Thank God for that awesome intro, it made the entire 6 minute video that much better. Without it I wouldn't know what it was about and would be left in a total state of confusion.
I was set on buying a Triumph, but couldn't decide which model until I found your channel. Absolutely love this bike, and I'm basically just copying you, now. Thanks for the videos, man.
I like how you did the exhaust in steps, with corresponding sound bites, that was perfect. Stock didn't sound bad at all, had a deeper tone than the V&H slip-ons with the dB killers still installed. But the last step, with them out, the bike sounds awesome!
If you don't like it put the baffles back in. Take db meter app in your phone and measure the output to the NEW 2019 California noise law which became law Jan 1, 2019. You can find it online how to measure. You should do a idle run to the temp fan comes on at idle to update the ECU. When you put in the k & n filter update the ECU again. You may have to do it several times to get the ecu reflashed correctly.
I have the V&H pipes with baffles removed and I love it. Probably the best sounding bike that I've ever had, imho. This video sounds good but doesn't do it justice (they never do). Even with the baffles removed they are not near as loud as my past Harley with Screaming Eagle exhaust, but still sounds respectably deep and loud enough when riding with Harley guys. In a crowd I couldn't even hear my bike with the stock pipes and was always incredibly paranoid that cars would not know if I was in their blind spot - they sounded great but just way too quiet. I listened to the V&H pipes once at the dealer with the baffles in and honestly it sounded just like stock to me, which had me horribly disappointed in my pricey investment. I immediately was like, "Yeah, those baffles have got to go." Then the mechanic came and got me after removing the baffles and the computer remap, had me start it up, and I've had a big grin on my face ever since. Sounds perfect. Loud but not obnoxious. Well, maybe a little obnoxious but not Harley obnoxious, which is perfect for me :)
Stock and the setup without cat and db killers sound the best imo. They both have a nice deep sounding tone to them. Getting a mapping for the cat delete will probably take care of the popping on decell.
The measurable performance and auditory change after the “installation” of a de-cat (keeping the OEM pipes) on a Thruxton R makes me question about the need to install an aftermarket exhaust at all. Plus, there’s absolutely no need to fiddle with the ECU or anything else. If possible, I’d do that first then, if it’s not enough, experiment with an aftermarket exhaust. I like to hear what others think about this as well . . . thanks.
Took out the db killers on my V&H, throaty and sound great. Maybe a bit to deep though as I may have to start running ear plugs. Going to ride it for a while and see if I leave the db's out or put them back in. By the way I did the ECM run to idle and let the fan come on. Very little deceleration popping. I do think it affects low rpm torque but feel more of a rush around 5000 rpm.
Really nice work Adam. The steps to the end result were just right. I did the de-cat to mine and like the sound (plus burbles) just as it is. (Having installed a set of D&D triple pipes on a 2003 Thunderbird Sport ) which was too loud to ride once done. Like to think I've learned my lesson or matured... Something;
I have a Triumph Bobber with V&H (baffles out), X-Pipe and Booster Plug. I love the sound, it back pops on decel but I kinda like that too. I think your bike sounds great now.
Another good vid Adam! It's funny, different tastes and preferences... I personally love the decel pop, and I have never preferred any exhaust with its baffle in. But its your bike and you gotta rock it your way! Personally I would have gone with TEC Bike Parts recommendation and not wasted $900+ on the V&H slip-ons and only done the X pipe, especially if you don't want to remove the baffles. To me, the V&H baffle in sounds extremely similar to the stock cans. ON another note, do you have any plans for lighting? I recently changed my front indicators on my Speed Twin to the Motogadget M Blaze and they are fantastic! Also relocated my rear indicators to shock mount. ALSO, was able to use your help from your DIY tail tidy video and do my own version, thank you again for making that video!!! Ride safe man. Keep it up!
Hello. As an owner of a T 120 Bonneville, i would like to suggest you should consider adding a power commander or maybe a Booster plug. That would easily take care of the popping in the exhaust when you release the throttle after accelerating. Your motor may run to lean as you fitted both x-pipe and new exhaust.
Managed to get them out taking the pipes off again and using a bar stuck in the other end and hitting the bar with a rubber mallet. Yours came off so easy 😂😂
