  • After years of waiting its finally here! Here's my resto process from soup to nuts. A few trade secrets tossed in too. There are a few processes that our community deem safe, so please do some research- RUclips is unfortunately chock full of methods that can ruin your vintage iron (sanding, grinding, fire, self cleaning oven, etc).     Great job on the video totally enjoyed seeing how you refurbish them.I think the video is a really good idea it shows your customers just how much effort you put into the iron .of course we would never try it, to old . thanks for the enjoyable video

    lovely job great collection of cast iron ware they come up really well your method works brilliantly for getting rid of rust on cast iron black strap mollasas 1 mollasas to 10 ltrs water brings it up like new thats what the vintage engine guys use on there cast iron only work on steel anything like aluminium or zinc it just eats it its not even acidic

    Thanks for the helpful, concise tutorial ! I grew up using cast iron skillets. My mother kept a bit of bacon grease around to use on the pan after use.

    I use the same method with crisco but I use a grill with lump charcoal and Hickory chunks. The iron comes out black and beautiful.

    Love this! Thank you. I recently rescued 1 Griswold and 1 older 17:29 lodge from my garage. Both are covered dutch ovens and after 20 years of storage they are coming back to the kitchen.. My Le Creuset (that I thought I needed) had lost it's enamel and is shot-to the trash. $200 not quite a lifetime gaurantee! Nothing beats good old Wagner's and Griswolds-some lodge's as well cast iron pieces! Best Pot roast in the world comes from those vintage pieces.

      @vintagebilly5100 technically it does strip it down, but too hot and it gets mill scale- turns pink/gray and becomes brittle and hard to properly season

    You are the second person I heard used lye. I don't like the smell, but, I might give it a try. I almost burned up my cast iron skillet. I have to try something.
