Nothing moved forward nor backward, I felt no motivation to practice whatsoever and thought I hit a road block in my skills (early intermediate you could call it). Then Uni started and it became really busy for me. Then my girlfriend quit. At this point, guitar was my least concern and I even didn't really do much for Uni until close before the exams. This time was the most stressful, emotionally draining, depressing and exhaustful time of my life. But it was also the time I discovered your videos and also the ones of similar artists like Emil Ernebro or the amazing Tommy Emmanuel. I also discovered Brandon Acker and gradually developed a refined taste in (old) acoustic instruments and Classical music. It made me listen to so much pieces and the fulfilment felt endless. Some time in I thought to myself (rather jokingly) that someday I'm going to buy a classical guitar and play all of those beautiful pieces I hummed with my mouth and that kept stuck in my head. Then you did the videos on Francisco Tárrega and Barrios. I was comitted, especially to Tárrega. I didn't know him yet, but the unbelievable beauty of his pieces lit up the fiery desire inside of me to play every single piece by him that has been published. And now we're here at 6 ½ years, me playing classical guitar for like 4 months and learning new repertoire pieces on a weekly basis, sometimes practicing for hours every single day and sucking up several different books containing notes, technique advise and music theory like a sponge with a daily hunger to buy more (I study computer science, so I can afford it, fortunately). It makes me feel things I had forgotten from my life, that I only remembered from memories when I just started out playing the guitar and making little step-by-step, yet steady and joyful progress. It even affected the discipline, effectivity and motivation for my Uni studies a whole lot. Never have I ever made so much progress in such little time, feeling so dedicated and fulfilled along the way and this is also partly due to the enjoyable content you have been making and that I'm so happy to watch. Thank you very much for your efforts; and many delightful greetings from Germany, Lucas Brar! 🇩🇪
After watching this, my husband and I who have been playing together for 30 years or so, just had the best rehearsal of our lives. We started out in a band together in our 20s and went through blues rock jazz and finally landed on gypsy jazz. I feel so free to enjoy it now thank you so much. Ray and Linda Gypsy moon.

My sons - 8 & 6 - just started playing classical guitar 2 months ago. I will definitely show them your inspirational story - great video! I hope they will also learn to enjoy the journey and dedicate themselves to the love of making music like you
My favourite clip from the moment I heard it was Lucas at 14 playing Django, then he took a crazy tour through the rigid ways of classical music and then came back to where he started. The same place but now with all those mad classical skillz!! What a story captured on video, awesome!! 👏👏
Awesome story Lucas, big fan of yours since the early days. Talent & passion always find a way of piercing through the noise. Very happy you were able to make a living playing guitar, very deserved. I know this is a huge undertaking but I think a standards album of your arrangements would make your fan base super happy, and who knows maybe be a hit on Spotify
This is now a requisite for my music students to watch. Thank you for visualizing what words can not and putting an understanding into what makes a musician...passion + practice = perfection (no matter how many notes are not played well!)
this made me so happy to watch your amazing progression over the years in many things, musicial talent, charactor, education, your youtube career, and even your hairstyles... loved this! keep it up my friend.

I have seen myself in your passionate first steps with music. Unlike you, I didn't have the guts to pursue my dream and I'll never forgive myself for that. So, now I admire you a little more. Really, congratulations and keep doing stuff. I love your sense of humor too.
You must be so happy that you have this footage of yourself as you started out young and went through the years. I know I’m happy to see your evolution. It’s just so remarkable refreshing and inspiring! I am almost 68 and just working on the level six exam for CGCA I’ve been playing for Over 40 years, and still A beginning and intermediate, but finally have the time to be studying with a good program. I love watching all your solo work I prefer to play in community either ensemble or duet etc. but there’s always the occasion where I will need to play solo especially at exam time. Your videos are refreshing you’re an out-of-the-box thinker!
this is such a wholesome post considering i've been subscribed to you for almost 2 years. Seeing your video of "Autumn Leaves in 10 levels of difficulty" i was completely blown away. Thank you Lucas you're truly an inspiration to me and giving me to motivation to practice (as a classical guitarist myself) i wanna be as versatile as you.
