Persistently keeping Bournemouth in the Premier League (until the season they did eventually go down in, when they had a horrible injury crisis) while operating on a shoestring budget clearly taught Howe a lot about getting the best out of players you already have. Obviously he's made some mistakes along the way, but we're talking about a very good manager here, potentially a world-class one in the making.
I’m a man united fan I was saying years ago we should’ve gone for Eddie Howe, other United fans were laughing at me he’s a great coach and Newcastle are being rewarded greatly for it can see Eddie Howe lifting a cup with them in the next few years

Everyone knows City can be vulnerable at the space behind full backs, but not many teams can dispossess them in the midfield which enables you to exploit that space quick enough. Thats why what Newcastle did is even more impressive than it looks.
Not many teams can have a go like Newcastle though unfortunately. Newcastle have some serious players in Bruno and Joelinton, even almiron who was pressing like his life depended on it. I reckon you’ll see a handful of teams try that this season and get hammered 6-0.
@@celtic69 but if Newcastle got the penalty and scored any of their many chances it would have been 7 7 it was a very good game in that regard but a draw was fair.
I think to beat man city tho you have to be willing to die almost like if you just drop back and let them control 80% possession and you put everyone behind the ball they tear you to shreds. They get rattled sometimes tho when upper mid table teams and mid table teams come out challenging them. Other times like you said you lose 5-0 but I feel like you have to be willing to do that to beat them.

Not a chance Tuchel is getting sacked. Last week people were talking about how brilliant of a tactician he is, now we lose one game and people call for his head. Everyone needs to stop being so reactionary, it's exhausting. Chelsea have deep problems that won't be fixed in one window - and there's no better managers even available should we sack him.
I think Wolves manager is really in danger, since being the manager of the month in March or February, wolves are pretty bad, like they become champions league place contender to barely finish in top half. And the trend continues like it's extention of last season.
Congrats on 200k Jim. Great work. As a Newcastle fan, love the love-in for Joelinton. Other than the obvious teams, I think Wolves could be another to really cause City a few problems. The quality they have in midfield, and with their wide players so good in transition, they could exploit the narrow nature of City’s full backs. Only issue I could see is Neves/Moutinho don’t really press high, whereas Bruno and Joelinton are monsters when it comes to pressure high up the pitch, with the legs of Willock.
City fan here. The boys crumbled yesterday for about 25-min (it felt like an eternity) after their first goal when New Castle at them hard in the first half - giving away cheap balls, defensive errors over and over (Saint-M was on fire)…it started bringing back memories of Real Madrid end of 2nd leg last season. Fair play to NC for playing so well, especially Pope. Thankfully, City regained their composure. Haaland looked deadly with his runs, ability to disrupt defense and his goal was beautiful but not quite as delectable as KDB’s pass to Silva for the draw. All in all, what an amazing game! CTID💙💙💙💙
Superb game yesterday and as a NUFC fan - Haaland just looks immense. He is huge, strong and he has pace. He's going to destroy teams this season especially with KDB and Silva supporting!

He then needed to improve the defence with Van Dijk and Alisson to stop leaking goals to make the step from 4th/top 4 to title challengers but that initial step from mid table to Europe can be done just by being free-scoring rather than being the whole package.
@@nope2dat I do like that comparison in fairness. I’m just not sure we have the quality to go into games with the ‘outscore your opponent’ mentality. The flanking cms generally won't create a huge amount as they are predominantly there to cover space and funnel the ball to the full backs who are expected to create.
Michael Beale was the brains behind Steven Gerrard’s success. Gerrard was a big name brought in to attract big name players. Under Gerrard we’re going nowhere. I’ve watched every minute of Villa under SG and I can’t tell you a style or an identity that we have. Even in pre-season I couldn’t tell you what “Gerrard-Ball” looks like. He’s out of his depth. As a fan the two away performances against Bournemouth and Palace are two of the worst I’ve seen since promotion, we were utterly dominated. His obsession with pushing fullbacks forward and using our midfielders to cover them means our midfield is more open then Katie Price’s legs. I like to be level headed and sensible as a fan generally but if he got sacked tomorrow I would be over the moon. This only ends one way. This squad should be pushing top 10 comfortably. The talent is 100% there and he has no excuses anymore. I’m not expecting us to win every week but we shouldn’t be getting played off the park for 90 minutes against teams like Palace who we are supposed to be competing with. From what I’ve seen as a coach he isn’t the one and so many of our players have regressed under his management. He’ll be gone by the next international break but by that point we could be easily bottom 3 and we’re back where we were a year ago after Smith. I’d sack him tomorrow and go all out for Pochettino. His stock is as low as it will ever be, the big 6 all have managers who are comfortable bar Chelsea who he will never join. Genuinely think if we go all out and get him to the table, tell him he’ll be backed by our owners and with some of the talent we have in this squad he would be intrigued by the proposition. Long story short. Gerrard ain’t the one.
Unfortunately I think tor right. Villa fan myself. I loved Gerrard as a player and would go as far as saying he was my favourite player of all time and I really really hope it works for him. I agree he's alienated the fans, but I feel that's because many fans felt Deano's sacking was rushed. The Coutinho vs. Buendia saga has definitely had a massive impact. With Gerrard choosing to have faith that the player he knew is still inside Coutinho somewhere. But Gerrard hasn't had that long... It just feels like the squad is so good, and he's getting less than the sum of their parts out of them. Whereas other managers are getting "worse" squad's ticking. edit: Before the season I felt Gerrard needed a good amount of patience before we got rid unless things were really bad (i.e. no wins in like 10 or something). But then Mick Beale left, and I felt that really moved the goal post with how patient we can afford to be, because if we look like we don't have a good plan tactically it's possible that Beale was just too important to the team

