I didn't know you were here. I might start a frog channel if they don't get more love soon. After the move. I will have an entire house to turn into a zoo.
I kind of feel like the collard greens/collared lizard joke came first and you had to figure out a whole video to work that in. Brilliant! I love my Red Foot. She is so sweet and so much personality. They're great!
We had a tortoise that lived in our yard when I was a kid living in Arizona. It was a free-roamer- may have been an escaped pet. It found our yard and lived there quite happily. We used to put out bowls of food for it and it was quite fun to watch pottering about the yard. Clint isn’t exaggerating that they follow you around- this tortoise used to come out from under the deck when we were outside to say “hello”. We named it Milton. When we eventually moved, we made sure the new owners were aware of it and as a condition of the sale had to look after him. For all I know it could still be there.
Funnily enough, a Hermann’s Tortoise was my first reptile, probably not the best for a first time reptile keeper, but she introduced me to how amazing these animals really are. She’s been with me for nearly 12 years now, and since then I’ve welcomed a Leopard Gecko, Ball Python and Western Hognose Snake into my small buy growing collection. I agree in that they aren’t the most fun to keep, as they aren’t keen on being handled and generally prefer being left alone, but they are incredibly rewarding to keep.
An Egyptian tortoise is probably one of my dream pet reptiles, and their conservation status really is a shame. In the future, could you rate a newt species like the fire-belly, eastern, or alpine newts? They’ve got nice colors, interesting behaviors, and a small size wrapped up in a really reasonable package that really isn’t like any other herp in the hobby(almost like a tiny semiaquatic to aquatic lizard), yet are still criminally underrated.
This video is all facts i love my sulcata Blinky, he's my best friend and has been with me through thick and thin. He's helped me through some very very hard times and helped keep me out a very dark hole of depression and anxiety I was spiraling into. I don't know where I'd be without my buddy. ♥️🐢
I grew up having 4 tortoises and they were all named after nuts. Before I was born, our smallest one, Peanut, got out of our yard and my parents couldn't find him. About a week later he showed up literally on our doorstep :D
The very first reptile I feel in love with as a child was tortoises, in particular Testudo Hermanni Hermanni in my Grandparents garden. They will always have a special place in my heart!!
I recently started caring for a Red-Footed tortoise, she came from a neglect situation. I never really wanted a tortoise as a pet, but she has been great. I love your videos and I think it's super rad that you're educating people how wonderful tortoises can be.
Had a really rough week and today was probably the roughest of them all. The genuineness you have really shines through in your videos and always leaves me feeling more hopeful…and I am not even a reptile owner or much of an enthusiast. Thanks for all that you do, Clint.
Yes, yes, yes! We adopted a 5 yr old Greek ibera over a year ago now and just adore him. He's rather easy to keep, really. Good UVA/UVB and heat source at good temp and varied greens for diet. He cute to watch while he eats. Mylo chirps / clicks while he enjoys his warm soaks. And it's super fun to watch him explore our home (supervised), I keep an eye on him at all times because he really can move! We also just built him an outdoor 'playpen' so he can catch some summer sun on nice days. Love to see him burrow, with his little shell-bum sticking out of the dirt, as he's naturally inclined to do. Added bonuses that makes tortoises so cute, at least our little ibera, that little pink tongue 😛 and tortoise bum scoots (wiggles).
I've lived with tortoises during my entire life (I'm going to be 30 this year) thanks to the fact my siblings were given a pair of Chaco tortoises 4 years before I was born. We don't know their hatching dates (it was the 80s after all), considering they weren't hatchlings (as far as I know) the male must be around 40 years old by now, and still going strong (the female unfortunately passed away a few years ago), but the male is like having a third older sibling for me. And I will never forget the day he knocked down my mother's Christmas tree. That being said, while not threatening, they can be quite destructive. They are fond of trying to get into places they are not supposed to reach... and it's easy to forget with their slow movement that they are strong. 1:11 Poor tortoise wants to eat that banana but is getting scared from your hand movements :P
I'd love to see more turtle videos on your channel! Lately I can't keep my mind off them. I think they're really amazing, cute animals, and honestly their lifespans are a huge draw...losing dogs to old age over the years has really taken a toll on me, so much so that I almost feel like I won't be able to have them anymore. But a turtle is a pet you can grow old with! And the fact that many of them are herbivores is another big plus--I feel bad enough for the crickets and mealworms I feed our bearded dragon. So I'm seriously considering a tortoise for a pet, but I'd like to learn more so I know exactly what I'd be signing up for for potentially the rest of my life. Maybe another video on sulcatas or not-russian Russian tortoises? Or box turtles (I found one in our yard not too long ago)? Or a video highlighting tortoise rescues maybe?