This is such a brilliant idea! It was really fascinating, and quite touching actually. I was especially moved by your appreciation of the support you’ve received from others and how fortunate you were to grow up in a country that nurtures the arts and provides education. This video shows how hard you have worked, and how much you value the support you’ve been given. On that basis l think if anyone deserves to make a living in music it’s someone like you. I wish you good fortune in your life Lucas. Love your playing too! 👏
May I say congratulations too you , for following your passion in life . For showing that it takes dedication , commitment and hard work , to truly master anything you wish to achieve . I'm fed up of 5 min zelebrities , who are treated as though they are special , simply because they are willing to make fools of themselves on TV . Now more then ever , we need inspirational figures , who represent the true meaning of dedication . You will never stop learning , or developing as a musician or human being . I hope your channel inspired many new musicians to follow their own dreams .
Im in my teens and been playing classical guitar for 2,5 years. Just got into a music high school and are really enjoying it. I’m just like you, only I live in Norway. Keep on Lucas, you inspire me a lot, and are probably the best guitarist I know. You also give me a lot of motivation to practice guitar, so thanks for that. Love from your neighbours
3:00 Can't believe how good of a tone you had developed already here for "Minor swing" compared to the two previous clips. Amazing to see this journey. I just watched my dad's films of me as a kid for the first time. Can really see how into music I was already as a kid. With a surprising understanding of rhythm already then. I hope all artists (in ant field of artistry) take time to revisit and remind themselves of their immense journey from their humble beginnings and then see where their passion(s) have taken them.
This is a wonderful share Lucas, I recently started to ponder the concept of "enjoying the journey" and is much more profound as it seems. We are often too much obsessed in "where" we are going without thinking instead of "why"? It is almost impossible to answer to the first question, or at least, doesn't make much sense, while to the second is much simpler: we love playing and we should do regardless.
This video is truly, truly amazing, Lucas. Thank you so much for taking the time to make it and sharing it with all of us. So many valuable lessons here, from the importance of good parenting (I have two daughters myself) to discipline and love for one what does. I remember seeing that video on Mattias' youtube channel and immediately falling in love with your playing. Anyway, thank you for sharing your talent and passion and creativity with all of us mere aficionados!
Your discipline in the pursuit of mastering the guitar is truly inspiring. You show what it takes to rise to your skill level. Love your videos and your playing.
Thanks Lucas for sharing your journey! It's so much dedication and sacrifice... I do not have so much in me, but musicians bring so much joy and nuance to people day to day. It's why I want to continue playing. Thanks for the inspiration!

What a treat this video is. I love "Come Home," that first song you wrote. I love hearing you play "Moon Glow," and Barrios is an old favorite from Jason Vieaux's "Guitar Recital" album. Knowing how much time you spent focused on guitar, I wonder how you developed your voice alongside it. You are a great singer as well. Congrats on your journey. I think when I tripped over your channel you floating between 7,000 & 8,000 subs. I couldn't believe you didn't have more. And of course, now, here you are.
I have watched this video several times now. I am a 15 years old and I've been playing guitar for almost 4 years now, and I'm just grateful for the existance of your channel, grateful for your work. It inspired me to try going along the journey of learning and improving everyday on the instrument, to discover music of all kinds and basically fall in love with classical guitar. I have a long way to go, obviously, but I drop tears everytime I rewatch this, music is the most beautiful thing to ever exist, and seeing the path you took and the shaping of you as both a musician and a kind and great person. Just wanted to thank you, cheers from Brazil!

Thanks for posting this. It was fun to watch. It was also informative and centering for an older guitarist getting back into classical. Loving to learn is my true passion. Setting realistic expectations is important for me to stay motivated and happy. You’re amazing experience and story has helped shed some light on my own path and choices.
Ok ... I began 2 years ago and it already seems that you learned twice faster than I do. At this rythm, I could hope to reach your level in 50 years (if i work much more than i do), right ? I'll be 97 !!! I think that i'll humbly continue to mistreat my guitar and listen to you when i'm in need of real music. Thanks for your work and humour ;)
Nice and inspiring! Mats Bergströms recording of Bachs Sei solo pieces is what finally made me ”get” classical guitar. Cool to hear you studied with him!