Agree. Too many players are unsuited to this formation and their form is suffering (Konsa, Mings, Ramsey, even Martinez). Smith deserved more than 11 games to oversee the post Grealish changes and had injuries to deal with too
That was such a tough watch as a Leicester fan seen that game play out the exact same way so many times as soon as the team comes under pressure they just fold and I’m not sure Rodgers can fix it
As a Chelsea fan, Leeds pressed very well, especially their midfield. They deserved the win and you are right that they won it by winning the midfield. But the notion of selling Gallagher because he played poorly in his first start in the double-pivot is a poor take. Imo that was more of a baptism of fire for Gallagher's first début than was expected, but selling him based on one game is very myopic to consider. He might be repositioned with the front three , sorta like mount is now but to just give up on him is not the best way forward imo.
Absolutely spot on with Leicester, this hasn’t even been the three games this jadedness has been happening for the last 18 months here & our plans to hold out for wins go out the window after 70 minutes
As a Villa fan. We are utterly demoralised by SG’s tactics. It’s clear how to play against us and we’ve suddenly stopped buying Up and coming players vs buying expensive so called ‘finished articles’ Gerrards tactics are to blame and losing Michael Beale is exposing how bad SG actually is as a coach. Fans are on the verge of turning as this has been happening for 20 games or so.
Arsenal did exactly that last season and almost beat Man City, but for a foolish penalty and sending off. Saka and Martinelli were a constant thorn in their sides.
Liverpool fans having being saying for the last couple years that teams would have more success against City if they just tried to attack them for once instead of rolling over for City. Newcastle basically mirrored Liverpool's style from last season with one full back high with the winger on the opposite side playing high.
As a city fan I was worried about West Ham as the first game considering we’d had very little pre season and thinking West Ham at home would go for it, but instead they just sat back and let City control the game and gain confidence, very weird.
It’s ridiculous.. City played bad and still had more chances.. city could have finished it in first 10 minutes itself .. Ederson started picking up front 3

You deserve it for all your great work so far and long may it continue.👏 My summary from gw3 Rodgers looks demoralised and I think that a change needs to me made there.Gerrard is relatively knew to the job at Villa and he needs time to bed in the players he has brought in. I agree he needs to change his tactics, as they're far to easy to play against right now. As for Tuchel, he is playing a few players out of position and although there is talk of a new contract, the new owner will not tolerate any more results like this and will be expecting at the very least top 4 finish with the backing Tuchel has been given this summer. Eddie Howe, Potter,Marsh & Viera deserve praise for the football that there sides are displaying so far this season, it's great to see sides take the game to the so called bigger teams and make a game of it. You are absolutely right about Joelinton. Maxi had an unbelievable game but it’s Joelinton along with the combative and athletic nature of the midfield that gives him that platform. Maxi not tracking back is also his defense because he needs to be respected on the counter. If you leave him one on one with Stones or Dias, he will win those battles all day.

