The Master Control line is one of the best lines of any brand anywhere when you factor in functionality, versatility and value for money. The date only model is close to perfection.
When I watched your video almost a year ago, I fell in love with the Master Control Geographic. For a whole year it was in my mind and today I finally got the courage to spend over $ 12,000 on a purchase. Stunning watch! Thank you for inspiring.
That chronograph must be one of the cleanest looking chronographs out there, even with including a full calendar and moon phase! What a precious piece!
Adrian sold his BLNR in part because the value of it was rising above 10,000 pounds. I think it's more of a matter of avoiding too much concentration of value in one watch.
I bought a vintage 1943 JLC Cal 470 when I was 18 in 1990 - I took one look at the gold plated movement inside and just had to buy it regardless of consequences, like going hungry... However, it has gone up 25 times in value since then, so now I wish I had bought all 8 watches that I saw at that time. Investments are very easy to do well retrospectively!
Immediately updated the #1 position of my hunt list. The chronograph calendar blew me away... prefer it against ALS and PP. Price to joy ratio is just stunning!
It's hard to go wrong with JLC, there a great brand which sometimes don't get noticed. Every piece announced in the new Master Control collection is beautiful. Not too big, colours are perfect, just a great looking well made watch.
Hard to go wrong, but not entirely impossible. I had my Reverso UT1931 sent in to their Aus service center for regulation, and after a couple of month, it came back with a quite prominent hairline scratch on the mirror polished reverse side, and an upside down back plate...it was a one time thing, at least for me hopefully, and believe me I still like JLC a lot.
The only watch I regret selling was a JLC master control date. My 50th in 2021 and JLC along with VC overseas are on the shortlist. Keep the videos coming.
I wouldn't say they tower over Omega, they are very much on par. They both have their strength's Omega has the better sports watches, JLC has better dress watches.
With retirement comes scaling back for me. On this earth I can never afford these beauties, but still so enjoy looking. Coffee is within my depth of field at the moment too while enloying your JLC upload and is especially nice to see their homage (master control date) to my Orient Bambino. Doh! Wishing all good health.
The best thing about the date version is the jump from the 15th to the 16th of the month which moves longer than the other months as JLC didnt want to cover the moonphase. I think this additional complication is a amazing touch.
For me, 39 - 40 mm is the perfect size for my 6.75” wrist. The collection is stunning; certainly true to JLC’s design philosophy for the Master Control. JLC is bang on the money with pricing here.
JLC is a spectacular Manufacturer. Extremely Haute Horology yet for a reasonable price. I love their focus on cutting edge technology while staying aesthetically pure. These are the very definition of refinement and luxury.
Least favorite the Master Chronograph Calendar and most favorite the Geograpyc? Wow, complete opposite from me. I like symmetry. Anyway, im super excited for JLC for revamping this line and its upgrades! Im sure this will be a hit
The MC Date is the ONE, 40 mm is perfect, the blue date to match the second's hands (nice), 70hr PR, the finishing and the strap/deployment, plus the lume is absolutely beautiful and just right. This looks to be the perfect dress-up/or dress-down classically styled watch. Another $6700 explanation to the better half I suppose? Cheers!
I've always liked the Master Control Date! Agree with you, Adrian, that slightly smaller (say 38mm) would be awesome! . . . I've been having fantasies of going to an AD that I like, post-pandemic, and buying a Reverso Classic on the brown Casa Fagliano strap!
@@deleted_youtube_handle For that purpose, 50m is plenty. In the 60's and 70's, Rolex Datejust and GMT Master's were rated at 50m only, and it was never an issue.
I think JLC have just moved their own game on significantly. I have a Master Control Date, which just looks plain next to these new models. I agree that the Geographic is the pick of the bunch. I don't usually like busy dials but this I could live with. I hope you're going to cover the Piaget Altiplano - I still can't find words to describe it adequately. A trip to the Laurent Ferrier factory or, even better, an interview with the man himself, would be amazing. Keep up the great work.
JLC always produce some interesting watches but with low power reserve(most of the Master Collections has only 38 hours), to me the biggest surprise/feature of this year is that they are able to pump the power reserve of their new release up to 60/70 hour power reserve without sacrificing the thickness and interesting design.
I absolutely love the JLC Geographic, excellent functionality. As someone who works with teams in India I genuinely appreciate the world time complication having both hour and minute hands. I believe this is so much more elegantly displayed than other GMT complication variants.
JLC again its perfect what to say. Prices comparatively for example IWC surprised by its adequacy👍 ok its a lot of money, but this is JLC and this is mechanical art . So it’s great timepieces however. Thank you Adrian to lets us know 👍👌
WOAH impressive pieces 👍🏼👍🏼the second piece is one of my favorites screams luxury, elegant, a has all I need, fantastic job on reviewing this magnificent piece's....
There is another feature small, but worth a mention. In the back view of the watch at 7:28 you can see the pins protruding through the strap where the spring bars are. Those pins are connected to the spring bar and can be slid along to release the bar from the lugs, saving you using a spring bar tool, which usually scratches the lugs.
Wow, I like all of these. At 40mm I think the Chronograph and Geographic work better than the others. They are all relatively slim though which would help with wrist presence I suppose . Would be good to see them in the flesh. Thanks Adrian 👍
