Just to throw some twigs into the fire...
In Canada, if the drone is under 250g (commercial or not), while VLOS is strongly recommended (CAR 900.06 kicks in if not having VLOS causes a potential hazard), it's not actually required. As well, the US is looking at easing VLOS rules at least for commercial use drone flights (although it's JUST under discussion right now).

Walking works to stay within VLOS if you can do so. Which if you have a large open field or similar areas works. But, they had to put this rule in place because some people will continue to fly it outside VLOS and not have eyes on it and still standing where they launched from. And if you think otherwise, let me ask you, how many times have you seen people pass in a no passing zone where you really can't see far enough ahead to safely pass?

Your video is very good. Here in Brazil, there are also many pilots who use computer keyboards, that is, they have never flown a drone, but they love to criticize those who are supposedly out of VLOS. The reality is that no one wants a drone to fly 100 meters, however, there are many irresponsible people who have no idea how to fly and with that, we, who fly consciously, are harmed.

VLOS is an outdated rule. If a waiver can be issued for a pilot to ignore a certain rule, i.e. BVLOS, then the rule is null and void to begin with. The idea of "Don't fly beyond VLOS! It's dangerous!! But if you fill out this piece of paper the right way and convince us it's not dangerous, we'll let you forget the rule" is absolutely absurd. If you had been in a position to see the drone, meaning away from the home point, the communication between the controller and the drone would have been stronger as you would have closer to the drone. Thus it would never have dropped out.

Definitely some vlos police out there. Let’s face it, fly your mini 3 pro straight overhead to 120m and ask someone to find it. They can’t because it’s impossible to see even though technically it’s 1m in distance. Also there are some prominent YTers who criticize other videos for lack of vlos.

I shoot photos for a living, and I am sometimes asked by producers, "Don't you want to move over or crouch down to get this other angle..." when they are clearly not looking through the viewfinder and seeing what I'm seeing. I'll often show them what I'm capturing just to shut down their fears that I don't know what I'm doing. I think the drone world has been ruined by the Karenification of non-drone operators and by the immensely stupid things people have done with drones to ruin it for the rest of us. being a model aircraft flyer, having VLOS means that you have full control of the aircraft and visibility of the airspace around it...if you can't see it you don't have full control...having a camera in FPV view is not sufficient to be in control of the aircraft as you cannot see the airspace around it... this is why VLOS exists...sure its ok to fly a little VLOS at times but not all the time...i would rather not get in the way of a police helicopter, air ambulance, paraglider or low flying plane...this is ehy VLOS exists...if it didnt then it is a risk to manned aircraft eho have priority in the airspace

This is all we operators seem to get these days. We are apparently not sticking to the CAA regulations yet the ones who tell us this don't even hold a CAA license nor own a drone. It is mad to see how many will jump to trying to call out a drone operator. I think we'd know the regulations pretty well otherwise we wouldn't be flying.
In terms of the DJI Fly app and it's distance parameter yeah you've proven to the ones who have never used the app that it is set from the home point location. This also sucks because I see down in the comments that some just don't post drone footage anymore because of all this.