Something was wrong with your order if you didn't receive V&H pipes that come with a simple c-clip remover; Canada-spec V&H pipes do not have welded bits.
Sounds the nutz Adam 👍👍👍👍 here in the uk we ain’t got the police breathing down our necks so much for loud pipes/emissions as you have in the states, I run a set of TORS on my America which gives it a nice rumble I had the remap but I still get the popping from the decel, 👌🤣 but them Vance n Hines do sound good mate with either the baffle in or out 👌 but I would imagine you would run them with the baffle in to save getting tugged all the time? 🤷♂️🤔 Another great video Adam thanks for taking the time to edit and put it up 👌👍👍
My plan for my T100. Vance and Hines; remove baffles from slip ons, and run cat until my warranty is done. Then onto the x pipe cat-less. Does anyone know if the V&H peashooters have a removable decibel killer/baffle?
Can't really tell with the video sound, but did you notice a difference in sound between the stock exhaust and V&H (before installing the x-pipe and removing the DB killers)? Wondering about getting them for my Speed Twin, they do look much better but if the difference in sound is nominal, might be a bit steep on the $.
@@AdamCroll I already inquired about the stock turning lights at a German triumph shop. About 50€/piece tax in. If you do so, please let me know how they went about turning off the permanent on lights on the rear as I guess you wouldn't want that with yellow. I'm planning getting my bike next year and going to do the same!
Hi Adam, I’m buying a speed twin that’s already fitted with the EU spec of the V&H slip ons. Are the ones sold in California the same as the EU spec? I know both places are fussy about noise and emissions. I’m hoping that small weld is all they’ve put in the EU version to avoid the baffles coming out.
Hi, one question. I have a 2020 Speed twin, I would like to improve the sound by removing the db, in the part of the video in which you remove them it seems to me that it is not the original black terminals, am I right? Is the procedure the same? Thank you
Ha! you should see what CA did to the 2020 Thruxton models. My TFC has the cat welded to the exhaust. Forget about x-pipe unless you’re a pro with a machine shop. The baffles are also welded inside the silencer. No more c-clip :( I notice you have the giant honking CA turn signals. I ditched those for Rizoma Club. CA is over agro with the clean air laws for motorcycles. It’s not like LA has a trillion bikes on the road like cars.
That sucks! Limits the aftermarket for your bike for sure, my turn signals are gone for rizoma’s too. Check it out! ruclips.net/video/ljySGh8YF-g/видео.html
Don’t you have to remap or do anything else to compensate for the increased airflow? Isn’t it going to run lean? Does the onboard system compensate automatically? Great videos!
I did not have to remap, I did install a booster plug though, and it absolutely richened it up. It runs great as is though I’m always wondering what a proper ecu tune could do. I’m in no rush but I’m sure I will explore that in the future.
Yes they can go back in anytime, just need to lock it in place with the snap ring. Long rides it’s fine, I’m use to it’s sound with the baffles out. It’s never felt like it was too loud but that personal preference I’m sure.
Can’t remember off the top of my head though I believe mine were a different part number because of all the California regulations. So if you live somewhere other than CA it might be a completely different part number.
I'm thinking about upgrading the exhaust system on my bike too, also triumph speed twin, but I was wondering about dynos. Do I need to do a dyno for just exhaust slip on Vance and Hines? How about that plus the x-pipe? How about all that plus removing the baffle? Very new to this, so some info would be much appreciated.
@@AdamCroll Also, i live in California, and there are new rules bow about exhausts and db levels. I think the limit is 95bdA, also reading something about 88dbA. Would you know how loud the stock exhaust is, with a Vance and Hines is, with V&H and x-pipe is, and with V&H and x-pipe and removed baffle is?
You might have to contact Vance and Hines directly, because as far as I know any part numbers I know of are for the complete kit of the pair of slipon’s.

That is an absolutely righteous sound, perhaps the best sounding bike/exhaust combo ever. DB killers out for the win!

Hi Adam, thanks for taking baffles 👍🏻 they sound deeper and better in my opinion . Most likely sound different in real life compared to a recording
well i know what is coming out of my V&H exhaust this week
I like -db killer sound.
I find it more bassy and sporty.
I love that Triumph 1200 sound! I have 2004 Bonneville 800 and it sounds good with replaced mufflers, but lacks that growl that 1200 has :)

Ordered these V&H in Canada. Baffle was welded too but once I broke the weld and removed the clip to the db killers, the insert does not come out
