I’m 41 and have been on 10 mg of lisinopril for about 20 years. High blood pressure runs in my family and I went in for a checkup back when I was about 20 and my blood pressure was like 150/100. My doctor decided to put me on the medication and also told me to get a cuff and monitor it at home for awhile to see if it came down. I also used to get “white coat syndrome” so my blood pressure was probably higher than normal anyway. I’ve long since grown out of the white coat syndrome. Back then, when I used the cuff at home I saw that it did go down slowly. I still have the cuff but haven’t used it in years. Whenever I get my blood pressure checked now it’s 120/80 or sometimes even lower.

I'm 43 and have had moderate hypertension the last 15 yrs. Finally had to go on BP meds since it measured 164/110 and my work said I needed to. On day four of Losartan 50mg & a diuretic 25mg once a day. Already seeing about a 8-10 pt drop in my #s and actually feeling much more relaxed! I do agree with you that some people, DO have "White Coat" syndrome. I believe that was a bit of my problem too. Did u have any side effects the first week or so when starting ur meds? Only ones I've had, are a little dizziness & tired at times.

Lisinopril caused severe coughing for me. No doctor would listen to me. One said it was asthma. Used inhaler and it did nothing. Doctor told me the BP med was working, and I would have to deal with the coughing. I did for almost twenty years. My Doc retired, got a new one. She listened to me and changed me to Losartan. Within two days. NO Cough. Been using for about three years now and still no cough. No longer using inhaler for almost all that time. So sometimes Doctors have no CLUE! Get a Doctor that will listen to you. Had a heartburn from Fluoxetine. The capsules were sticking in my throat causing the heartburn. Switched to a pill of Fluoxtine (The old Doctor told me it only comes in Capsule). Wrong again old Doc. New Doctor checked and found pill form. Again, she listened and no heartburn since. I love my new Doctor!

Within 20 minutes of taking it, I am in full-blown migraine. My cardiologist flat out “told me” Amlodipine doesn’t give patients headaches! Wanna bet? Infuriating, not to mention frustrating. Another side affect of Losinopril is “coughing”. As soon as I changed to another medication it stopped.
Also like you said Norvasc can cause edema, swelling of legs and feet. I was on it a couple years, the the swelling got real bad until I was switched to Valsartan by my cardiologist, in 3 weeks all the swelling went away..
Everyone is different and take other meds beside blood pressure, so this is just something I learned for myself.

I find the side-effects terrible, the diuretic causes constant urination at the worst time of day, 'bendrofluozide'; the midday tablet is the strongest causes tiredness, vertigo, lack of coordination, 'Doxasozin', or 'Cardura', and the night tablet wakes me up just when I want to go to bed'irbersartan'. I have coped by taking the diuretic at midday, the strong one in the evening two hours before bed, and the wake-up buddy first thing. How much pressure is being put on my kidneys? I think my cortisol levels were so high for so long due to stress that I messed up this area of my health, BMI is normal, activity good.

I was on all of these. I hade side effects on each. The really bad side effects were a build up of joint pain. I believe 4 of them gave me joint pain from really bad to heavy moderate. I was on low dosages My high BP isn't that high for the most part. But when medicine makes you feel worse it isn't worth it. One med gave me ED .. After 6 different meds they put me on Clonidine. Which control's BP pretty good But if i take m ore than . 1 mg at a time it makes me drozy about 1 he later. But i need about .25 mg a day. So i take it 5 times a day. Which is a bit of a pain in the but.

I've been on lisonopril for 20 years. The dry cough and photosensitivity are my main complaint. Since my blood pressure has been under control and caught early, I believe that it's worth it. I think it's why I'm alive today, and preventing me from heart attack and stroke now that I'm just about 40. I'm trying to live long enough to reek the benefits of all those taxes I've been paying!

    • @Brian-cr6rb

@@dw5251 it's complicated. I've been a volunteer firefighter since 99. During training exercises in early 2000's it spiked to 200/130. I know I was pushing myself but I was just kid still. It actually caused me to pass out and before I knew it my captain and chief had me in the ambulance. After monitoring it hung out anywhere between 128/82 or lower but during vigorous activities, it would spike to dangerous levels. So my PCP decided to do 10mg 1x daily. For all these years it's been normal and not spiking into death zone

Thanks but so far you and others have not mention Enalapril melleate or Enalapril unicorn the 1st one made me sick felt like my kidneys were swollen heart pulse eccelarate fast and uneven felt also funny across my face as if a strain of hair moves from the side of an eye down to other side of my mouth. I stop using it. Amlodipine increased body fat and of the severe side effects too. Just yesterday my B P was 175 over 103. Sure I'm not going to increase my dose. Last evening I started Enalapril unicorn feels bit better. I like peeing a lot helps me loose water which decrease the swollen feeling in my body and hands God bless you for answering my concerns

I have been scratching most of my time while on medication with many sleepless nights. Side effects are a pain, and I hear drugs are the biggest cause of death after cancer and cardiac problems.
Presently I take Bisoprlol which makes me dopey and 😩fatigued. It has impaired my quality of life.