A video that shows how much sacrifice is made and how many hours of dedication. Congratulations, you are a sensational guitarist. Now there are two videos left: the first one playing this keyboard that appears in the back and another introducing the family
Thank you for your story. I started playing at 13 when I saw how my father, a professional guitar player, was teaching his students and how much joy they had. Sadly, I didn't do my best to take all I could from him while it was possible :( I played the guitar more for fun and usually while a computer game was loading... The only time I learned and practised something hard was when I discovered Bohemian Rhapsody in Edgar Cruse arrangement 12 years ago :) But 1.5 years ago, at 33, I made a decision to play and exercise deliberately. So since then I play every day. 562 days so far :) Maybe not as deliberate as I wish, but way more consistent than when I was a kid. Learning pieces I want and find challenging. Just finished learning Autumn Leaves by Yenne Lee, and you saying that you could spend a year on polishing a melody makes me feel relieved as I don't need to perform the way you had to, so I could be satisfied with 'good enough' :) but it also makes me appreciate your and other professional guitarists dedication and hard work. Enjoying your channel a lot. If you decide on another video about amazing guitarists, I'd suggest you take a look at Maxim Chigintsev (Максим Чигинцев). For example his 'Concerto pour une voix' or 'Pogonya' (Погоня) which I found tremendous joy learning :)
The first video of yours I saw was the Rick and Dylan Beatto video and I laughed for 20 minutes. I was hooked. Your sense of humor and ability to communicate is almost as good as your musical talent. I am now your biggest fan and am so glad you are making a living doing what you love. Cheers!
Your 14 year old Django is fantastically good. Trying to think of your current jazzing is better. I dunno… that was hard to beat. It’s free of the excessive artifice of experienced players. I’d buy his record.
Oh wow. I love your videos but this one was the first that I felt compelled to comment on. So inspiring and impressive and very well put together. Thank you for taking us on your journey!
I'm halfway into your journey and there is nothing that has inspired me as much as your 3 year progress did. Kudos to your skill achievement, there is renewed sense of hope now towards practicing.
It semmed to be a hard journey, full of good, bad, obsessive times, frustration and success. It is great to see you finally found yourself a way to reach happiness. Thanks for sharing your music, for your work and your lifetime story. Keep jazzin´! Albert M.
What an inspirational story about striving and overcoming oneself. I'll take your quote "There is no way you'll ever get to the end, so enjoy your journey". Thank you for your work and for making music your own way of life. God bless you brother!
The world of music (and art in general) seems like a wild place. Sometimes, you just lose track of your dreams because of expectations and the urge to be successfull. You stop having fun, and it becomes a compulsion, an obsession that kills you from the inside. But then you meet new people, you feel inspired again, and the joy of learning something new and trying to master it just comes busting, like the very first time you touched an instrument. As if we were coming back to our child self, who will always be inside of us, and that's why art is liberating - it's the childplay of grown-ups. It's just so beautiful. And why is the world of art so connected to that of fame? Maybe we all need someone to play with us, to hold our hands and lead the way like our parents did (or should have done). That's just to say, this video made me really emotional. Tack så mycket!
Omg, I can't believe you made this with my comment and of course my comment is not a big deal, I'm just happy and surprised that you've noticed the comment and made video out of it.
Thank you very much for your efforts;
and many delightful greetings from Germany, Lucas Brar! 🇩🇪
This was so nice to read, im happy I could inspire you on your Journey! 👍
After watching this, my husband and I who have been playing together for 30 years or so, just had the best rehearsal of our lives. We started out in a band together in our 20s and went through blues rock jazz and finally landed on gypsy jazz. I feel so free to enjoy it now thank you so much.
Ray and Linda Gypsy moon.
just shows you no matter who you are if you put time into an instrument you can become a mastermind
Shows nothing of the sort.
a... mastermind??
I think you used "mastermind" wrongly
@@jaketheodore6070 well not everyone re harmonise like that it’s extremely difficult
I don't think you know how cruel this world can be my friend
Brilliant. I suspected you were a classical monster and there’s the proof! Love your jazz arrangements and congratulations on being able to support your family as a RUclipsr!
