    Mine are flopping and splitting in the middle too.
    I'm in scorching hot TN. I will split mine this fall. Thanks for the the information and demonstration.🤗🅰️+💯 Do you have any pictures of the one you split? I would love to see it. God bless you and thanks again for sharing!😁👋🏼

      Hey thanks! I’m actually going to be making another video soon. But I’ve also researched and found that over watering can also cause them to flop. They are a drought resistant plant and really don’t need much water.
      I do not have pics- but the ones I kept in my yard are doing well. Not sure about the ones I gave to friends.

    Very helpful! Our salvias look like big flowered doughnuts after the recent heavy rains and are probably due anyway for division. You posted this only a couple weeks ago with a plant in full bloom -- does that mean it's okay to dig up, split and replant now, or should I wait for a cooler time of the year when all the blossoms are spent? We're southeastern WI, zone 5a. Thanks!

    • @HomegrownHowTo
      @HomegrownHowTo  3 года назад +3

      That doughnut shape is how my big ones look as well but we’ve had no rainfall- for me it’s either wind or just too big for it’s own good.
      I did split mine during pretty hot and dry weather but the splits that I re-planted myself are doing well with new growth. If you want to play it on the safer side I’d wait until it cools off a bit. If you decide to do it now make sure to water it often until it establishes itself. Best of luck. Thanks for your comment and for watching!

      @@HomegrownHowTo Thanks! Because there are several that need splitting and they're in fairly prominent places at the front of the house I might wait, but when the time comes I feel confident in going about it. CHEERS!

    • @HomegrownHowTo

      Ideally spring or fall. If you’re still having high temps and decide to do it now just make sure they’re getting good water. They’re pretty hardy plants. Good luck!

    I read that falling over like that is a sign of not enough water or too much water or they aren't getting full sun, too much shade.

    Did it make it back before the end of the season? I have deadheaded mine over the past couple of weeks and am now afraid they’re not getting enough sun as not much sign of new flower growth yet.

    • @HomegrownHowTo
      @HomegrownHowTo  2 года назад +1

      Yeah mine have always bloomed after I dead head them. They can take a little while as they do go into a bit of shock, generally. But give them some good water and they should make it back. I can usually get 3 blooms out of them from spring-fall.

    • @HomegrownHowTo

      It did from seed. These things self seed so whenever I see a start I transplant it elsewhere in my landscape. Takes a few years to get really big but they are awesome!

    • @HomegrownHowTo
      @HomegrownHowTo  5 месяцев назад

      If you cut down to the ground after the spring blooms it’ll take until about Fall for an established plant. If you just cut off the blooms it’ll bloom again in about 6-8 weeks

    Thanks -good to know this technique when my salvia get overgrown, I think you can also divide hostas that way. I just deadheaded some salvia and I threw the spent flower heads into a sunny spot in the back garden on the off chance that they may self seed. From your experience do you think that I may get some new plants in that spot ?

    • @HomegrownHowTo

    Is Salvia the same as violet profusions & how long does it take to rebloom again after you split it up?

    • @HomegrownHowTo
      @HomegrownHowTo  Год назад +1

      Yes it is a variant of salvia. They may bloom again throughout the season, it also may be too warm to split now. So I would probably wait until fall to split them. That way it can establish through winter and thrive next growing season

      @@thatlittlevoice8292 Yes, dead serious. Such an annoying habit to have to listen to. It's not an accent. It's an odd speech pattern that has popped up for some strange reason. The first time I heard it was when a young girl from Texas was trying to say "kitten." I was lost for a second or two until I figured out that "ki'en" was actually "kitten." By that time, I had missed much of the point she was making. I've heard Brits do it as well.
      It seems sad that, at a time when we could benefit so much from better communication, this broken word pattern would rear its ugly head. Curious.
