Bought the master calendar a month ago and it is stunning! I like the calf leather and it turned to darkish brown now. Just wondering if the rotor is full gold or plated? Cant find any ref. About it. Thanks
The winding rotor of every Master Control watch is manufactured out of 22-carat gold. The hallmark is on its other side ... The Polaris watches though have a Tungsten rotor...
A good presentation video of the 3 models. JLC cutting some costs with the calf straps? Or making it more versatile by dressing it down? Maybe the straps will develop patina. I obviously liked the chronograph amongst the 3. I cannot remember if you mentioned the water resistance rating? Thank you for the video. Cheers

The chrono calender is the watch of 2020 in this price range and complications, hopefully it is a great success and they could do it in different dial colors maybe salmon?
I have a question for you, would you take Vacheron Constantine 56 complete callendar or JLC master control chronograph? Your opinion is valuable to me.Thank you..
@@WatchAdvisor I think @Patriot means Master Control Calendar! Exactly the same function but VC is much more expensive but only 40 hours power reserver.
Great presentation Alexander, these are some of the best releases this year I think. Could you please do us a favour and present the watches next time also in a somewhat more dimmed light condition (not dark) because now it has the same effect as when you are in a watch boutique: the spots overexpose and washes out the beautifull dial. To fully appreciate the beautifull dial, one should see it in diffrent lighting conditions.
Hi ! They are undoubtedly incredible pieces very well achieved in proportion, they dress excellent in most wrist sizes, 40mm is a conservative size today sizes are appreciated that from my humble opinion break with the codes of classic time, the chronograph It is my personal choice of the three shown here, its dimensions are excellent, I insist I only speak of fir each individual with his own .
Handsome watches. The chronograph/calendar and Memovox seem to have fully integrated movements. While the calendar only version does seem to be modular. As from the side you can see the crown is located at the bottom rather than the middle of the case, with the calendar adjustment pushers located distinctly above the crown 🤔
Absolutely gorgeous watches, I feel they would be perfect if JLC could reduce 1-2mm in both diameter and thickness. Interesting to see the changes made on the Memovox to allow us to see alarm working, would have preferred the date window to be more symmetrical or removed entirely. Still, great review as always, thanks Alexander!
A Memovox without date window would be really cool in fact... Less is more! But many potential clients want a date function... 🤷🏻 Thanks for your positive feedback!
It is a clear trend since people want to play around with straps and change the look of their watches... we will definitely see more such solutions in the near future...
Alex do you know if it’s true that the rotor is plated and not really gold ? And do you know why the hands are not in gold but steel and plated with rhodium ? Because the rhodium will wear out after two years and you will he left with the steel hands ? Is it made for saving costs ? Or what is the reason behind it ? Thanks
The rotor is 18 carat gold! The hallmark is on it but on the other, not visible side. I told JLC they should make the hallmark visible to avoid these questions... Why the hands are made how they are is ... I can only guess: weight when made in gold or cost when made in gold... And don’t worry the color of the hands will not change, also after many , many years...
@@WatchAdvisor I’m hoping to get the chronograph based on what I’ve seen online. We will see if I change my mind when I see them in person. This of course is assuming my dealer has them.

Just waiting on their release in Australia. I went to the AD and they are not yet in store (at least the store I was in).. At this price level, I wish to view the watch in person. Mind you I have 3 JLC watches , Atmos clock (the "new one" ) and a travel memovox clock.
@@WatchAdvisor I love the idea of the memovox and it's functionally, but the chronograph looks nicer in my option. If I had to pick I would go the chronograph. I might look into some of the vintage models for the memovox which have a gold case.
beautiful watch the master control calendar.... amazing ... how does it compare to JLC perpetual calendar (beside the price difference)? I am looking at both models to keep for my futur grand son...
The difference is that you have to do all adjustments of the calendar… the mechanism will only advance the discs … Now, is this something annoying/disturbing? That depends what you expect from your watch and if you are willing to interact with it on a regular base… For me it is fun and I enjoy it very much…
Tachymeter is distance over time. So if you are doing dead reckoning you know how fast you are moving from the tachymeter and then the chronograph can tell you how long you have been traveling that speed. So if you are in your boat with a paper chart you can say "If I travel at this speed for this amount of time in this direction I will run into the island I'm trying to find." Also works in aircraft. Pretty damn handy if you're ever in that situation. Which I'll grant you most people aren't. Then again I can't remember the last time I took someones pulse either.