I’m in love with the new Master Control Calendar. Love the new power reserve & jumping date A modern watch needs absolutely a power reserve of +/- 70 hours. When you have a watch-collection (meaning when you have several watches) : you can change a watch Friday for the weekend & put it Monday again on for the new workweek without setting. Owning already a JLC MC Chronograph with a beautiful grey dial, which I absolutely love… I only really regret that JLC don’t bring these models with more color variants: f.i. black or blue dial... I would immediately pick one up, if other dial colors where available. JLC is a perfect watch designer with fantastic models… but they seem not to realize that customers, if buying multiple models, don’t want to have them in all same grey color-dial. Question: Nowhere I can find info if it is a deployment buckle strap or a tang buckle… ? I absolutely prefer deployment buckles !!
"But you know who else uses vegetable dyed straps..." LOL I could tell what was coming next! Great selection of watches - really stunning. At 2:40 I thought 'great competition for a Rolex Datejust' but just a few minutes later I was thinking 'great competition for Rolex all round'. The Master Control Calendar is probably my favourite but the Geographic is stunning too and I genuinely thought the prices would be higher than that.
I picked up a Master Control Calendar Chronograph the other day and absolutely love it. I was actually looking for the Calendar but they had the Calendar Chrono in stock and I fell in love with it in person. Perfect symmetry and some nice additions of color.
The master geographic from two generations ago is very similar with its dial depth and layout but is a more reasonable 38mm. Also it is significantly cheaper and can be had for around $5,500 preowned...only weakness being the lesser power reserve. Love the content, Adrian.
I'm happy I am not the only one noticing this and remembering the Master Control line of yesteryear. 40mm for this type of watch with an open dial / thin bezel is going to wear quite large on most people's wrist. I own a JLC Master Control Triple Calendar (without moonphase) from the late 90's - early 2000's and it wears extremely well at 37mm on my 7" wrist. I think I'd like it better at 38mm, like the Master Geographique of the same generation, but probably prefer it over these new 40mm version. Which are still a pleasant surprise.
That Laurent Ferrier is stunning. Hopefully in the future they tone down the size and put a simpler movement in it to make a more “affordable” version.
They are all superb. My second best is the simple time and date version. My favourite i'm guessing the 14060 on your wrist. Had mine from new for 20 years. The best watch I have ever owned and boy have I gone mad over a lifetime. :)
One detail you didn't mention is that red date hand on the calendar is in the shape of the JLC logo. Love the attention to detail of JLC. Great video Adrian.
You have produced a great video and enjoyed your enthusiasm. My favourite is the calender. Quite a lot of information on the dial but it still looks neat and uncluttered. A beautiful design and cleverly thought out
I love my JLC master control, but the only issue is the power reserve. Great job of increasing the power reserve, but it’s kind of a non-issue since my master control has become my daily wear.
Hi, Would like you to show the Montblanc collection as well. Since your last interview with the main guy, don't think you have mentioned them as much like the geosphere and other models.
I think JLC killed it this year with their releases. Us watch geeks will love their explanations on how the movement has changed as well as the increased power reserves. Really hoping that this is a sign for the MUT Moon that it'll receive a 70 hour power reserve next year!
Agree Geographic is amazing....also bear in mind service intervals and pre-testing, when comparing as some have to other brands. JLC the watchmakers watchmaker still rings true!
The Master Control Date is a stunner (as are the others, but I like simple). I just wish that rather than growing the case size by 1 mm that it shrunk by 1mm (referring to MUT)
Brilliant! I'd stay with my original MC Grande Taille (ironic, given its 37mm size), but that's just my preference for smaller watches and a gold medallion on the back. That chronograph, though...
Absolutely stunning watches! Would love to get the calender/moonphase, but I'm afraid at 40mm its too large for my tiny wrists. Fortunately I have my beloved 2001 36mm master control memovox to hold while I shed a few tears ;)
Stunning JLC releases ! The "entry level" Date is more convincing that the similar Portugieser model from IWC, with "JLC 1000 hour control" and £500 lower price. Could very well see myself buying it as a milestone watch. The Geographic is dream stuff and even at 10 grand, it certainly is not cheap, but looks to me sensibly priced considering all you're getting for your money (and it's 4 K below a 321 caliber Speedmaster).
What's the functionality of the absence of minute/ hour markers between the 4 and 6 hour positions, and the 6 and 8 hour positions? Any time from 5:23 to 5:29, and 5:31 to 5:37 ( likewise for the same intervals after 7) would be sheer guesswork. That's a period of 28 minutes of every 12- hour period when you basically wouldn't be able to tell the time, because of a dial designs flaw.
There’s one thing Ive noticed in these novelties. All of the bespoke in house movements are undersized for the cases, or the cases are oversized for the movements more to the point. JLC could have made these movements larger so the reverse side would look more proportional but didn’t. A nod to their own prowess or thumbing their noses at the modern 40mm case sizes? Only slightly small looking compared with some but the mismatch is there. Sorry, there’s always a freckle on the most distinguished face.
Big big fan of the brand. Great video. I wonder why they keep going up in case size over the years. Not too long ago they had the master Geographic in a 38mm case. Classy. I have small wrists and it's great to know that all that can be fitted into a 38mm case.
The Master Control line is one of the best lines of any brand anywhere when you factor in functionality, versatility and value for money. The date only model is close to perfection.