Inspiring man! Thank you for sharing Lucas
also Django Reinhardt after 4 years of playing?!?! Deserve every success! Music is in your veins
As an audience, we don't realise enough what impact a "follow" can have on the video makers. This is talent and hard work, Lucas. Amazing job and congratulations, from the bottom of the heart as well.
My sons - 8 & 6 - just started playing classical guitar 2 months ago. I will definitely show them your inspirational story - great video! I hope they will also learn to enjoy the journey and dedicate themselves to the love of making music like you
So glad to hear that! Say hello from me:)
I guess that is the best inspiration and motivation they can get. Good luck!
Congratulations for your journey. Hope you come to Brazil one day
This is now a requisite for my music students to watch.
So lucky to live in this era to me, maybe if it wasn't for the internet i would haver never listened to such an amazing musician as you are.
Thank you and good luck.
Hugs from Rome!
Watching your journey was a completely wonderful experience! Thank you for putting it together and for your inspiration.
1:48 that's actually a pretty good Death metal song lyric 🤣
What an amazing and hard journey, Lucas. I'm happy that everything ended well for you and your family. You're one of my favorite guitarrists by far and a huge inspiration that made me love and choose the classical guitar :)
You're among the most entertaining, passionate, authentic and accomplished guitar teacher on youtube. Thank you
He's the most wholesome!
We are not related to each other but I'm so proud of you man. The years of hard work and pain paid off! Your originals sounded amazing, would be lovely to hear an album of your compositions and singing some day
Lucas, I would like to say that you're a true inspiration to me. I'm 15 and I have been playing for about 3 and a half years, but I wasn't satysfied with my progress at all, but after watching your video, I realized that I should take things more paciently and have fun while playing. Thanks for the loveble content😊
Hello ! I have the same struggle like you, didn't statisfied enough with my progress 🤣
Im also 15, and at for now I playing guitar for 1.3 years. All that i can play is this ruclips.net/video/9eNbEfb_d-o/видео.html
All of guys here saying like just relax and enjoy what you doing, but i really depressed that Im playing thst bad compare to anybody. Don't even want to play guitar 😔
Best motivational video ever ! Incredible
I thoroughly enjoyed that video charting your life as a musician, it was very emotionally moving.it just goes to show that its not at all about being famous and rich it shows to me the hours and hours of practice you put in locking yourself away from the world to play the music you love deffo comes with a price That price has paid off your videos are brilliant I watch them all your playing is jazz fantastic and I wish you and your family all the continued success in your life’s . I applaud you for all your efforts 🙌🏻👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 and look forward to your next chapters of your musicical life
You deserve the best, Lucas. I hope you see your daughter grow up happy and healthy. Hugs from Granada, Spain.
Lucas, with this video I've learned that you are, not only a magnificent musician but a generous, sensitive and incredibly inspiring person too.
I love your videos, keep going. Hugs from Brazil.
I really cry on this man , really a journey very deep and inspiring
You rock dude. I'm genuinely happy for you- earning a living doing what you love, and I really think you deserve it!
Thank you very much 🙏🙏
May I say congratulations too you , for following your passion in life .
Really happy to hear that Jonas! Keep it up!!
That's awesome. I am so glad that all those years of dedication literally paid off in the end. You are a phenom player and a great inspiration.
That is so touching to see the way how your family inspired and supported you becoming a musician. They must be very proud of you.
You are a great musician and a great inspiration to many. Your path is admirable. Many congratulations, everything in the end has its reward.
People don't realize how difficult it is to be a trained musician and how little payback it receives. Congrats on the channel, you have a new subscriber here.
Beautiful story, I'm really happy RUclips exists and we can enjoy listening to passionate people like you.
I got moved, sincerely. Especially at the end, when you duet with yourself 15 years old. Congratulations!
Beautiful video. You’ve had a great journey so far, but have a lot more to contribute. Looking forward to seeing your playing at 30,000 hours.
This is really inspiring! And it's awesome to see the teachers being recognized!
