The plant looks quite vigorous, soon enough she will be a much bushier orchid. I love the flowers, lovely shape and colour. Congratulations and enjoy!!!
Fantastic plant, first time I see this, thank you for sharing this treat ! Great flowers, they look long lasting too, and the growth habit is very pleasing too . I hope the grower comes back for our next show, I would love to get one!
Thank you Anne :) I hope you find one at the next show. I didn't preorder it, but it was hard to miss on the sales table, when I saw it I knew that I should get it. I am not sure where you are but Hamilton Greenhouses company visits Montreal show every year. You can probably contact them and reserve the plant for the spring show. I love the shape of the plant as much as I love the blooms :)...
beautiful..i just purchase a bloom sized one....that had buds on it and many roots...i have always wanted one..love seeing yours in full bloom...never knew they could be so prolific,.a big bush of that would be so special
Very lovely! I've thought about this one often, but it looks so small in pictures. Yours looks amazing and now I think I have to get one! Thanks for the video!
Thank you! I am glad that you liked it. It is such an easy going orchid, I got it with all bottom roots rotted and leaves were wrinkly and dehydrated but it took no time to plump it up ... You will enjoy it if you get one :)
A very pretty bloom on this plant. I love the rich red color. Will you show it again if all the blooms open and stay. I also like the vanda type roots. A very nice plant!
Thank you Beverly! I will post a picture when all blooms open. This is my kind of plant - undemanding, good growth rate and it blooms with awesome flowers :)
I think mine is brachiata type too... Do your flowers look the same? It has no potting media, just empty clay pot and large piece of cork bark for support.
Incredibly beautiful specimen sized plant. Love the color combo and texture of those flowers. Those roots grow where they will but they are fat and healthy on this very adaptable orchid! Where did you purchase this one? Possibly, there is always room for a tall and more or less tidy orchid. Are you referring to white lilac trees? Those tend to bloom in early July. They are very sweet scented. Maybe you are thinking of something else. Either way, even if you don't like the scent, it's a lovely orchid. Congrats!!!
Thank you! Yep, white lilac tree, it's not like I don't like it but it is just very strong smell. I got it at the Montreal show in March. Didn't pre-order, just saw it and got it. I think it was Hamilton Greenhouses booth, paid $55 - totally worth it. It was a bit dehydrated when I got it, but quickly plumped up with daily watering of remaining roots. Here is what it looked like when I got it: ruclips.net/video/ksnkKZXN-DI/видео.html
Very beautiful plant. This is actually a Thrichoglottis atropurpurea (brachiata). It is still being cver collected in the wild back in my country The Philippines. But nursery propagated plant is now available also.
Thank you so much for the info. I found the vendor's tag and it does say philippinensis, but I think maybe it should have been philippinensis v. brachiata? I love it. Growing in wild it must look spectacular!
@@Orchideya In some old publucations it do goes by the name of Trich. philippinensis var. brachiata. But from the more updated Philippine orchid books it is now under the name Trichoglottis atropurpurea. It is spectacular in the wild. Last year a friend of mine was able to photograph a huge specimen in the wild and the plant was in in full bloom. I think the photo will appear in a new soon to be release Philippine orchid book by Jim Cootes.
You are totally right. I checked the Plant List website, accepted name is Trichoglottis atropurpurea Rchb.f., Linnaea 41: 30 (1876). : wcsp.science.kew.org/synonomy.do?name_id=208138 I will look up the book by Jim Cootes. Thanks again, I love to learn about my orchids .
Thank you Mary. I don't think it needs a winter rest, it is a warm growing orchid. I grow it without media, it is just tied to large cork bark piece that is standing inside of empty clay pot. I think roots like to be in the air. I bought it potted, but everything in pot was rotted.