I'm so excited for when I have room for a tortoise! I've kept rats for years and it seems a bit rude to feed other rats to pet reptiles if I also keep rats as pets 😅
Ive had Gophers as a kid in FL, yes I know. We released them into a wildlife reserve later when they got large. and now I have tortoises again! they are so great, easy, good with other pets and just the best. I have 2 redfoots, Willie Nelson and Janice Joplin.
Thank you for this video!! As a child we used to have pet turtles. My father likes reptiles, and so we got a dessert tortoise. I would say that they arent really the best pets for young children, (Like I was when we had turtles lol) but they are a VERY kind hearted animal usually. I have fond memories as a kid feeding mangoes to our dessert tortoise who's name was Ken. Tortoises specifically are VERY calm, easy going, kind pets. As a kid, our two tortoises named Tuckie and Ken NEVER tried to bite me, or attack me, even when I was a rowdy young child. Most important thing I would tell a new owner is, that they are AMAZING escape artists, and for this reason, unfortunate a few of our turtles/tortoises from my childhood had unfortunate ends...
I’d love to see videos on specific tortoises. Like Red foots, Aldabra, Elongated, Radiated, etc. I think that Radiated tortoises are absolutely gorgeous and would love to learn more about them. Thanks Clint!!🐢❤️🐢
Before moving to the US I had a red footed tortoise in Venezuela that I loved. I had her since I was 3 and at that time I named her something randomly woth my kid imagination: Vicky Coco. I had a small terrarium with a plate for food and another for water since I lived in a bulding and not a house with a yard. And since she was just born when I got her it was enough space for her. Remember watching movies with her by picking her and caressing her shell (sometimes to her displeasure and her telling me by peeing on me) and always giving her headpats with my finger and her even raising her mead to ask for more. For all intent and purposes, she was a dog that didn't need to go out. Ate vegetables that we had leftover from any salads or any spare fruit on the fridge and would outlive me by decades. I sadly had to let her go when I moved out of Venezuela to my cousin. I miss her and if I can't get her back atleast I've been tinking of having another one...
They're very intelligent pets and have such big personalities. I've got a 4yr old Russian tortoise that we've had since she was a couple of months old. I bought her as a present for my mum for her birthday. I've actually taught her a couple of tricks and even toilet trained her. She very rarely poos in her enclosure and when she's out, she'll do her business on a piece of tissue. I used to spend so much time with her but don't live with mum anymore, but when I did, she was always out of the enclosure with me, when in kitchen and living room. She is so gentle and has never bit me. I hand feed her all the time and have even tried it with the tiniest pieces of food and she takes it off tip of my finger with her tongue lol. I highly recommend getting one, but only one because they're not particularly that good with others, especially if you get two males.
One of my favourite bits is that they are so chill and when you said they aren’t buckets of fun that’s kind of good because they’re just so chill and laid back like Californian surfer guys like that argyle guy from stranger things and I prefer that way more than like a crested gecko or some lizard or snake speeding and scattering and skittering everywhere that just wants to go go go go fast
I remember when i was a little kid. One of the vet clinics my mom worked at had a tortoise that was massive. I remember sitting on the ground looking at this thing that was nearly as big as me.
I’d LOVE a species of tortoise but I happen to live in Australia 😩 the one country that doesn’t have native tortoises. guess I’ll settle with our beautiful pythons and turtle species 😍😍🐍 I’ve been planning to get a baby carpet python my first reptile ever by the end of the year! I’m so unbelievably excited for her it’s all I’ve been talking about for months! 😍 I’ve been doing a LOT of research to keep her happy as can be and ensure she grows into a healthy snake 😍🐍 On another note thank you Clint for your wholesome reptile content, you and the other main reptile content creators (I watch Wickens Wicked Reptiles, snake discovery and a smaller channel I think deserves more recognition gotta love carpet pythons) are so passionate and so wholesome! You exude such an excited pure energy and good intentions for your audience and the reptiles you keep. Not just that but you’ve really helped cheer me up when I’ve been going through some intense depression and I really thank you for that. you’ve given me a newfound appreciation and love for reptiles that I’m going to continue to nurture into something good and wholesome too
I've been juggling around with the idea of getting a Tortoise, and I think I might get a Sulcata Tortoise. Why not? They're easy to care for and grow into big boys/girls, and don't mind being left during workdays. Perfect pet for me.
