Nokia was the first and ahead of it's time from it's competitors. thank you for this Video again Sir.
N9.., what an amazing phone it was.. My all time favourite.. i was literally laughing when iPhone came up with gestures recently. The developers for MeeGo were amazing as well.. I remember tweaking my phone in many ways.. N9 had true multitasking with 1gb ram, which even todays high end android or ios phones doesn't have.. Anyone have any info on where to find one in UAE? I feel like using it again after watching this video.. Thank you Abdulla Zaki for bringing back good memories..
Hi Mohamed. I think the N9 left the same impression on everyone who has used it at the time. So much regret that Nokia abandoned Meego :(. I bought it from Ebay and shipped it to Dubai. It cost me around 150$ if I remember correctly. My unit is the 64Gb black unit, which is the same as what I owned when it first came out :)
@@AbdullaZaki I will give a try on ebay. Thanks for the info. Have you updated to pr 1.3 which i think was the 3rd major update with lots of cool changes. Or the servers all down and cannot update? How about app store? Is that of any use?

Its a shame you can't really use it anymore as a daily driver.
Agree. I miss old Nokia phones so much. 5-10 years ago we had much better choice and wider range on the market than nowadays and its a shame. All present phones look nearly identical having the same specifications...
This was the start of the end of the original Nokia. Still remember how excited me and my friends were about this new Meego OS. Nokia totally miscalculated the Microsoft-Nokia deal...
Feel kinda guilty now because i really had quite a collision what to choose - n9 or one of the first Lumias. And this was so crazy and mind-blowing that i feared to take it and chose Lumia. Still liked my Lumia 800 and 1020, still regret WP failure (it was such a shame when Lumias were released by Microsoft, not Nokia), still believe 1020 was my best phone (having iPhone and Android now), but this n9 was a masterpiece. Thx for your review!
You made the more logical choice at the time as it was the future of Nokia. Still, if you have a chance to try the N9 you should. It's a masterpiece. I loved the lumia 800 at the time because of the resemblance :) btw if you liked your Lumia 1020, you can check out my camera review for it on my channel :)
Agree with many of the sentiments in this video regarding the N9. Never has their been another phone for me blended hardware and software so perfectly and it was just a pure pleasure to use. The hardware feels amazing in the hand and MeeGo like the video states just begs to be used for no reason whatsoever just to experience the beauty of the swipe based gesture UI. The only other dead mobile OS for me saddens me today as much as MeeGo is webOS but the Palm Pre hardware only wishes it was as good as the N9.
@@AbdullaZaki I still pull mine out every once in a while but it's always a sad experience for me so I try to keep it locked away with my N8 and N900, phone's that were years ahead of their time and could be enjoying the fruits of being the top OS platform like Android does now if only released earlier and under different circumstances.
I was doing everything I can to keep using it for as long as possible. Even remember using wazzapp as a whatsapp alternative at the time, but it was a struggle after a while because the apps weren't there :(
I loved that phone even I wasn’t ready to ditch it until WhatsApp stoped supporting. I still love that fine beauty. I wish they could bring a 2021 model of the same design and feel. Nokia N9 i miss you a lot. Those who never experienced it: you really missed a fine art of the time.
I still have my N9 and I charge it up and use it sometimes because the macro shots on the camera are still top notch, and it has 64gb storage, so I use it as a USB stick.
Also during the development there was a internal fight inside Nokia company between Symbian and Meegoo. This fight was one of the reasons for fall of Nokia. This reminds me a lot of my Lumia 1020
Yeah that was a real shame. Nokia could have focused on meego and moved on but the symbian team had a lot of power internally and tried their best to keep Nokia focused on symbian. The lumia 1020's design is continuation of the N9s design :)
@@AbdullaZaki Symbian had an active app store+3rd party app developers.meegoo was so radical, it was very similar to linux complied for arm chips. They could have put their energy on one OS.
Actually MeeGo had a successor: Sailfish OS. The same team that developed Maemo And MeeGo left Nokia and founded Jolla. Sadly they only released one phone model, simply called Jolla in 2013. There were plans to release a tablet and a second phone but, due to financial difficulties they never could release any physical device. Today they offer Sailfish OS as a licenced software for Sony Xperia phones and other. And because it has open source license, there have been ports for other devices also. Sailfish OS inherited all the functions found in MeeGo and was a breeze to use. They still release software updates to this day for the Jolla phone.
