Hi Rin! Just wanted to let you know that the watercolour paint is granulating, a property of the pigment/base/both that creates the speckliness you mention. It is a property of some most basic paints, like cerulean blue. It creates additional texturing/interest. There are same colour equivalents that are created specifically without the granulation.
Also granulation is not quality-specific, so cheaper paints don't necessarily granulate more.

and not only toilet paper- actually i do that. when something bad happens i draw it, and when i come back to the page, i remember everything.

It's been the opposite for me. It went from drawing all the time and on boxes and stuff to not drawing at all. Last I drew I think it was weeks ago. This quarantine is sucking my creativity and motivation to do anything but lay in bed away.

I hope it does(or did since I'm late to reply?)! I find sometimes by watching art/drawing RUclipsrs that I can get inspired to draw something or it can get me into the drawing mood. I do hope it's the same with you
Lineart is less "textured", I believe is the term you were looking for. You definitely need to give the pen time to set and dry before it becomes waterproof. I find my tests yielded a time between 15 minutes to 3 hours (depending on the humidity, pen and type of paper.)Just try again after 15 minutes. Take a 15 min - half hour break after inking before continuing the piece. Always wash new brushes. Also you may have overworked the paper by sketching and erasing so much. Most watercolour papers are best with no erasing is possible. So print the lines or trace over on a light table if possible. Papers do vary. You also can damage the surface by getting dirt or skin oils into the paper by touching it. paper varies in "sensitivity" to reworking sketches. Fun video thanks!
I appreciate the help! I waited almost 20 minutes and tested again and it still had the problem. must need to wait longer.
DrawingWiffWaffles yeah some pens actually need hours to set. It seems effected by humidity and paper type. I tested all my pens on all my papers and there can be a huge difference! One dried on one paper in a few minutes and took 2 hours on another paper! So it can really vary!

HopeforStariSkies sometimes it is! I find I like watercolour painting better in higher humidity as it moistens better and stays wet longer. Wet in wet techniques are easier. However watercolour also takes much longer to fully dry and do the next area/layer, so a trade off.
@@valasafantastic1055 really? I wouldn't really know since I don't really paint or use water colors(mostly just pencil, markers, and pen for me). But that's actually really interesting!

Have you ever looked at a piece of art and focused in on one particular section that's absolutely amazing? This painting has that for me around the knot of her sweater. I love the way the folds of the fabric falls and is emphasized by the shading. It really brings the piece together for me! Keep up the good work and stay safe ☺

I love that you experiment with things and take the result without being upset. My struggle is a need to be perfect on the first try, every time...and always being angry with myself when I'm not. Thank you for that. ^_^ Also, I find your sound effects deeply amusing.
fun fact: the reason your watercolour pigment won't stick to your coloured pencils is because they are hydrophobic, meaning they repel water. Substances like the waxes that make up coloured pencils are lipids, and being made up of long chains of hydrogen and carbon bonds and their nonpolar nature makes them repel water. As a result, water-based pigments like watercolours and water-based pens will not stick to the areas in which the coloured pencil pigment has stuck to the paper.
As a note watercolour pencils are not wax-based, they, as far as I know, use similar binders to pan water-colors

Dear waffles how do you keep it up like how do you motivate yourself to keep being creative an sketch ? I've been having a really hard time during this pandemic to just sketch or paint like I normally would . It's taken a big toll on my life not being able to get anything out onto paper or canvas or anything you can paint on. It's been 6months since I've made a full peice of art. How do you finish your peices or sketches. I admire your creativity devotion and the way you just inspire people with new art media. I love your art videos and hope you never have a dry day. I've been inspired to draw a lot more, but I'm not sure that it's related to the lock-down since I'm a home body (due to chronic illness).
But I am super happy with how my art is progressing since I've been drawing and making art almost every day. I've been binging your videos and they've really helped me in terms of letting go of my perfectionism in my sketchbook. Got to put something down and make bad drawings to learn how to make good ones 😊 I went to art school ten years ago and it made me afraid to create bad art. My illness made me fall out of it for so long, but the past year I've been back into art and it's making me so happy!

dunno if anyone said it already, but that thing where the color pencil is showing through the paint is called "wax resist"
the wax in the pencil lead is keeping the water from absorbing into the paper. watercolorists usually save colored pencil for after they put down the paint, for detail improvements

Oh I will offer this bit of experience : Paper matters! Especially watercolor papers even supposed watercolor papers if they are not sized well or not heavy enough you might just as well use copy paper! Yeah it is not that bad, but get the best you can afford. I thought it did not matter, but when I stopped cutting corners on my paper my Artwork became so much better, So much easier to get the effects I wanted with less effort and painstaking mistakes.

A line of action would be really helpful. Put a little research into that. Otherwise, a good rule of thumb is to try and change the angle up between the shoulders and the hips which is called contrapposto. :D
