Ultimately, her argument was, if you are a woman into watches, Cartier is the best brand out there that 1) you can buy easily 2) is not covered in diamonds, 3) not pink and 4) isn't overly large. I see her point now. I feel like many watch brands have patronizing design strategies when it comes to women's watches. Having tried some in person, I like the Santos more and more, especially the all black model. I'm not sure I'd ever buy one unless my salary gets a couple more zeros added to it. I agree with your wife. I am a woman watch fangirl. I can wear a 40mm (my Shunbun) but greatly prefer 36 and without freaking diamonds everywhere. Also the Cartier horological heritage is above reproach. For me, woman watch collector, the “just jewelry” comments crack me up. Watches are jewels. They are also engineering. And industrial design. And when they blend together - perfection!
Agree with the positive nod to the Longines Dolce Vita rectangular. I recently purchased the 43x27, silver dial with Arabics and blue hands, semi gloss black alligator strap. The only challenge is winding that beautiful non knurled crown, but solved that using a latex glove. Alas, it's a definite keeper ! Another charming and light hearted review Britt. Well done 👍. FYI, even though this movement isn't cosc certified mine runs at a plus 6 to minus 6 over 6 positions.
Oh man, I cannot stand that top tier. Glorified jewelry brands resting on their laurels aren't my thing, except for VC which deserves top spot. I'd have replaced both Cartier and Rolex for not having done anything truly new in the past 40 years, maybe with Omega and JLC respectively. Cartier belongs in RVG tier to me since the last time they've been proper watchmakers I wasn't even born, and now they mostly sell cheap slabs of steel with quartz movements on even cheaper pleather watch straps, c*ckriding the greenwashing trend since it's so fashionable to act eco friendly while cheaping out on quality materials. Love the chart and I think it is accurate. But where is Tissot? I have only one Tissot watch in my collection but its accuracy is amazing, well within rolex spec.
TAG Heuer definitely lost their way over the last couple decades ….. but check out the new black and blue dial Glass Box chrono’s just out!! Awesome! Are they due a comeback with all that history to draw on …… can they do it properly this time??

Cartier being a jewellery brand doesn't contradict the fact that they make great watches. Nothing wrong with that and there has to be that one brand that takes a different approach to watches than all the others. ALS clearly belongs into the divine category. They are undoubtedly on par with Patek in my opinion. JLC belongs there as well. They are always so underrated but they offer such a great watchmaking for reasonable prices. Omega and Rolex swap their ranks in my view. Omega since a long time is at least on par with Rolex in terms of quality and they innovate much more. Breitling in recent years has evolved a lot so they need to be in the very good category. Blancpain as well. Yes, they seem to be kind of a one trick pony but the Fifty Fathoms is just so gorgeous.

The one real miss in this ranking is Grand Seiko. All the Sheeratzoo (sic) finishing in the world can't move them any higher than Quite Good. Their designs are OK, but they'll never attain the reputation of the major Swiss brands. Personally, I think IWC should be higher. They're killing it with their Pilot watches, and the Portugieser line is still amazing after all these years. FOR NEXT TIME, have the brand logos pre-sized! Re-sizing them all on screen during the video is annoying. Please and thank you. 🙂
Rolex is divine branding. Not divine watchmaking. When rolex makes a perpetual calendar or something like that we can talk. Until then I don’t put them with Lange Patek VC and AP.
You are awesome and I agree with 80% of your choices. I feel like you forgot Casio- The Gshock is amazing!!!!! Quality watch for folks on a budget. Also, Tissot makes an amazing watch at a great price- PRX powermatic 80 with ice blue dial is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Both Omega and Grand Seiko offerings have major design flaws. Bracelets and clasps mainly. Marketing is whatever as well: went to the moon, yadda yadda.
After watching the video again and again and again I agree with the rank of the brands mentioned 🙌🏻. There is just one very important Japanese brand missing but we know what happened to them in the editing process 😅

I think AP has moved away from VC/PP's quiet refinement and more towards Richard Mille's 'look at me' watches. Royal Oak will always be iconic but they need to develop a wider spectrum more than just the Code11:59 (I have a 11:59 btw and love it). We need AP versions of Calatrava and Aquanaut!
I've stayed clear of other ranking lists of inferior quality and saved myself for yours Britt. But I'm afraid you'll find the Vacheron you showed is nearly double the price you mentioned. Thanks for another great vid.

As a Fanboy of Omega (although I own only one, the Titanium Ceramic Seamaster), I completely agree with your ranking except for Longines. I don't own one, but think they are making great strides in quality/style v. price. and are deserving of a "Really, Very Good" rank. And what about Oris? Any thoughts on them? Full transparency, I own Tag Heuer, Ebel, and Tudor as well as the aforementioned Omega. Just got a Pelagos 42mm :)

Longines is the Grandaddy of them all. They are only held back by Swatch. The Catalog probably reflects their EXTENSIVE WORLDWIDE MARKET. What sells in Taiwan may not be good for Europe....etc. Omega is superior in every way to Rolex and Tudor. Wilsdorf products are mostly marketing hype wannabes. Curiously, Tudor is better than Rolex. However, Swatch pays taxes and is forthcoming with flaws, missteps, foibles, errors, and flops. Wilsdorf doesn't pay taxes, are not constrained by the Truth, will not divulge mistakes, buries flops, and will NOT describe AT ALL what they actually did to my Tudor BB GMT to "fix" it. VERY SHADY...NOT IN THE SAME BALLPARK AS EVERYONE ELSE. Sales figures are QUITE questionable. Business practices horrifically bad. If you consider these qualities "Divine", then we know all we need to know. QUESTION: If a person CANNOT BUY A ROLEX THEY WANT...then how are sales figures true? Are they PADDING their false numbers with INFERIOR timepieces that people are "settling" for?
You got iwc wrong, they should be higher up, maybe try and handle a big pilot 43, portugeiser, etc. Tudor should be lower down, the brand doesnt carry much prestige

