Oh hi!! I recently found your channel through your professional artist colores children's coloring book series and I have fallen in love with your content!
The problem you seem to be having with blending is that you're immediately burnishing (pressing hard) and filling up the paper. You can see the paper is filled from the shiny surface the colored are gets. If you start with a light wash of color the pencils can be layered and you can more easily blush the skin, and also when finally burnishing your end result will have a flatter, smoother fill :) I Hope this helps! Those holbein pencils seem awesome though, very colorful and opaque
Trick to more color payoff: Use the main colors lightly, and then blend together with the color blender or white. If you notice how Raedrizzle uses her color pencils, she blends with white to get the full effect after she's lighter with it. I had this problem for the longest time and when I was introduced to the Color blender on fixing this issue of color payoff (Art Collage showed me this), my wrists and fingers didn't hurt as much at the end of it all, Also you can blend different colors on top each other before you blend them together.
@@drawingwiffwaffles Oh wow, Wasn't expecting this to be seen. xD Usually I'm commenting like after you've stopped looking when I'm putting in tips or giving information when it comes to mind. You're really welcome, I have noticed you struggle with pencils in general when it's not just for sketching, and I remember the time I've struggled with some stuff, and not many people really... explain what is wrong in why it's not coming out right. (Watercolor became popular which is great, but using Drawing pencils still not, which makes me sad because you can get beautiful range from a 2H all the way to a 9B Pencil). The key to colored pencils are circular motions and gentle thin layers, in multiples. Even without blender, they will blend better using that method. I've never used meltz before but it looks like it works like oderless mineral spirits, which actually works better the more layers you've put down. Anywho, just a tip you could try. Love your work!
I just purchased my first set of ohuhu markers! You’ve inspired me so much and I’ve become increasingly obsessed with the look of ohuhu. Thank you for introducing so many of us to such a lovely art medium.
My wrist hurts after using anything thin like pencils or pens for a while, and I find out that using an ergonomic thingy around the pen/pencil really alliviates the discomfort. The problem is mixing something very thin with pressure so just gotta make the thin thing thick and voila, like nothing. It will be annoying to keep putting the pencils on it, but it's worth it in the end. I think you can buy those on stores, are usually for kids, or you can make your own with whatever thickness you need with foam clay. Foam clay because it will be light and kind of flexible after dried so you can put slighty thicker pencils too, like polychromos.
That's an interesting idea! I had never thought of that. What I do is doing some warm-up stretches on my hands and arms (yep, both of them, even though I only draw with my right hand) before I draw. It's really helped me. The only problem is that I have to keep reminding myself to do the stretches. It's really easy to forget all about them when I'm excited to start drawing, haha
@@andysartz I don't have the patience for those lol The ergonomic thingy works the best for me, not just drawing but also handwriting, especially as someone who likes handwritting a lot.
I need to get me one of those ergonomic thingies then because I have wrist issues. thank God I type a lot and had to change to typing in uni after the wrist issue. but even when I write a little, it can cause pain again.
I used to watch you all the time!! In 2019 you inspired me to do art and mermay, I would draw with you all the time! I’m older now and did my art exams!!
Tip for coloured pencils: start light! Especially when blending pencils start with a really light layer of the colours you want and build them up with small light circles (it helps to use a very sharp pencil) when you start light it kinda looks a bit like a crayon texture, when you do the next layer fill in the ‘gaps’ in the crayon texture. Getting dark, very pigmented colours is the same. It takes a long time but it is so much easier to blend and looks really nice. It also helps your hand and wrist not to hurt
Hello Waffles i have a video idea: You should try to draw contortion. So like people in weird contortion poses, i've tried it myself and it's a challenge finding the right proportions when the characters are in such weird poses hehe
My "secret" to blend colored pencils if I want to finish faster is the Caran d'Ache Luminance white pencil. It's absolute magic. It lighten the original colors a bit but personally I love the effect and the blending is always super smooth. Also works on almost all colored pencils but mostly the softer ones.
Btw, you don't have to push hard with coloured pencils, they're actually made for layering. Colour in soft and layer other colours (or the same one) on top until you have the colour you want. - an art student.
Yea a ton of soft layers if you put too much pressure with your first colors you will cover the tooth of the paper making so much harder to layer and blend

I see a few other comments saying similar things, but art school taught me that colored pencils ought to be used lightly with building up layers. You have to keep them super sharp in order to avoid texture. This helps with blending as you layer different colors. It does take forever, but the end result is gorgeous.