It was so exciting to follow all the way! From a sweet child to the wonderful musician and the talented artist.) We love watching your videos over and over again! 👏👏👏
You are just Fantastic !!! I loved this personal account of all the work and diligence you put in and how you didn´t give up in hard times . I´m so happy that RUclips can provide a living for great artists like you !!! Thank you Lucas
That explains a lot! I'm glad that you haven't stayed a strictly classical player. That's why I'm a subscriber & have the notification bell set for "All", so that I don't miss things like this. Thanks my friend (that I've never met).
Incredible video. Wasn’t expecting such a powerful video from a guy that goofs off all the time. Well done 👍
Awesome video!
So much respect for your journey. Good luck wherever the future takes you!
This felt amazing to watch. Thank you !Will keep on supporting you!
Me gustó mucho tu historia. El esfuerzo siempre trae buenos frutos. También me divierto mucho con tus vídeos. P. D: La obra que tocas al final es el Vals op. 8, no. 4 de A. Barrios. Saludos!
Thanks for posting this. It was fun to watch. It was also informative and centering for an older guitarist getting back into classical. Loving to learn is my true passion. Setting realistic expectations is important for me to stay motivated and happy. You’re amazing experience and story has helped shed some light on my own path and choices.
Cara, que legal! Me inspirou a voltar a tocar.
Lucas, thanks for sharing your awesome journey so far:) Wishing you and you're loved ones all the best!
Now there are two videos left: the first one playing this keyboard that appears in the back and another introducing the family
what great story and beautiful video lucas, thank you so much!!!
Thank you for your story.
I started playing at 13 when I saw how my father, a professional guitar player, was teaching his students and how much joy they had. Sadly, I didn't do my best to take all I could from him while it was possible :( I played the guitar more for fun and usually while a computer game was loading... The only time I learned and practised something hard was when I discovered Bohemian Rhapsody in Edgar Cruse arrangement 12 years ago :)
But 1.5 years ago, at 33, I made a decision to play and exercise deliberately.
So cool that you acknowledge your teachers by name.
At the end of the video, it’s actually Vals no. 4 by barrios. I have played the same piece, every time I hear it I feel nostalgic
I agree. I dont think i can ever play that good
felt very emotional there at the end.. thank you for sharing this journey with your passion with us. truly amazing
Esto es tan inspirador en tantos niveles!!!! Me emociona segui avanzando en este hermoso arte que es la guitarra.
Oh wow. I love your videos but this one was the first that I felt compelled to comment on. So inspiring and impressive and very well put together. Thank you for taking us on your journey!
bruh...hearing you play those insane jams was so inspiring. I would just watch an hour of you just improvising.
>krawler player
I'm halfway into your journey and there is nothing that has inspired me as much as your 3 year progress did. Kudos to your skill achievement, there is renewed sense of hope now towards practicing.
You inspired me to also start playing guitar i love ur videos
It semmed to be a hard journey, full of good, bad, obsessive times, frustration and success. It is great to see you finally found yourself a way to reach happiness. Thanks for sharing your music, for your work and your lifetime story. Keep jazzin´! Albert M.
I thought he had begun to touch his mother's womb.
Lucas, if possible, make a video about FLAMENCO style
Brazilian greetings, Lucas.
Wonderful video. Thank you for sharing this, Lucas.
It was actually vals no. 4 by barrios he played at the end but it doesn't really matter that ain't the point
Man, you are amazing! I love your videos and vibe! Watching them always lifts my mood up. Thanks for your work!
Just beautiful. I only wish I had seen this 50 years ago when I started playing.
What an inspirational story about striving and overcoming oneself. I'll take your quote "There is no way you'll ever get to the end, so enjoy your journey". Thank you for your work and for making music your own way of life. God bless you brother!
My calculations for 20.000 hours in 25 years do NOT result in practicing 40 hours a day! But you still made it, obviously :P Mad respect!
Bruuh. Nah mate, man can warp time, so ling ling will be pleased.
Спасибо за вашу откровенность!!!
Спасибо за целую историю вашей жизни и развития, как гитариста!!!
Вы прошли огромный путь!!!
Браво, маэстро!