Wow the flower is beutiful . May parents have a lot of this plant . But i dont see a flower . And some times she have a buyer . For 100 peso in philipines . . Me i know how much the price of them maam thank you
Hi Orchideya, it’s me again. My Trichoglottis after several months I noticed that one by one the leaves are turning yellow. When I purchased it from Paramount orchids, there was already fungal infection. I removed it from the substrate & mounted in a tree bark. Sprayed it with Hydrogen peroxide, I cut the infected leaves but I notice recently once I cut a leaf, the next one turns yellow. Now only few leaves remain and the old roots. Since I purchased it, I don’t see any growth but the leaves & roots seem good. Just can’t figure out what the problem maybe. I hate to lose the plant so pls. Help me save my orchid. Thanks for your reply & help.
Hi Elizabeth. Oh no, I am sorry that your plant is sick. I never had any leaf drops on my trichoglottis, it seems to like to keep the leaves, even the very bottom ones, so whatever is happening to yours is not a good sign. Now, are you sure that leaves were not just mechanically damaged, sunburned, pest damaged (sometimes mites can leave yellowing leaves behind). Does the yellowing start from the leaf tip or the stem?
@@Orchideya yes, the yellowing starts from the leaf tip. Like last week I cut one leaf that has a black spot on it then put cinnamon. It turned yellow to brownish. I cut again that part to get rid from rottin but I guess I will lose it eventually. I really donno what to do. There are only few leaves left.
Ok, if it starts from a tip and with black spot then it probably is not a stem problem and hopefully not a fusarium. Please see this article here and compare pictures to what you see on your plant: staugorchidsociety.org/PDF/OrchidPestsandDiseasesbySueBottom.pdf The pests are listed first, so scroll down to diseases. Does anything there fit your plant symptoms?
@@Orchideya thanks for your advice last time. I tried to identify the plant’s spot from the website you gave but none of them matched. I thought of reducing the water + fertilizer this last 2 weeks. It seems it’s working. The leaves start to be green again and stops falling. The black spot is also diminishing. My guess maybe I over water that cause the leaf to develop black spot. Now, I alternate watering day & lessen the fertilizer. I hope it will recover. If you have some tips on growing it, pls. Let me know. Thank you so much for your help. I know you’re the best person to ask.
@@elizabethdasigan4001 Hey Elizabeth, I am so happy that your plant is feeling better. If it is mounted I would think it is pretty hard to overwater, but it is probably possible to overfertilize, which would display the leaf tips dying back. I am not an expert on orchids. I water my trichoglottis twice a week - on Monday and Friday by soaking it in water with fertilizer at half recommended strength. My fert formula is 7-8-6, so it is not very strong one and it requires half teaspoon on gallon of water but I use quarter teaspoon on gallon. On hot summer days if I think that plants drying out too much I might spray it with just tap water from the tub hose. I use this regimen for all my barerooted vandas too and it works for me. That's all I do , hope it helps :)
Hi Orchideya, I admire your orchid Philippinensis SINCE I AM A Filipino & I would love to own one but I don’t know if there is something here in Delta. BC. Do you know anywhere I can purchase one?
Hi Elizabeth, considering that you are in BC you could check out Paramount Orchids, they have it listed for sale now: www.paramountorchids.com/Species1.htm Hope it helps :)
Hi Orchideya, just one more question, does it grow hydrophonic ally? I used to grow my orchid in semi-water culture, 2 days water 5days dry. I find this nice for I can monitor my orchids. I will know what my orchids need & what to do with them in case there are problems. Thanks for the response.
@@elizabethdasigan4001 Sorry, I don't know the answer on that, I don't do water culture. My plants are either in organic substrate or bare rooted. I grow my trichoglottis just like all my vandas - bare rooted, I soak it in fertilized water twice a week and also spray with tap water in between on hot and sunny days, when it dries out too fast.
During summer I water it every day, when it is colder - every 2-3 days. It also gets roots soaked in fertilizer solution at least once a week. I treat it as all my vandas.
I think it depends on your conditions and how you grow it, potted or bare rooted. Mine is bare rooted, so it does require frequent watering to keep it hydrated. If it is growing well you are doing it right!
Hello..Absolutely amazing blooming. Have a blessed week
Thank you! You too.

Very Beautiful!!! What is the thing in the white bag? I notice it on the orchids in the back as well.
Thank you! There are pellets of slow release fertilizer in the bags on my vandaceous, so when I water them from the hose - they get some food too.
