Thanks for the review. I have the model that proceeded this one, the foidel canyon 2, has been used in all conditions all throughout Alaska. About to buy this model, still looks great. The best option when considering strength to weight ration and ability to close in all the mesh.
Useful review, really covered all the crucial points. I have the UL3 and UL1 versions of the Copper Spur and love them for summer hiking. After something for winter and this looks like a sure contender.
It’s pretty cool tent we have used it a lot and I still take it out sometimes over my other tents. It could have some improvements but over all solid tent
Such a thorough and informative review, and great to pair it up with seeing it in action in your videos to know it works well in NZ conditions. Thanks!
Great review, considering getting a 2p tent for long nights wild camping in winter, just for the extra room. At the moment using in winter the Fjallraven Abisko lite 1. Great tent but just a little tight with winter long nights. Thankyou for sharing!
I like the way it has a footprint for fly first pitch. I wouldn't buy a tent without that design in NZ too much rain here. By the way I have left some info for you on a previous post as requested.
Yeah being able to get the rain fly up first critical. I’ll have a look for comments. You tube is useless and letting me know if there are comments and on what videos especially older ones.
You have some great photos of the tent in the mix there. I used to have a tent sponsor, I have nine tents, none of them quite so perfectly designed for arduous conditions as this one.
Great review. I’m considering buying this tent for summit camping in Scotland but I’m concerned it won’t handle winds more than 50mph. What’s your take on that?
HI Abel, the guy out loops of the inner tent to the ground look sturdy but are not adjustable. Was this never an issue when pitching the tent (e.g. on rocky terrain,...)? It's looks like a nice then though.... Best from Switzerland
It could be a problem. Personally I like having all the attachment points adjustable. It would be easy to modify and add your own on if needed. It has never caused me any issues so far though without it.
Strong wind seems to be pretty subjective. Some extreme wind I have seen on RUclips vids will probably give this tent a very hard time. I am confident in this tents ability for what I’d call normal strong winds lol. It’s pretty robust and has strong well designed materials and geometry.
The poles seem extra thick and the guy line design does a good job of distributing the force wind over the entire face of the tent. It hardly moves in the strong wind gusts I have had it in
A great tent really surprised about the flysheet 1200 mm hydrostatic head being so low and for the price you mentioned I expected a higher hydrostatic head at least a 3000 or 5000 flysheet but if you have never has no water issues then fair play wish you both all best with many more years
From my experience hh rating on the fly are kind of irrelevant. I have had this tent is some pretty extreme rain and rain with decent wind speeds. No water ever gets in.
@@AbelandVictoria cool that's very interesting to know considering your experience so far and considering HH rating on the fly plus I have never been in the weather conditions that you have been in watching your videos you definitely been in some extreme conditions and also I live in the United Kingdom England and has I've always known the higher the HH rating the better with the rain so not sure if the HH rating is different in different countries or not or if it's the same but at the end of the day is it very subject and loving the videos by the way
Planning a hiking trip to Iceland in the next 12-18 months and it's my understanding that it can be VERY windy at times along the Laugavegur Trail. Have you experienced high winds in this tent? There aren't many tent reviews that try them in very windy conditions.
Hey unsure of the wind speeds I have had the tent in. I would consider that I have had the tent in strong winds gusts and some sustained strong winds. If you are really concerned about wind I think tunnel tents design is more favourable then the higher wall dome style tent like this.
@@AbelandVictoria Yes, I've been looking at tunnel tents, but most come from EU and are a bit expensive for me to get here in the U.S. compared to Big Agnes, because I have a Big Agnes discount through the American Alpine Club. But if it's not worthy of harsh winds I may have to look elsewhere. Thanks
@@jjmcwill2007 pitching it in strong winds could be problematic also. I’d say the is strong and would handle most weather conditions but if you are going to harsh environments get a hilleberg
Cheers. Got sea to summit first. The sea to summit is good but I dont trust it if I have to camp in an exposed place higher up. It’s lovely if you can be sheltered. Victoria’s preference is the big Agnes the fully fabric inner makes a big difference staying warm.
I have the copper spur ul2 tent, it does not perform well in the wind at all. Even at 25mph winds the poles was caving in. How does this handle the wind?
Have had some pretty big gusts of wind hit the tent and it hardly moves. When pitched and all guy lines out the tent is very ridged. Seems to be pretty good in winds although because of it shape and the cross pole at the top not being a full pole extending over to the ground it is not as strong as strong as it could be.
This company has become my least favorite over the last few years. Quality control has gone down so far. On the west coast they don’t last even a year without failures. Failed zippers, failed material in the fly and tent body. For a 900 dollar tent it should last more than a few trips. To add insult to injury they do not warranty their own failures they tell you it’s wear and tear and offer you a discount on another one of their poorly made tents. I fell for this tactic twice but three tents all UL all massively failed and all within two years, it’s ridiculous. I’m a sar guy as well so it’s not like I’m new to the outdoors. Try Nemo or North Face if you want a company that backs their gear
Thank you so much for this perfectly structured review. I decided now to get it for ourselves too. :)

Nice review! Big Agnes makes some good stuff. Well done. New follower here. Crow✌️
Yeah their tents I have seen all look really nice nice I also have the skyline ul chair which is great.

Lol 9 tents. I can see myself getting a few more which would bring me to 5 total. Have you managed to get out on any missions recently?
@@AbelandVictoria no, totally nuts work and house build phase, but hoping to get up the cobb this weekend for Saturday night.
@@kanehartill4178 nice. I Think we will be going to the mole tops.
Thank you for the Great video, Would you grab this tent if you are going to be in very warm weather , above 20C or 68F
Hmmm probably not I think I’d want a fully mesh inner for that
Do you know how sensitive is the normal Copper Spur HV2 is to high winds compared to this Expedition version?
Great review. I’m considering buying this tent for summit camping in Scotland but I’m concerned it won’t handle winds more than 50mph. What’s your take on that?
It’s ok in wind but there are better tents for that. I’d suggest looking at hilleberg tents
Thanks for that.
awesome thanks

183cm I think. Tent is definitely long enough for me