We have a Sonoran Desert Tortoise named Alex who absolutely loves "chasing" people around the yard. He will attempt to nibble on toes if you aren't paying attention, but mostly he just likes following people around.
I loved petsitting in high school for a neighbor who had a couple a russian tortoises, they were so much fun to interact with and I was in love with both of them. also during that week I was in my french class and my teacher confidently proclaimed that she could teach us the french version of any animal sound, so ofc I asked what sound tortoises make in french. probably the closest I've ever gotten to being hit by a teacher, she was not amused lol
Wow I'm loving these videos twice a week! Thanks Clint for covering tortoises they are so cool we have gopher tortoises here in Florida and while they cannot be kept as pets everyone loves them anytime one is crossing the road cars line up to stop and help them across 😂
tortoises are best. Thank you for videos like that! I started to watch your channel because of the best pet tortoises video some years ago, and keep watching because all the exciting content about all the creatures i didnt even know existed
We've had a box turtle in our yard for 4 years now and I think turtles in general just have a universal appeal. My wife is not a reptile fan at all (unlike my daughter and I) but she loves to feed him and interact with him.
Literally watching with my little Sheldon the Hermann tortoise 😭♥️ I know I'm not meant to say it, but he's my favourite he follows me everywhere and comes to the park with me ❤️❤️
A pair of tortoises ended up being the perfect only reptiles/ pets for me. They are cute, interesting, kind of affectionate in their own way, they keep you always learning new things (cuz they are kind of DIY animals when it comes to habitats), they most likely will be with me forever because of their long lifespan, their care can be automated in alot ways in case you need to be away for a bit, and unlke some pets they don't demand alot of attention (emotionally). Although I do want to get a German Shepherd again to hang out with them in the near future.
I kept a pet American toad for the last couple years in a huge fish tank that I made into a terrarium with a metal screen lid. Unfortunately he passed away about a month ago, and since then I’ve been trying to research a new pet we could add to our family in his absence. I would _love_ to be able to get a tortoise, but my tank is 12.5” x 48” for the floor size, and 21” tall, so it seems woefully undersized for the generally accepted minimum floor size of 48” x 48”. Tortoises themselves are also a lot of money, as opposed to my chunky toad boy who was wild caught. He also loved to be handled and was such an adorable little glutton. He would eat right out of our hands. Another thing I’d be worried about with a tortoise is that it might not really like attention and physical affection from us. I’ve been looking into bearded dragons and painted agamas as well, and we always have a $7 anole or two from the local pet shop if all else fails, though we obviously can’t handle those, we’d basically just be looking at them, lol. To anyone who read this comment.. Do you have a suggestion for my family? For my tank size? Something that likes being handled and is relatively easy to care for?
I love the bloopers at the end! They are always so great, and honestly, even if I know everything that he’s about to say, in the video, I stay till the end! If you don’t like tortoises, I don’t want you in my life. Lol. 😂
I love tortoises, especially my own Russian Tortoise, Heavy. I do tell people that are interested in getting a tortoise that their longevity can be considered a downside. You’re not just getting a pet, you’re getting a lifelong commitment.
I absolutely adore and love turtles ❤️ i've got an 22 year old Reeves turtle named Hummla ( Bumlebee) and she is my big love 🥰❤️🥰❤️ and my 5 year old sons best friend ❤️ her personality is huge and she is so loving and always wants cuddles and comes up to you when you call her name ❤️ Reptiles are wonderful ❤️ all animals are wonderful and so special for every kind of spiecie ❤️🙏❤️
I'd like a tortoise version of my Eastern Painted Turtle. She is so inquisitive and is always happy to interact with people. It would be nice to have a land dwelling shell puppy in addition to the semi aquatic one. But I assume personality will vary by individual, and I may have just gotten really lucky with my turtle. Great video as always!
