Yes to mushrooms leather!

not bad for plastic!

The only "low" plastic leather alternative I've heard of is the leaf leather, which has... eh... durability issues. There's also fish leather, which still uses animals, but it is supposedly made to reduce waste in the fishing industry and/or meet the demand for exotic leathers without killing animals like reptiles just for their skin. Though the latter is also true for ostrich leather, filling in that all-important polka-dot-leather niche.

Love how these turned out!! Would you consider making an even taller pair of boots with something? And a fabric suggestion to try, old curtains maybe?

Ah man. Does that mean that mango leather Doc Martins use is also mostly plastic?

You should try Pinatex. Made out of pineapple. No plastic in the product but it has a distinct "hairy" structure.

Another great video! :) You can often hear the team speaking Polish in episodes, but it is muffled by the music, could you Please do it more „clear” to hear? I’m from Poland and I’m curious about what they say and often it’s impossible to understand it through music.

Suggestion ... not for the material but more for the craftsmen in the shop. A bunch of used and used up Converse Chuck Taylor shoes.

As others have said the colour looks great. But yeah the actual material looks like cheap boots you'd buy at walmart and have them fall apart within a few months. I wonder if there's some kind of felt that would be strong enough to hold up to being a shoe

Besides mushroom "leather" there's also MIRUM, which claims to be a fully plastic-free, low-carbon, biobased and biodegradable leather alternative. I'm curious to see you make a shoe out of that! Anyway, interesting video as always!

The boots look both clean and a bit plasticy. I love the colour. I am not sure I would see much difference between the Vegan Apple Leather and the highly patented and polished real leather that Doc Martens use. At least not until they get a bit wear on them...

I would love to see a mushroom leather episode! I've experimented with vegan leather alternatives in my arts and crafts, and you are absolutely right. The alternatives are just not as good as the real thing, yet.

Nice shoes. Some goof told me that kevlar shoes couldn't be done. I knew better. They would work good as Skate shoes.

I thought that the "fabric" (ie. the crocodile skin) would have been too think, but I guess everything goes if one has got a leather backing. Also: super cool to see other models of yours in this series.

I would rock these

I would wear those shoes without any shame. I usually dress rather soberly (when I am not going for the hobo-style), so these would be perfect for spicing up both styles. I totally agree with lining the shoes, because if you were to wear these without lining I suppose it be rather rough on your feets and socks. So thanks to the folks in the workshop for their creative take on this.

Like other commenters I enjoyed the explanation of difficulties and reasoning for doing what you did. I am not sure that there are things out there made entirely out of kevlar, but I think I have a pair of knife proof gloves that are supposedly lined with kevlar to make them so...

I also think the material isn´t the highest quality amongs those? I have had high quality retro reflective material in my hands, and it´s a lot less "glitery" like this and more "unnatural shine". It´s really hard to describe, but the high quality one appear quite off in a very fascinating way. While the less expensive ones just do that under very directed light.

Road Skin make excellent kevlar lined motorcycle jeans and hoodies for abrasion resistance. Kevlay when stablised in hard resin can be used similar to carbon fibre fo rpens, trays etc, but much more heat prone during curing. Love my Goral shoes! Once I tracked down chronic squeaking to the foam insole and swapped out, getting far more wear from them. Gorgeous in Cordovan

Kevlar is regularly used in the manufacture of motorcycling jeans. I suspect if you got hold of a pair of them, they’d make a successful pair of trainers.