Unfortunately I can’t see that happening and agree with you think he’ll be gone by Xmas especially if he don’t change this stupid system he plays
@@danielhughes7228 I don’t have any faith in him to change it.
@@sunilsalh what confuses me is why he went in for sarr. That kinda tells me he may change it up. I hope so
@@danielhughes7228 Sarr suggests a move to a 4-2-3-1 but with that falling through I don’t know where we are now. We need a CB and 8 and if he wants to go 4-2-3-1 a pacey winger
@@sunilsalh we are crying out for some more support in the centre of the pitch i agree I think we need a big strong number 8 and a centre back. Anything after that is a bonus in my opinion.
After 13 years, Brendan Rodgers still can't set up a defence to save his life.
Great channel, no gimmicks no shouting and no bias. Just well thought out intelligent analysis 👏
Gerrard has alienated the fans and destroyed the chemistry Dean Smith created in the squad. The quicker we sack him the better
Could you explain what he did to allienate the fans? I don't follow Villa too closely.
@@WillishBroadbino I think the two up top doesn't work, need to play coutinho and buendia
@@JohnFarrellDev The way he spoke about Mings after the first game, which he didn't play in, was bang out of order. Mings is popular, both to fans and in the dressing room. That's the main thing.
Agree. Too many players are unsuited to this formation and their form is suffering (Konsa, Mings, Ramsey, even Martinez). Smith deserved more than 11 games to oversee the post Grealish changes and had injuries to deal with too
Congrats on 200k James, well deserved.
Newcastle was superb just wack of quality substitution City r lucky not to get 4-5 goals in 1st half
That was such a tough watch as a Leicester fan seen that game play out the exact same way so many times as soon as the team comes under pressure they just fold and I’m not sure Rodgers can fix it
200k potential people/customers/fans on your RUclips. What a business you’ve created for yourself James mate. Well done
Congratulations on the 200k Jimbo. Thoroughly enjoyed your content of late and great to see your fanbase growing. Much love
Plays a blinder every single week, so consistent!
Huge congrats for 200k, been watching since the Euros last year and hooked ever since!
Congrats on the 200k!! 🎉🎉 We can only move forwards!
Dare you to compare Newcastle to Real Madrid with Vinicius!! Love The Newcastle fandom on this channel
Congrats on the 200k, Jim! 500k will take half the time...
Congrats on 200k Subs James! Heres to 300k! 🍺
Congratulations on 200k Jim, excited for your World Cup coverage. We can only move forwards
Great idea to make a video about pressing, keep the good work up Jimmy!
I'm not willing to assign any blame to the Beale thing. We were crap when he was here too. Agree with the rest though
Arsenal did exactly that last season and almost beat Man City, but for a foolish penalty and sending off. Saka and Martinelli were a constant thorn in their sides.
Exactly
Tookel is a massive shout for being trouble the amount of attackers that have regressed underneath him is unbelievable
Teams tried to attack city during the 100pt season. Truth is, teams get beat by city no matter how they play. Show me one game where a team "takes it to city" and I'll show you 10 where those teams lose 4-0
@@freefallingband I wouldn’t expect teams like Bournemouth to take it to City because they would get torn apart. But I see no reason why any team in the top 10, the likes of Brighton, Palace, Newcastle wouldn’t have a go
@@freefallingband what about spurs?
You can reward and give back to us with a fleet services meet up 😏
Where do you get your xg numbers from James? I've seen nothing but city being at least a goal ahead of Newcastle on xg.
3:09 Jimbo is getting more Dutch by the week and I'm loving it
Bang on regarding Gallagher, Imagine him in that Leeds or even Newcastle midfield yesterday..
Bro him as a wide attacker with Adams and Roca backing him would be unfair.
He would be perfect at Liverpool or any high octane type team
@@johnnywilson3071 🤣🤣🤣
I'll start by saying congrats James on 200k subs. Long may it continue.💪
Congratulations on 200k 🏅
Well done for hitting 200k mate!! 🔥🔥👍🏻
I love your studio james. I am in Canada and I want to do something similar for our basketball team here. I'm learning a lot from some of you. Your set up is just so lush.
Gerrard is playing the wrong midfield - McGinn is great hard worker but Douglas luiz was evidently better and more dynamic when he came on. Up front is abysmal aswell. Need an actual striker
Congrats in 200k. Been onto you since u were first on the kick off! Keep moving forward
It has happened both times this season against Liverpool. A quick counter into space vacated by Trent has result in a converted penalty by Fulham and a goal by Zaha for Palace.
I know kiaran turner

Excellent analysis, as always 😎
First time here. Great content mate! I’ll be tuning in on the regular from now.
West Ham fans, enjoy your week, safe in the knowledge, that you've got Villa on Sunday.
Worth noting Southampton's side was the youngest Premier League XI in 5 years and was very mature at the back. 0 shots conceded from open play.
Huge congrats on 200k Jim, well deserved!
Question for ya -
Would you look to start doing previews for the upcoming game weeks, possibly with predictions on you think it'll go?
"look how high he is during the game" 😂🌿

How did you not mention Lampard when discussing soon to be sacked managers?
You are absolutely right about Joelinton. Maxi had an unbelievable game but it’s Joelinton along with the combative and athletic nature of the midfield that gives him that platform. Maxi not tracking back is also his defense because he needs to be respected on the counter. If you leave him one on one with Stones or Dias, he will win those battles all day.
Eze is back to his best, so exciting to watch. Qatar bound
Congratulations on the 200k Jim, you deserve it more than any on this platform.
Can you please tell Flav to stop breaking into my house to fill my shoes with slugs now, the wife will notice eventually.
I doubt Gerrard will get sacked first. He's Purslow's vanity project. Maybe it will be for the best and he'll turn it around but Villa look lost.
From what I saw so far, Fulham and Leeds can duplicate what Newcastle did.
Notha good breakdown, imma sub and stay for a bit, you’ve got some ball knowledge hey
As a Man City fan, I beg all the other teams to try and come out and attack us. See how well you get on
