As a foreigner living in Korea though not from the west… all my Mastercard and Visa cards work here and I’m saying credit and debit cards! Seoul is pretty much cashless compared to the the rest of the country… the only places my foreign cards don’t work is the taxi … the rules may be different for each country but for me the conversion fee is much less when I’m directly paying with my cards rather than using the atm to take out money… Also every big Korean bank has a global atm especially in major tourist areas so just use those to take out cash and most of the big convenience stores also have an atm and your master and Visa cards would work!

I really enjoyed your trip to Seoul.
The Seoul City Hall building looks very unique, right?
    There's a funny behind-the-scenes story.
In front of the city hall building made of glass, there is an old-style city hall building made of stone, which was used by the Japanese to seize and rule the Republic of Korea in the past.
It is an insulting and painful symbolic building that cannot be washed away in our history full of pain and sadness. So instead of breaking it down for educational purposes, they built a new city hall building behind it in the form of a big wave, creating the shape of the sea swallowing up this Japanese building.
What's interesting is that if you look down from the top of this old building, it's built in the form of a Chinese character symbolizing the country.
So we ended up building a wave-shaped building that would swallow up Japan.
    Isn't it cool?

What a lovely tour of Seoul - I hope you two are having a wonderful time in Korea. If you're still in the country, please try some Han Jeong-sik (traditional Korean meal/spread that features countless number of side dishes) or royal Korean food (more upscale fine dining Korean food eaten by the Kings). You can get a pretty nice fine dining experience at the top of the Seoul N Tower at this restaurant called "HanCook" - I think you'll really really enjoy seeing this side of Korean cuisine that's missed by many travelers. It's a bit on the pricier end, but it's very worth it. That and trying some quality Korean Hanu Beef (which is different from regular Korean bbq), I guarantee you'll love it. Also, please add Jeonju or Gyeongju to your itinarary if you can - these are the two places that feature traditional architecture throughout the entire city (and Gyeongju was Korea's ancient capital).

@@Steve-Owens It is not the largest religion per se but about a third of the population do report themselves to be Christian (either Protestant or Catholic) and Korea's home to some of the biggest mega churches in the world (look up Yeoido Full Gospel Church that has over 100k members... that's right 100k, lol)
and sends out the most number of Christian missionaries after the U.S.... I"m surprised you haven't encountered too many churches on your trip, seeing they are actually quite everywhere in Korea. There's also the famous Myeongdong Cathedral, which is a nice tourist spot in the middle of Seoul. You happened to visit that part of old town Seoul near Buddhist holidays, but on average Christians slightly outnumber Buddhists in all of Korea.
