Yoasobi.
You need to watch Band-Maid, Lovebites, Nemophila and Hanabie. Those are all female Japanese metal bands. There are tons more. But those first imo.

I don't think you have to enjoy death metal to be a metalhead. I've been listening to metal for over 30 years and I've never been able to get into death metal. I don't like the vocals. There's so much variety in metal, if not liking one or several of its subgenres means you're not a metalhead, then there are probably few if any metalheads.
BM hater to Rob: "Babymetal are J-pop, not metal!" No, they're both. That's the whole point and the genius of it.

Yui (the one who caught the fly) is the member who left in 2018 due to health reasons, they never gave further details. And being a much more private society that what we're used to, nothing more has come out other than her saying she hoped to one day be back as herself (as opposed to her stage persona of YUIMETAL).
They just now as of April 1st have a new 3rd member who was serving to fill in the stage choreo for live performances for years. But now she's finally been made an official member of the group.

Moa caught the fly. Yui was the one that left though. 🙂

How can someone who is deep enough in the foxhole to know the dates for Yui leaving and Momoko joining BM not know the difference between Yui and Moa?