Great video, I have a not-Russian Russian tort and absolutely love her! I have to say as a warning though, be really careful about feeding bananas to some smaller species. If it gets stuck(which it’s prone to do) they can get beak rot. Other than that love the video and great job, I feel like tortoises just don’t get enough love.
Hey clint! I've been a long time fan of this awesome channel (I've been watching since you had around 5-6k subscribers) and i would really like to see a video on rough green snakes!
I have a gopher tortoise living somewhere in my yard. I have run across him several times, but he is NOT friendly. He's actually pretty surly. He violently and startlingly retracts into his shell and hisses deeply and loudly. Sounds what I would expect an alligator to sound like, except my actual alligator doesn't hiss at me.
I really want a tortoise 🐢😫 please cover more so I can find the best pet tortoise for meeee! I live in Southern California so not too hot, not too cold, have lots of outdoor space, would want something I can lift on my own as an adult if I needed to but want one with personality!
My husband's aunt has a 40+ year old Hermann and he is a terror- he hates shoes, we think he sees them as rival tortoises! I love him so much, and he will have a home with us if my in-laws are no longer able to keep him.
I dont remember when, but I saw a video from kamp Keenan where his Asian Water Monitor, Slinky, got out of his heated box during the winter, but he went to check the tortoises, and they were chilling in the 40 degree temps fine
I had the pleasure of experiencing both( brother wanted tortoise then realized the expense and work since we live in a cooler climate so it was left to me, i got a ball python.) I personally love handling/caring for a snake better as it feels relaxing to hold, like a massage, and once set up as an adult is less maintenance(have running filtered water so just have to feed once a week) I also enjoy that in my 20s I dont have to worry about it outlining me. Now with "my" tortoise I have to decide which lil kid get it. It is possibly the scariest choice ever since it will be a living thing.
I'd already inferred Tortoises are the best from watching Clint's other videos, even if he didn't directly say it prior to this. I just got a Western Hermann's a few weeks ago after months of binging this channel and a few others.
The lifespan is one of the main reasons I like them. I'm tired of pets that die of old age like cats dogs and bearded dragons excetra. I want them to outlive me. So I got a baby tort and I don't regret it one bit.
@@BJReolon ya I wanted low maintenance too and quiet that can't damage the area in any possible way. And a dinner plate size animal wont be heavy to move when I'm 60+ years old. Plus they look cool.
A little late when they see me walking out with my bp bragging about the latest shed and how big they've gotten. Even got asked if I'm sure I'm not the father. I tongue flicked and said nope we smell too different. No one bothered to ask if i had a frog the bullfrog is not very subtle at night. Or some mornings or the occasional afternoon. Or whenever it rains.
Hello Client! I'm a huge fan of your videos and have been for a long time. You make, in my opinion; some of the best content on reptile keeping (including birds who are technically reptiles). I recently came across the video about keeping the flying gecko as a pet. In the video, you mentioned a lizard called Draco's flying dragon. I was interested that there is such a dragon-like lizard in existence; so I decided to learn about the lifestyle of the animal. In doing so I quickly discovered that the lizard is extinct, I was disappointed, to say the least but different sources said different things. I wanted to ask you If this was true. Thank you for making awesome content, I'm thoroughly surprised that the channel hasn't hit one mill but you will get there in no time! I wish you luck!
I could watch a small tortoise attempt to eat a banana for hours.

love your channel as well 👍

I was half expecting collard peccaries to come up.
No but fr tho brilliant! Take that fkn vegans that don't eat meat bc they don't want something to die for them to feed on

We love our Desert Tortoise. Great personality. Always amazed at how fast they actually move around.
I got four minutes into this video before I realized Clint was wearing a tie.
tortoises are best.
Literally watching with my little Sheldon the Hermann tortoise 😭♥️ I know I'm not meant to say it, but he's my favourite he follows me everywhere and comes to the park with me ❤️❤️
I just binge-watched five of your videos and I have never subscribed to any channel so quickly :)
We visited Clint's Reptile Room and got to see a yellow foot and a sulcata tortoise today. Thanks Clint!!