The return of the maggots! I have had the same issues with colored pencils but I have found if you start with a couple of thin layers of the colored pencil before you use pressure it helps and you don't have to press as hard for color pay off.
120 Crayola Colored Pencils: $32 150 Holbein Colored Pencils: $425 .. Yeah...the Holbeins are "probably better". ;) .. (for the record, I have all the Holbein in the deluxe wooden box...but none of the Crayola's, so I can't actually compare; and yes, I love 'em! :) ).
@@nycdyke2867 Absolutely true for the VAST majority of things in the world. .. That said, my experience has been that there are two "things" (types/categories) where higher price almost always equates to a better product: Art supplies for 'pro' (or at least semi-pro...so not 'childrens/school') artists, and computer equipment (PC, not Apple; Apple products are WAY overpriced!). .. Want a new video card? Well, the $500 is going to be better than the $350. Need a new printer? Yup, $110 is better than the $45. Mouse? Again, $80 is just going to be better quality, better features and better feel than the $19 next to the check-out. .. I'm finding the same thing with Art stuff...but not quite as drastic. Still, it's like night and day using alcohol markers, for example, on "24lb printer paper" versus "pro comic inking paper", or Crayola colour pencils versus Prismacolour versus Polychromos (my faves! :) ).

Hello! 😁I hope you’re having a good day and get the chance to respond to this message. I’ve been a fan of yours for years now (I started watching your videos when i was in elementary school and i’m a junior in high school now) and I always admired what you did. I’ve been thinking of posting my art or starting a youtube channel and I’m wondering if you could give me some tips and or answer any of these questions. (: Thank you in advance , even if you don’t respond, for the inspiration. 1-I know you keep your identity and your personal life off the internet but had anyone in your life found out about your channel? Did they threaten to expose you? I’m scared of the response and some one holding that over my head. 2-How did you family react? Mine wouldn’t be the most supportive and I was wondering if you dealt with a similar reaction. And if you did, how did you deal with it? Thank you so much and thanks for just uploading your videos and sharing your art with the world! 💜
Hi Marina! I really hope you end up choosing to start a channel! The world needs more art in it, and I know you could play a hand in that! 1. I was worried about that too at times. I've chosen to keep my personal life separately and although there were times I almost changed that, lately i've been very happy with that decision. No one has ever threatened to expose me. Even when I met a large number of other Art RUclipsrs at Vidcon everyone was very supportive. I think when it comes down to it, you can't expect that kindess. So be prepared to be 'exposed' but always be kind and appreciative to those who understand. 2. I didn't think my family would be supportive, but they all have been. So i can't speak on the opposite of that. But you might be surprised how easy it is to win over your family when you tell them how much something means to you. My biggest suggestion for starting a channel is to try and find a schedule that works for you and STICK WITH IT. If once a month works, do that. If twice a month works, do that. But whatever you choose, do your best not to miss your own deadlines. Consistency is what encourages people to subscribe because they can expect more content in the future. Best of luck! 💜

Waffles I have a question, is RUclips your job now or do you have an office job ? I want to know just out of curiosity. I think people who have a career on RUclips and in an office are amazing multitaskers
If you want softer colored pencils you can soak them in water for like 5 min and then set then on some paper towels and let them soak the excess water in and wallah softer color pencils.
Be good to your wrists, please! Artists and craftspeople often overlook hand care. Stretching your wrists every 30 minutes can do wonders for them. Your doctor can recommend stretches, and RUclips has many qualified physical therapists and doctors with stretch tutorials. Awesome art as per usual!
A tip for colored pencils, you have to layer to color the more saturated you want it to be. Also, the texture on your sketchbook matters a lot, try using smoother paper!