@@TLR28it’s great! I have the latest version. The previous ones are lovely too tho.
That chronograph must be one of the cleanest looking chronographs out there, even with including a full calendar and moon phase! What a precious piece!
The Master Control Geographic is one of the most beautiful watches I've ever seen in real life. I was blown away by how striking it was!
Incredible offering from JLC this year. Especially the triple calendar, 40mm by 12mm and ‘only’ £12900. Ticks every box for me
Anyone owning three Rolex watches, including two submariners, could afford a nice JLC.
It’s not a matter of affordability but of priority.
If you're a youtube influencer, you can't afford to make videos about your JLC. "In Soviet RUclips, algorithm works YOU!"
So true.
Adrian sold his BLNR in part because the value of it was rising above 10,000 pounds. I think it's more of a matter of avoiding too much concentration of value in one watch.
I have four rolex but can’t afford to buy another watch at the mo .. I’m not rich . Next watch will probably be a BB58 as my daily .

The only watch I regret selling was a JLC master control date. My 50th in 2021 and JLC along with VC overseas are on the shortlist. Keep the videos coming.
The red tip of the MC Calendar is the JLC logo - nice detail.
The window at the bottom of the Master Geographic is too.
Compared to my Rolex and Omega’s, JLC towers above them, reverso or Vacheron are my grails ... thanks for another superb video Adrian
I wouldn't say they tower over Omega, they are very much on par. They both have their strength's Omega has the better sports watches, JLC has better dress watches.

I love their watches and how they stick to their expertise and don’t go the direction of making senseless, flashy marketing.
Absolutely love these. I would buy over a Rolex any day of the week.
My favourite brand. Timeless pieces.
JLC is a spectacular Manufacturer. Extremely Haute Horology yet for a reasonable price. I love their focus on cutting edge technology while staying aesthetically pure. These are the very definition of refinement and luxury.
Absolutely stunning. I am ashamed I don’t own a JLC. They consistently make “perfect” watches.
Is it no wonder why they are called the watchmakers watch. Again JLC proves they make simply beautiful and perfectly crafted time pieces.
Agree with you, I would be all over that first JLC Master Control Date if it was 37 or 38mm.
This is pretty much a reissue of the Q1408420, but at 40mm. Makes me want to give that another look.
Least favorite the Master Chronograph Calendar and most favorite the Geograpyc? Wow, complete opposite from me. I like symmetry.
Anyway, im super excited for JLC for revamping this line and its upgrades! Im sure this will be a hit

Same here. Geographic is my least favourite!
All those watches are...... beautiful.
Masterpieces
I love how the master control calendar’s date hand tip is in the shape of the JLC logo. Very cool.

Awesome pieces from JLC! Just wish they were 2mm smaller :)
Me too.
Pretty cool piece, I would go with that w/o any hesitance :)
When it comes to the high end JLC is the only one I would go for after a GS.
This is a watch brand that I have been obsessed with for quite a while now.. I shall own a piece or 2 very soon.
And quick release spring bars. Brilliant.
The date pointer is also a mini "JL"
That’s cool. I hadn’t noticed.
I would love to see the Master Control Date come in at 38/39mm with 100M water resistance. This would give people the perfect datejust alternative.

The master control date is $8000+ USD as of 2023.... went up a lot
I thought the master control calendar said 'quarantine' on the dial at first. 😂