I LOVE tortoises! I have 3 redfoots, 1 hermanns, 1 indian star, 1 leopard, and a sulcata :) They are underrated for sure.
I love the bloopers at the end! They are always so great, and honestly, even if I know everything that he’s about to say, in the video, I stay till the end!
If you don’t like tortoises, I don’t want you in my life. Lol. 😂
I have Hermann’s tortoises and they are full of character and quite sensible
I love tortoises, especially my own Russian Tortoise, Heavy. I do tell people that are interested in getting a tortoise that their longevity can be considered a downside. You’re not just getting a pet, you’re getting a lifelong commitment.
THOSE TORTOISES ARE ADORABLE!
i love reptiles keep the great content up
My mother raised me and my brothers alongside her pet Tortoise. He died when he was 25 years old and i was 20. I miss you Pancha. 😔😔
I have a red foot called browser and he is 4 years old and he follows me more then my twin boys do also 4. Love him so much.
Awesome video as always. Thanks for the share. We have just picked up our 1st tortoise last week. 👍
You could a red foot tortoise that looks similar
Great video, I have a not-Russian Russian tort and absolutely love her! I have to say as a warning though, be really careful about feeding bananas to some smaller species. If it gets stuck(which it’s prone to do) they can get beak rot. Other than that love the video and great job, I feel like tortoises just don’t get enough love.
I saw a red ear slider yesterday while mountain biking. He was so curious and expressive. I think turltes are smarter than given credit.
Hey clint! I've been a long time fan of this awesome channel (I've been watching since you had around 5-6k subscribers) and i would really like to see a video on rough green snakes!
That tie/shirt combo is hypnotic tbh
Very refreshing video :) wasn’t too long but felt like I got something out of it.
I agree and would love to see more on tortoises
I’ve never kept a tortoise, but they are quite amazing!
Based on how friendly and personable the red eared slider we took in from the road as a baby was, I can only imagine how friendly a tortoise would be.
The radist - most dang likable youtube personality out their .
So true. I definitely agree even though they are not one i keep currently
My favorite tortoise is the western hermanns tortoise very unique, rare, small and colorful.
I dont remember when, but I saw a video from kamp Keenan where his Asian Water Monitor, Slinky, got out of his heated box during the winter, but he went to check the tortoises, and they were chilling in the 40 degree temps fine
I really like tortoises i have a red foot at home love your channel and your content love to see more red foot videos
Bought me two in the last couple weeks . Been some good watchin .
I have 3 red foots and they are the best. They live outside during the summer inside in the winter.
I love my tiny Tim salcata! I love him so much so small and no problem at all
The only thing I have against them as a pet for me is that life span. Otherwise they are adorable
Just adopt an older one there are a lot of species that avg 50 60 years adopt a 35 year old and you only have to care for it for half your life lol.
The lifespan is one of the main reasons I like them. I'm tired of pets that die of old age like cats dogs and bearded dragons excetra. I want them to outlive me. So I got a baby tort and I don't regret it one bit.
@@fundyproductions5927 parrots have long lifespan and are very smart, a very good life companion. but they are not as easy to care, not even close
@@BJReolon ya I wanted low maintenance too and quiet that can't damage the area in any possible way. And a dinner plate size animal wont be heavy to move when I'm 60+ years old. Plus they look cool.
@@fundyproductions5927 It depends on the animal. Some tortoises get HUGE, over 100 pounds and they do make noise.
That tie shirt combo is it king
Hello great video information Clint
A little late when they see me walking out with my bp bragging about the latest shed and how big they've gotten. Even got asked if I'm sure I'm not the father. I tongue flicked and said nope we smell too different. No one bothered to ask if i had a frog the bullfrog is not very subtle at night. Or some mornings or the occasional afternoon. Or whenever it rains.
I ADORE tortoises! So glad to see them on the channel.
I love tortoises! I have a leopard tortoise named Theo and he’s amazing.
my favorite thing about tortoises is how every time they take a bite of something they go absolutely to town on it like they havent eaten in months
They are not extinct.
Thank you, it relieves me to know that!
My tortoise is19 years old, everyone loves him!
After a lousy day I sit in the garden and watch my leopard tortie slowly....munch away....just love her, she's so beautifully weird❤
Please do videos on axolotl and collared lizards
I love tortoises too. My neighbors have one that is super huge!
