    Hi markus! I just discovered your channel and I've been on a binge for the last few days. Your videos are so good! Tons of great actionable information. No commercials disguised as reviews. No padded run time to stuff in more ads. It's so nice to see someone respect their audience. Thought I'd comment on your latest video to help give it a bump with the algorithm. Thanks so much. Your videos have been really valuable to me!

    I guess that movement activation would be useful in some niche scenarios where you want to get video of wildlife. Zoom into a bird nest and such. It's also protected from the weather. And if it gets stolen you don't lose a fortune.

    It does have some cheap drawbacks but an underwater cam for 150 bucks is an incredible deal.
    Does it shoot 24fps? That could make it a great "stunt cam" for low budget movies.

  • @LTPottenger

    It's really a good deal, especially considering it can go underwater. It can also be used for loop recording and used as a webcam and to take interval photo. That might make it a security camera that is actually useful unlike those ring things and everything else I have tried. And it looks like it may be good enough and record long enough for talking head videos that look decent.

    Would have been more useful to see the underwater capability in action rather than the comparison to 2 cameras we know you like. The Minolta’s party trick is that it can get wet, if it can do that well, it’s worth the money.

    My first camera was a minolta in 83-84. I loved it. Now I have an older micro 4/3 lumix . I thought Sony bought minolta could be wrong, though. It may be a good snorkeling video camera. It could be fun just to watch people freak out when you go underwater with it. I use the lumix dmc- ts30 for underwater shots. Paid 20 dollars for it. Brand new. She got it as a gift, didn't want it.

    Minolta also made some pretty funky point n' shoot cameras in the 2000's, such as the DiMAGE F-series (like the F100 as I have one myself) which were some of the first to feature tracking AF, the X-series square box shape point n' shoots, A-series SLR-style bridge cameras, and they also made the DiMAGE V in the late 90's, which you can separate the lens from the camera body, and attach it with a cable. They made some wicked stuff!

  • @russellzauner
    @russellzauner 9 месяцев назад

    I'd get the Minolta just to throw in the bag going to the river; spilling things won't hurt it and if you've had an underwater camera (had a little pocket one that was super great for underwater shots like 20 years ago, wish I could remember who made it) the novelty never really wears off, for me at least. The kids have a hoot with it too!

      I believe Konica Minolta discontinued making cameras in the early aughts and sold the rest of their SLR camera business to Sony. In 2017, Elite Brands Inc. bought the name “Minolta” and started basically slapping the Minolta branding on cheap Chinese made cameras. Konica Minolta on the other hand still makes large copying machines/printers and digital press ranges.

      Correct. Sony acquired Konica-Minolta’s digital camera division, which is why Sony’s first digital SLR cameras used the Minolta A mount lens standard. That said, Konica-Minolta still had the rights to the Minolta name, which they apparently sold to another company.

    As others have mentioned,,,Sony bought out all Minolta imaging properties around 2008..which were already owned by Konica...whew. I was selling cameras all throughout all the late 70s to mid 90s.. Although they didn't have the Canon, Nikon name recognition,, they were actually a near premium brand and were the first to come out with several bits of tech like practical autofocus,, wireless TTL flash, 1/8000th sec mechanical shutter speed and flash sync at that speed too. They had great several great lenses too,,I still have a 100 2.8 macro I use with a mirrorless Lumix. These guys are just renting the name (not even the logo),,just like the companies that use Bell and Howell to market cheap gadgets.. Still.. I was surprised that this camera did so well.. Great test!!

    This might be good for a project I am currently working on -- underwater video in a local creek. Not deep, but obviously a waterproof camera is a must. However, the stabilization quality is poor, and that could be a deal killer, requiring stabilization during the edit.

      Konica-Minolta was purchased by Sony a long time ago. The "Minolta" name was recently purchased by a Chinese company call "Elite Brands." They have started slapping the name on heaps of generic cameras and camcorders of varying quality and selling them all over the place. Many of them are absolutely identical to the no-name or oddly named, generic camcorders that are all over Amazon, etc. That's why it feels similar and has a similar start-up noise to the other generic cameras Markus has there. It's almost certainly made by the same company, but has had the Minolta name put on it.

  • @glsracer
    @glsracer 29 дней назад

    With a used CX405 selling for double or more the original price, it's sad to see that basically all of the cheaper camcorders are now this sort of high megapixel fixed optic type. They could probably get smooth digital zoom if the increased the processor power to handle the scaling but then the price would go up. I ended up buying one of the last JVC camcorders made for the Japanese consumer market when I was in the market but I've wanted a cheap camcorder for my kid and the lack of OIS or IBIS in these cheap ones is a deal killer. You could always stabilize in post (with a crop) but how many people are going to do that for kids footage?

    Interesting that you mentioned it has the same startup sound as the other cheap Chinese camcorders. I suspect that the only thing Minolta about this camera is the name. Minolta, sadly, got out of the camera business several years ago, which gave Sony its intro into the DSLR market, which it took off with to lead the mirrorless market. Seems that some no name manufacturer is licensing the Minolta name now, but they can't license quality.

    • @bigtb1717

      Yeah, a Chinese company called "Elite Brands" licensed the Minolta name and is putting it on seemingly every generic camera and camcorder imaginable. Almost overnight, "Minolta" seems to have about two dozen different "models."

    Not so shabby for Minolta camcorder. My parent brought 35mm film camera from Minolta back in 90's which is good cameras I played around back in high school these days. It was 3rd upgrade cameras but before it was Kodak Disc film unfortunately Kodak got sued from trademark patent in the later 80's and no longer made. It goes back in the rolls of film. In my childhood, first glance of my parent's cameras was Polaroid and Kodak instamatic cameras look like same made as Polaroid did. Don't shake the Polaroid as you pulled out of the cameras. 📸

    I have a cheap QVC special MN260NV ( night vision) camcorder that works surprisingly well, comes with only USB to PC cable, no HDMI to TV. Also have "Minolta" MN50HD, not good. These Minolta cheapies are Chinese made, and sold through Elite Brands in New York.

    Someone may have pointed this out already, but it isn't Minolta. It's some generic company renting their name - that's why they seem very much like the generic cameras.

    Given Minolta was bought by Konica in 2003 and then Konica Minolta was bought by Sony back in 2006, and is where Sony got a lot of their modern DSLR/Mirrorless camera tech, including AF, I find it ironic that a camera branded as Minolta, but is likely just a cheep Chinese counterfeit is being compared to a Sony which is actually the real Minolta rebranded.

    $150 seems expensive but its watersealed, if only other camcorder is watertight.

    The Panasonic is much much better and worth 3x more.😊 However they are about £350 in the UK with 20% tax included. So only about twice the price of the Minolta.

    They bought the name, nothing to do with the real Minolta, been using a JVC one ok down to 15ft, it is only HD but does have optical zoom , is great for filming in the rain, I have used it in heavy rain on several out door films.

    Minolta was far better than brands you mention and produced absolute top cameras in late 80 up to end of 90ties. As a camera fanatic do yourself a favor and find Maxxum/Minolta Dynax 9XI with XI lens and review it for yourself. Still the fastest open market analogue camera ever made with 12000/ sec exposure time. At that time (1992 or 3) i could choose Nikon D90 (moronic three switches to go from full auto to full manual), Canon Eos5 (cheap plastic bajonets and useless eye focus) both with ground braking functions but i chose 9XI for its very progressive thinking and functions and i never regret it. All operations controllable without taking it off your eye. It was so advanced that traditional photographers were baffled with it and that was its downfall. It is still the best and most progressive analogue camera ever made. Check yourself!