Nokia even produced a feature phone with a similar look OS called Asha Platform. That was my favourite feature phone OS. The Asha 501 was the one I had.
Meego was also behind the inspiration of all the later Symbian updates like Anna and Belle. But it was much better than anything running Symbian when it comes to user experience.
At the time I was wishing Nokia went full on Android and kept a modernized version of the already very familiar Symbian interface as an Android UI & skin, while taking advantage of Android's features and app universe. Then Elop dragged Nokia into Microsoft.
I had an N8 (still have and still works) and when the N9 came out I was in love with the design that Nokia did. The idea of new OS was also great since I love new and experimental stuff but where Nokia and later on Microsoft failed was to anticipate how important was to have developers work on ypur devices and...make apps. An area where iphone and android where ahead. What the N9 started, MS and windows phone could have made into a true champion of os and hardware...could being the key word.
I think and hopefully that is how Nokia brought back these designs, to see if it refreshes the boring designs that there are today. The same design as this Nokia 9 but with a larger screen.
I could be wrong but I think the main thing that makes it hard for other systems like Windows phones and Nokia phones to really succeed (besides brand familiarity of apple and android) is app support.
N9 was much advanced for it's time. It's meego os was fresh as air. Meego's successor Sailfish OS is still one of the best os today, too bad maximum people don't know about Sailfish OS. N9 is still one of my fav phones for reasons
Sailfish needs to be adopted by a big OEM in order for it to develop into a serious contender. Its also not as easy to use as Meego harmattan, which can be picked up and used by anybody.
This phone and OS was waaay ahead of its time! So sad they didnt invest and further develop this OS and Nokia lineup.. just imagine that phone design and OS would look so elegant in a fullscreen front..
The design!!!🔥.....even today that compact design is worth buying ... comeon Nokia we need a N9 remake pls 😭😭....... Iam using 4.2 .....and multitasking is lit after update..also it's compactness is what Iam looking for ( and many of us do)
The design is so unique, and definitely timeless :) Glad to hear you're enjoying your Nokia 4.2. Hopefully Nokia will release a compact 7 series device as there is definitely a market for it in the sea of giant phones.

Still after 10 years I am always looking for a phone that would have all these intuitive features and gestures. iPhone 11 has the notification screen, but that's it. No phone has been even close to the ease of use as N9. N9 had excellent navigation and combined it to great size. Today they could make it even better with the current super slim bezels and all.
I owned one. A fantastic phone. Absolutely criminal that Nokia did not move forward with this. Windows phone was not even close to this. So something was up with that decision.
I have 3 phones as daily drivers: iPhone 7 (I had a iPhone X but got water in it just by having a bath so never again I will buy a phone that is rated IP68 but has no warranty for water damage) , Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G and my 10 years old Nokia N9. Never in the history of smart phones will be another one so revolutionary for its time. It still has features that don't even exist this days on most of the phones: double tap screen to wake up, floating clock and accessing the phone, messaging, camera and browser from any app by slightly swapping upwards from the bottom. I was a bit emotional to this video you make Sir. sad fate of meego it will be the third or fourth OS playing right now if they didn't abandoned that OS. windows phone was okay but MeeGo was so advance during it's time. Nokia was the first and ahead of it's time from it's competitors.
thank you for this Video again Sir.
Glad you enjoyed it. Its truly a shame what happened to Meego
@@MhedYaseen I believe my unit is running on PR 1.2 if I'm not mistaken. You can't update automatically anymore so you will need to root the update. It doesn't work on my laptop for some reason and I haven't had time to try on the desktop. App store no longer works, and the social media feed page also doesn't work. Its a shame you can't really use it anymore as a daily driver.
@@AbdullaZaki thats bad.. :(
I had N9. The os was perfect in every way, however, there were no apps and that was its biggest problem. That was the last good Linux phone I saw.
Superb video . Just keep on posting. I am sensing potential here.
Thank you, I will try my best :)
I still have this phone.was a masterpiece .very beautiful and unusual
It truly is a masterpiece. Which color do you have?
@@AbdullaZaki black.
I watch this video again, again, again and again.....
Heart-touching voice. You made me emotional.🥺
man this video just made me feel sad .. RIP NOKIA
I bought one in 2013 and i was suprised. Best phone I used ever and a great deal. I only bought it like 180 euros brand new in cyan.
