  • This week on Will it Shoe? we're going full Britney/Timberlake circa 2001 and turning some old Carhartt jeans into trainers. We briefly talk about the history of the workwear giant and try out an extended look at the production process (let us know what you think!) before showing off the results and getting Sam's genuine reaction.

I think if you put semi-ASMR in your title your channel could actually explode. Love the videos.

Love, love, love them. The genuine faded jean look is sweet and the brown sole and laces worked a charm,
Really looks like a marketable design.

Would be the perfect addition to a Canadian tuxedo.

If you have those shoes, I think you’re contractually obligated to get a Canadian tuxedo.

I love this joyous series. I’m always impressed with how your workshop approaches the design, whatever materials are thrown at them.

I don't like all white trainers, but these shoes on the other hand I would wear gladly. And yeah, I agree that the gumshoe and the brown contrast lacing looked wonderful...

Nice to see your vids are getting better. Longer format really works well. Maybe you can add more like the shoe maker telling us some facts. Btw, here's my suggestion for will it shoe... Uniqlo Airism Cotton

These shoes are a hell of a lot nicer than any footwear Carhartt has ever put their brand on.

Great video. Would love to see a little more discussion about construction techniques used at the end there. And some on the foot modeling so we can really see how the shoes look. 12 minutes instead of 9.

Turned out awesome with the soles! I imagine pvc canvas from Louis Vuitton would be doable if you add some reinforcement to it, could be an idea.

Yes! I love this video! I appreciate getting to see more of the shoe making process. Amazing craftsmen. Icing on the cake was the final product, those shoes looked clean. I love the look of the gum sole, laces, and eyelets. Perfect call out to the classic Carhartt duck canvas jackets.

Love those jainers, I'd definitely wear them and I agree, the brown eyelets, laces and gum sole were a good choice. It'd be interesting to see what you guys could do with fish leather!

Long ago I had a bespoke bicycle hat maker use leg pieces from my black Carhartt bib overalls. I still wear it! “Short and Angry” was her company name. She’d make a hat from pretty much whatever a customer provided, but apparently she isn’t in business now.
I did subsequently make an inferior hat from very used faded brown canvas Carhartt work pants.
There are a lot of uses for that durable cloth!

Where I live when we hear Carhartt we think of their cotton duck workwear, it would be cool to make some shoes out of that. I just used some scrap cotton duck from an old pair of work pants to patch up the heel counters in some cheap old leather boots - it's holding up better than the original liner.

I have something that’s just sitting around that could make a couple pairs of shoes that I think has a lot of character and could be cool. A handmade waxed canvas apron by Hardmill in Seattle that I wore for years as a barista and coffee master

I have some exercise bands lying around (the kind that are a thin sheet of elastic)… it would be fantastic to see you try to make a shoe out of elastic.

A few years ago I saw people making bags out of old billboard material which is actually pretty durable. I wonder if you could make shoes out of that. I think they end up just throwing it away most of the time when they switch over a billboard. It's like a vinyl. They may look cool.

Great video. All your videos are good. But I think this was one of the better ones. Because you seem to show more of the processes. Oh and I think a good idea for a shoe would be a Carhartt jacket material. Or even a kuhl jacket. Both of those jackets are very durable and good looking . Especially the kuhl jacket in my opinion. One more thing . I think you guys should've used a belt loop on the heel portion of the shoe. Thanks for the videos guys! Enjoy the rest of the day!

I'd wear them. Now new heavy selvedge 20 Oz or above using the patch for the heal details that pair would be right up my street. As the shoe wears in the fabric will change. It's probably been done before just my opinion that's all.

I would have placed the Carrhartt label on the side of only one of the shoes. These are ready for the mass market. Time to call Carrhartt and make a deal.

Ive started to dislike this series. Every episode is: take a thing, attach it to leather, and make the same shoe.
It would be more interesting if you couldnt add leather to give it structure. Bonus points if your able to reprocess the item into a sole or laces

Carhartt represents racism today. So I can not support this video.