Why do I keep forgetting that you don't just post on Saturday mornings? It's such a nice surprise every time, lol.
I swear waffles is my favourite youtuber. I literally have her channel on in the background to sleep
Running out of pages?... does that mean a sketchbook tour is around the corner?😆😁
I love the way the middle green one the best! I love the character and the outfit!
Rin: if you’ve been around my channel for a while you would know that I would always complain that I didn’t know my hair color in art supplies until now
Me: WHAT ABOUT BOTATO BROWN!!!!!!
I love that your channel is just an endless stream of wholesome art content ♥
When I saw the third sketch with the lettuce green, I thought it looked like Tiana from princess and the frog, but with summer clothes lol.
i just wanted to say i’ve been watching u for years and u have really helped me grow as an artist!! 😭
YO THIS IS LIKE THE EARLIEST IVE BEEN ON ONE OF YOUR VIDEOS HIII
Welcome!!!! Hope you enjoy! 💜
@@drawingwiffwaffles I did! You’re my favorite youtuber and I always love your videos
Always a joy watching you do what you do Rin. I enjoy watercolors more than pencils even using watercolor pencils and using water to fill out areas is easier that that dang ol' pencil pressure! I am also no big fan if layer after layer trying to get pencils to look the right color! Lovely time and video Rin, thanks!
Maybe let’s find out ok here’s a little tip start off with a marker base and then use color pencils thats what i do and it’s so much better and less work
I love those sketches! They're so varied and vivacious. I'd love to see a video of Rin trying out different methods of transparency.
Beautifully done
I haven't seen the video yet, but I already know it's going to be good :)
💜💜 you are too kind
just wanted to say your videos make me really happy! i've been really nervous and sad lately and your videos manage to make me happy. thanks :)
Rin’s hands are something I wish I could replicate on my channel Artsy VB . Hail the Rincess of Artland!
Rincess? haha thats cute. 💜💜💜
@@drawingwiffwaffles Rin!!
Rincess is a clever phrase… gotta give you that…..
@@tst1tst212 thanks
11:48 in the most respectful way, in the angle i was looking, i thought the character was cross eyed and i can’t unsee it😭. it’s still absolutely adorable!
its amazing what a different perspective can do. hahahahaha
Hello! Can’t wait to watch💜💜
Hi! Hope you enjoy! 💜
Did you know you inspired me to design characters and think about having this carrier? You made me to who I am right now.. thank you for existing :) LYSM🤍☁️
I’m subscribed to palleful now I love the boxes
Coooool
glad you're enjoying them! 💜
Did you notice? Rin started making videos frequently. And this is wonderful.
Pencils are blended by Layers.
SOFT Layers. Sometimes u have to do a dozen layers to get a BAM Colour, but it's blended then.
thank you so much! i seriously need all the help i can get
all of these extra videos are making me so happy🥺
First one oof, I love ur art style btw it's just so special
thank you! 💜
The return of the maggots! I have had the same issues with colored pencils but I have found if you start with a couple of thin layers of the colored pencil before you use pressure it helps and you don't have to press as hard for color pay off.
120 Crayola Colored Pencils: $32
150 Holbein Colored Pencils: $425
..
Yeah...the Holbeins are "probably better".
;)
..
(for the record, I have all the Holbein in the deluxe wooden box...but none of the Crayola's, so I can't actually compare; and yes, I love 'em! :) ).
Price doesn’t mean always better!
my love for her art style grows more and more each video❤️🤩
When your like actually matters
of course your like matters! to me at least 💜
@@drawingwiffwaffles wow thanks ❤️
hello i just wanted you to know that i've been really sick for awhile and your videos are what keeps me going. thank you so much ♥️♥️ hope you have a good day
After seeing all the colors in this video and the last one it inspired me to make a gay pride character with a rainbow color scheme and his name is Roy G. Biv. So now I have another OC to add to all the other hundreds! 😂
Lol felt
Yay Rin’s Drawing people! I like when she draws people and she’s very good at is
thanks Alayna! 💜 I love drawing people. its been too long
@@drawingwiffwaffles OMGGGG YOU RESPONDED!!
@@drawingwiffwaffles Thank you so much for the reply!! This helps a lot and I’ll let you know when I post my first video (: Thank you again and I love the video
I would love to see a new YT channel! Reply to this comment when you post!
Woahh! This is seems like a life-saver! Blending colored pencils has always been one of the hardest parts of drawing for me in my 13 years of existence.

@@kkatfishr oh, I didn't realize, my bad.
I like the green-blue and the green one! The characters with those two colors turned out so cute!
Waffles I have a question, is RUclips your job now or do you have an office job ? I want to know just out of curiosity. I think people who have a career on RUclips and in an office are amazing multitaskers
Currently RUclips kinda my job. The lockdowns are a big reason. But before that I was working two other jobs. 😅
Omg wow :0 I could literally never I am already struggling with school and my softball team
i love the little new art style changes! especially the curled up hair ends. feels a bit more loose and intentional :)
Please review arteza real brush pens watercolor if you haven’t already
I'm not a huge fan of brush pen watercolors. sorry. i wouldn't be a good person to review that
@@drawingwiffwaffles oh ok! You are the only one that will actually read my comment though sooo yeah
I just love feeling all inspired after watching your videos 🎨💜 thank you Rin for another fab video 🥰
If you want softer colored pencils you can soak them in water for like 5 min and then set then on some paper towels and let them soak the excess water in and wallah softer color pencils.
I’m so happy that you uploaded 🤍 been going through a rough time and I needed this distraction right now 🙂
Be good to your wrists, please!