Thats a bargain. For me I had to let go of it because of the lack of official whatsapp
Nokia N9 was the best phone I ever had, made me fall in love with Nokia More than I already was
It was the best phone experience I ever enjoyed
Totally agree with you
Agree. I miss old Nokia phones so much. 5-10 years ago we had much better choice and wider range on the market than nowadays and its a shame. All present phones look nearly identical having the same specifications...
Remember how different the N9 looked compared to the iPhone 4S, Galaxy S2, etc. Now they all blend in together
Best Looking phone ever. Nokia should make an updated version of N9 now
I would love that
This was the start of the end of the original Nokia.
Still remember how excited me and my friends were about this new Meego OS. Nokia totally miscalculated the Microsoft-Nokia deal...
Very poetic. The N9 poem.
Yeah I used to be good in English literature :p
Maybe Nokia should release a N10 with sailfishos
Sir.. you deserve more than million subscribers..
@@AbdullaZaki I've already watched it, bro :) and i had a chance to try n9 and actually used it, that's why i wrote it was kinda mind-blowing.
Its truly a shame that such a masterpiece will only be remembered fondly by the few number of people that used it!
Hi, pretty good review. Have to say with time and effort you'll become another top tech youtuber in future for sure. Subscribed :)
Thanks for the sub and kind words. This is what I'm hoping to happen :)
I also had one.
Great device to use with Meego. Why it wasn't just developed further ... Then Elop came!
The camera user experience on it is awesome. Although I always felt like quality wise it was lacking
Did the supportWhatsApp?
When n9 launched i was dying to buy it but couldn't afford it 😭 now can afford but.... 😭😭😭
Try wish. They have it for cheap

@@AbdullaZaki But then comes ELOP!
They still release software updates to this day for the Jolla phone.
love your work
Nokia even produced a feature phone with a similar look OS called Asha Platform.
I hope so :)
Yes, I still can't forgive Elop for killing the nokia n9 and the Meego os.
I could be wrong but I think the main thing that makes it hard for other systems like Windows phones and Nokia phones to really succeed (besides brand familiarity of apple and android) is app support.
That is true
Nobody will create apps for a os that will only exist on a single phone. Microsoft killed the n9 that's why the phone did not get apps.
This was very modern for it's time. Things which we see them in nowadays

I still love Nokia, I could not buy this as it was not launched in India those days. I still own a nokia N8.
This was supposed to be a game changer , but it was supressed
The N8 is a very cool device. It feels like a tank!
My phones from the start to present : 5110, 3210, 3310, Nokia 5700 Xpress Music, Nokia N73 Music Edition, Nokia Asha 501, Nokia Lumia 730, and Nokia G50 5G(my present phone since November 2022) ,,,Im proud to be a Nokia User 😀
Such a humble way of speaking.
is that a genuine comment or do I sense some sarcasm? haha :)
@@AbdullaZaki sir, this is a genuine comment from my heart and mind.you can see maximum youtubers speak rapidly like "mental disorder" (apologize for this word),that's why I liked your video and last I am big fan of Nokia,my first Nokia phone was 6030 in 2004,and still using Nokia.
Again, please don't misunderstand me.thank you.
Thank you for the feedback. Really appreciate it :)
Nokia for me is not just a company it's a feeling that can only be experienced. Nokia is the only company which takes innovation seriously.
Or at least used to. Its not the same anymore.
Oh man Nokia was so ahead of it's time
Idk why but before i had this android phone, i was wondering to buy nokia n9 even it older. I love it
Nokia's build quality never matched by any other smartphone company. Proud owner of Nokia 5.1 plus
Glad to hear you're enjoying your 5.1 plus. Which phone would you upgrade to if you had the chance?
@@AbdullaZaki Nokia pureview series. But little bit expensive. And their latest budget segment phones are not good for the price nowadays. So will wait and grab one in budget segment. But I think Nokia 5.1 plus will go for another year I hope.
I would love to see a modern take on the N9. Imagine Meego kept getting perfected till now, with the hardware modernized. That would be something
Nokia N9 is a masterpiece, is art is the best phone ever made and I will always have one as a daily driver.
I totally understand you. Using it today, it still feels incredible. Such a shame Nokia gave up on it so quickly.
@@AbdullaZaki That is the problem with the world today - everything is just profits and numbers. There is no art mostly and great brands are simply killed for profits.
that design is TIMELESS! if only HMD GLOBAL would bring back that design language!
Plz comeback MeeGo 🥺
I loved that phone!! I had it dual booting Android and Megoo
