Exactly! As a beginner, I always get very nervous when I enter a guitar store. Then when I want to try out guitar by playing something people just judge me silently. So I just end up picking the nice-looking but also not too pricey one and get out.

Let them wallow in their unhappiness alone. Furthermore, if im there to spend money, i wont if the rep is a know it all or tries to show off on the instrument im about to buy. Guitar store tactics are annoying and a turnoff.

Like who trained you in this sales tactic? I’m literally gonna buy something, just give me what I want and get your commission. No car salesman would do that if I walked on the lot and said “I’m here to buy this Lexus, I’ve got cash”

I’m a beginner and it actually makes me want to learn more to get to the point where I care enough to be annoyed by this kind of thing. Like, I want to get to the point where I’m that involved in guitar. So it motivates me to learn. But you’re right, it probably does scare some people away.

Here in the Philippines, I actually use Blackbird as a test song whenever I help someone on choosing a budget acoustic, to see if the intonation from 0 to 12th fret is accurate with that sudden slide. It's not just playing a song just to play per se sometimes.

And even their lowest range model like the academy 12 can compete with some high level guitars from the competition.

If I’m in a shop considering spending a couple grand on a guitar, I’m going to play what I want. Far more appropriate for the customer to play ANYTHING than it is for one of the clerks to be playing endlessly through a 100 watts at top volume (an experience I had recently at the local big box guitar store).
I went into a pawn shop a few weeks ago, and one of their employees was playing a drum set loud as shit. I couldn't even hear my friend talking who was standing right next to me. What's worse is that she was just beating the hell out of it and had no idea how to play, so it was literally just noise. I don't know how long she played, because I was in there for all of about 15 seconds before leaving.
Nope, someone owns that shop and they can tell you what you can and cannot play.
You need to have someone playing Stairway in the background on electric with at least one thrash metal cover and a talentless hack pounding on the drums.

Everybody is like ‘u gotta start somewhere’ like man most of these aren’t where ppl start on guitar. If you’ve never touched a guitar it would take you months to get to these songs (most)

well yeah, but fingerstyle wise, these are often the first songs people tend to learn, and then they know those the best so that's what they probably tend to play first/warm up on, cuz like for me my first 3 songs were stairway to heaven, nothing else matters, and let her go (idk what order but all around the same time) and it took me months to learn anything else
The very first time I picked up a guitar was in a psych ward. I quickly figured out how to fingerpick the theme to the S.S. Anne from the first gen of Pokémon and also the Jeopardy theme, and then figured out a few chords so I could play Free Fallin’ by Tom Petty and Friday I’m in Love by The Cure, albeit down a half step for both songs. I graduated on to Unwell by Matchbox Twenty a few days later. Bite me.

Yeah, although hearing a 14 year old pull wonderwall out screaming from a cheap acoustic is annoying the 100th time, we should celebrate people who are trying to learn.
While this may be a "joke" I have started to grow tires of seeing these RUclips guitarists that have that elite mentality over others. The ones that feel the needs to flex their shredding, sweep picking, skills, or the fact that they made their own "ultra music theory program that is guaranteed to make you a better player"and shove it down your throats. I've seen other channels that while they have their tutorials, they still tend to be more helpful and encouraging to new players instead of just playing advanced licks and saying how good they sound doing it.

Update: I’ve been able to play it on Mandolin for about a month now. Super fun instrument, and I’m glad I jumped into string instruments after years of almost exclusively brass.

Oh man, Wish You Were Here was the first song I ever learned on guitar. Gilmour is the reason why I picked it up in the first place. If I'm testing an acoustic, I usually go Dave Matthew's stretchy chords, mostly to see how my fingers like the fretboard. If I'm doing electric I usually keep it low and play "Dogs". But no Stairway lol.

MysticShadow117 probably because of the capo required if you want to play it correctly. Some stores won’t allow you to play with a capo on expensive guitars.

Just because you guys annoy me I'm coming into the store and I'm going to play whatever I want because guess what, I'm the one spending the money on the guitar and I'm the one who's going to be playing it, so if I want to play stairway to heaven on 8 different guitars you're gonna have to sit there and listen to it.
You guys are literally the reason so many young and old people are discouraged from learning an instrument because you gatekeep the living fuck out of it and despite having no experience if they don't know what they're talking about you grill them and try to get them to buy the most expensive thing in the shop.

@2:24 i was in a guitar ensemble that was funded by my local council and they got some very nice Jose Ramirez nylon string guitars for us to test out to see if they wanted to buy them for the whole ensemble. As soon as I got my hands on one I started doing some big aggressive flamenco strumming, not realising that the guitars were worth $2000 each and the council hadn't actually bought them yet. The conductor was not very pleased at all

If he wants to put down his latte and tell a potential customer he can't play whatever song he wants to play in order to decide if he wants the instrument then the boss should be looking for a new employee. If it is the boss, he should find a new line of work. Buy some ear plugs. Put on some headphones. SELL that guitar. I thought that is why this store was here.

I get where you we’re going, but many of those songs teach new players a technical style and skill that helps to shape them as players. I worked in a retail music store for about 6 years in high school and college, I would rather hear any of these songs as opposed to the “wudala, wudala, whooo’s” guitar solos!
