@@Charlie-le7xg as someone who is in a choir, if someone has that look they are in fact NOT singing, which is actually a good thing because if you sing off note or off beat or whatev, it can confuse your neighbours around you, so when people are not sure or have lost track, they tend to sing quietly or not sing at all to focus on the choir to determine where they are on the piece so that they can join right back in. Now, let’s find out what the Latin lyrics actually translate to in English (feel free to chant along in your head, it’s quite catchy - albeit intense). Here are the lyrics in Latin: O Fortuna Velut luna Statu variabilis Semper crescis Aut decrescis; Vita detestabilis Nunc obdurat Et tunc curat Ludo mentis aciem, Egestatem, Potestatem Dissolvit ut glaciem. Sors immanis Et inanis, Rota tu volubilis Status malus, Vana salus Semper dissolubilis, Obumbrata Et velata Michi quoque niteris; Nunc per ludum Dorsum nudum Fero tui sceleris. Sors salutis Et virtutis Michi nunc contraria, est affectus et defectus semper in angaria. Hac in hora Sine mora Corde pulsum tangite; Quod per sortem Sternit fortem, Mecum omnes plangite! Here they are again, translated into English: O Fortune, like the moon you are changeable, ever waxing, ever waning, hateful life first oppresses and then soothes as fancy takes it; poverty and power it melts them like ice fate - monstrous and empty, you whirling wheel, you are malevolent, well-being is vain and always fades to nothing, shadowed and veiled you plague me too; now through the game I bring my bare back to your villainy fate is against me in health and virtue, driven on and weighted down, always enslaved. so at this hour without delay pluck the vibrating strings; since Fate strikes down the strong man, everyone weep with me!
I don't think anyone is trying to steal credit from FamishedMammal, that's why it says 'misheard lyrics' in the title - the original is so well-known that they probably thought that would be enough. We are indeed singing the misheard lyrics (that’s why people are panickedly staring at their sheet music, we didn’t have much prep time). The reason it looks like the lyrics on screen and singing don't match is because the SD card in the handheld camera ran out half way during the second take :') I know because I was holding it... so the images are a mashup of two recordings ;)
I can not express how much I love the lyricism, the sound, the insane grandiosity of "Make room for aaAAaa piece of lovely cake" Given the satirical and silly nature of some of the original poems, I would say this fits right along side it all.
"SALSA COOKIES!" never fails to slay me no matter how many times I watch this and other videos of the misheard lyrics. Even though I do know the Latin lyrics, the misheard ones are better.

hateful life
first oppresses
and then soothes
as fancy takes it;
poverty
and power
it melts them like ice
fate - monstrous
and empty,
you whirling wheel,
you are malevolent,
well-being is vain
and always fades to nothing,
shadowed
and veiled
you plague me too;
now through the game
I bring my bare back
to your villainy
fate is against me
in health
and virtue,
driven on
and weighted down,
always enslaved.
so at this hour
without delay
pluck the vibrating strings;
since Fate
strikes down the strong man,
everyone weep with me!

Et defectus
Semper in angaria.
Hac in hora
Sine mora
Corde pulsum tangite
Quod per sortem
Sternit fortem
Mecum omnes plangite
I just want to compare the lyrics while watching hehe.