@@SaintWill70 Not likely to do that. I'm very much an Omega fan boy and like I don't need to ask to buy one. If there was a horse from the Crown stable that would have tempted me its the Milgauss but that's now gone too. Clearly I'm just not meant to have one.
Cartier being a jewellery brand doesn't contradict the fact that they make great watches. Nothing wrong with that and there has to be that one brand that takes a different approach to watches than all the others. ALS clearly belongs into the divine category. They are undoubtedly on par with Patek in my opinion. JLC belongs there as well. They are always so underrated but they offer such a great watchmaking for reasonable prices. Omega and Rolex swap their ranks in my view. Omega since a long time is at least on par with Rolex in terms of quality and they innovate much more. Breitling in recent years has evolved a lot so they need to be in the very good category. Blancpain as well. Yes, they seem to be kind of a one trick pony but the Fifty Fathoms is just so gorgeous.
I think Casio was left out because it wouldn’t be fair to the other brands 😊

The one real miss in this ranking is Grand Seiko. All the Sheeratzoo (sic) finishing in the world can't move them any higher than Quite Good. Their designs are OK, but they'll never attain the reputation of the major Swiss brands. Personally, I think IWC should be higher. They're killing it with their Pilot watches, and the Portugieser line is still amazing after all these years.
FOR NEXT TIME, have the brand logos pre-sized! Re-sizing them all on screen during the video is annoying. Please and thank you. 🙂

Rolex is divine branding. Not divine watchmaking. When rolex makes a perpetual calendar or something like that we can talk. Until then I don’t put them with Lange Patek VC and AP.
They have an annual, which has several patents but they’re not high horology, doesn’t mean they’re not divine just there for different reasons.
You are awesome and I agree with 80% of your choices. I feel like you forgot Casio- The Gshock is amazing!!!!! Quality watch for folks on a budget. Also, Tissot makes an amazing watch at a great price- PRX powermatic 80 with ice blue dial is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Both Omega and Grand Seiko offerings have major design flaws. Bracelets and clasps mainly. Marketing is whatever as well: went to the moon, yadda yadda.
Bracelets and clasps are accessories. You should choose a watch for the watch part with the exception of integrated bracelets.

I think AP has moved away from VC/PP's quiet refinement and more towards Richard Mille's 'look at me' watches. Royal Oak will always be iconic but they need to develop a wider spectrum more than just the Code11:59 (I have a 11:59 btw and love it). We need AP versions of Calatrava and Aquanaut!

I agree with your point about Rolex and ladies watches (why can't anyone else make automatics in 28mm???), but I otherwise just don't get the hype. Their steel is great, sure they have history, but why is everyone going bananas for them?

As a Fanboy of Omega (although I own only one, the Titanium Ceramic Seamaster), I completely agree with your ranking except for Longines. I don't own one, but think they are making great strides in quality/style v. price. and are deserving of a "Really, Very Good" rank. And what about Oris? Any thoughts on them? Full transparency, I own Tag Heuer, Ebel, and Tudor as well as the aforementioned Omega. Just got a Pelagos 42mm :)

As someone who has been collecting watches for 40 years, I agree with the comment that Longines should be given a bit higher of a bump. To add, your comment seems dismissive and a tad condescending. Do you know the experience level of Chris-ih6ci, or are you just pulling this assumption of their knowledge out of thin air?
Longines is the Grandaddy of them all. They are only held back by Swatch. The Catalog probably reflects their EXTENSIVE WORLDWIDE MARKET. What sells in Taiwan may not be good for Europe....etc. Omega is superior in every way to Rolex and Tudor.
Wilsdorf products are mostly marketing hype wannabes. Curiously, Tudor is better than Rolex.
However, Swatch pays taxes and is forthcoming with flaws, missteps, foibles, errors, and flops. Wilsdorf doesn't pay taxes, are not constrained by the Truth, will not divulge mistakes, buries flops, and will NOT describe AT ALL what they actually did to my Tudor BB GMT to "fix" it. VERY SHADY...NOT IN THE SAME BALLPARK AS EVERYONE ELSE. Sales figures are QUITE questionable. Business practices horrifically bad. If you consider these qualities "Divine", then we know all we need to know.
QUESTION: If a person CANNOT BUY A ROLEX THEY WANT...then how are sales figures true? Are they PADDING their false numbers with INFERIOR timepieces that people are "settling" for?
You got iwc wrong, they should be higher up, maybe try and handle a big pilot 43, portugeiser, etc. Tudor should be lower down, the brand doesnt carry much prestige

(his original channel) is a pre-owned watch specialist (literally seared into my brain by the number of times he has said that). Doesn't mean his opinions aren't funny or valuable. A person who is not selling watches can easily lead you astray with their opinions too. It's up to the viewer to do their own research and not blindly follow what anyone says.