One of the best watch designs in 2020... Although it is not new... What about the strap? Did you like it? Many wrote here they wouldn’t wear with it...
@@WatchAdvisorTrue! Probably in some months i Will buy It. The strap look and feel confortable, soft to the touch , casual and done very well. I think that broke seriousness of the Watch in a great way.
JC, H. Moser and Dornblüth&Sohn top my list. The above JC line is probably the best collection for me, if it fits my 19 cm wrist and "feels" comfortable.
@@WatchAdvisor Thank you. Just one Question: When will you be doing an in depth review on Dornblüth&Son?? I believe many watch friends would very much appreciate that.
With the Memovox, you can only set the alarm less than 12 hours in the future. The alarm function does not differentiate between AM/PM. If you want your alarm for 8 AM, you can set the pointer to 8, and wind the alarm crown after 8 PM.
@@erikiverson1762 i don't like that, if you set your alarm to 8, will it sound twice in a day? 8 am and 8 pm ? always? ... jlc is a huge brand but i think this alarm set is trash.
That's harsh to call such a watch trash! The Memovox will sound perfectly when you set the alarm and it will wake you up, remind you of a date/meeting... everything happens in 12 hours and that's absolutely sufficient... no need for a 24 hour scale/alarm...
@@RickyRicon2023 It will not sound twice a day unless you wind it twice a day. If you never wind the alarm, it will never sound. The pointer only shows when it will sound *if* the alarm is wound.
All Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control watches do have a 22 carat gold rotor... the stamp is on the inner side... All Polaris watches do have a Tungsten rotor ...
😊be carefull what you ask for, keeping these multi complicated watches set becomes a chore..I have the Longines Master Calendar moon phase ,,and once it’s set it stays on the winder. And I have yet to buy another one with this many functions,..actually the fewer functions the better, there my rant is over
Thanks for sharing your passion with us! Keeping a watch on a winder is a possibility, but do remember that this also uses it... like if you park your car in the garage and you keep the engine running all the time...
tachymeter scale is used to measure speed over set lengths, applicable in lots of motorsports. Have I not heard you claim you are in watch industry for decades and you are puzzled by tach. scale? Simply I go to race track I time the speed of my porsch :) over mile
I know what a tachymeter scale does of course... But the possible daily use is almost zero... A pulsometer scale though is useful all day long and fun on top...
I do pronounce it correctly! I did my homework already many years ago. Sche-Scher is wrong! Edmond Jaeger was born in 1850 in Alsace in the village Andlau, located in-between Strasbourg and Colmar. In this area there is a strong influence of German and therefore the there living family Jaeger always pronounced its name Jaeger and NOT Sche-Scher! Sorry, not everything that is unfortunately pronounced the French way is correct...
@@WatchAdvisor :-) Sure, and I was there when Edmond moved to Paris and I can attest you that already then he insisted to pronunce his family name as it known nowadays worldwide. ;-)
@@GoffredoAG Still, Sche-Scheeeer is the wrong to pronounce the brand... Families Jaeger and LeCoultre joined together and one name is pronounced the way I did and do and the other in French as I did and do...
@@WatchAdvisor No. Since its inception, JLC used the French pronunciation. This because Edmond Jaeger was French. The Alsatian origin of Edmond, if anything, reinforces this: since he was a proud French citizen, he used the French pronunciation. If you imagine a French Alsatian pronouncing his name with a German pronunciation, I can only suppose that you do not know Alsace very well! :-))) Anyway, I have multiple books and documents about JLC history and, as far as I could research, this idea on the German pronunciation is not based on any historical fact and it seems to contradict the obvious fact that French people pronunce their surnames in French, even when they have foreign origins, from Emile Zola & Michel Platini to Pierre Cardin and Jean Paul Belmondo. And if you really want to hear from yourself, pick up the phone, call JLC and here how they call themselves. : -) www.jaeger-lecoultre.com/us/en/our-maison/our-history.html
Thank you for coming back ... Interesting remarks to something we could continue to discuss maybe endlessly ... I am for 30 years in the industry... I saw Jaeger-LeCoultre rise from the dead after the Quarz crisis ... I was close to Günter Blümlein, the mastermind who was breathing life into Jaeger-LeCoultre again ... We always proudly talked about Jaeger and never about Scheee-Scher ... I know how they today tend to pronounce the brand ... It is wrong! Never mind! A majority of the employees of Jaeger-LeCoultre are French... Any questions? Still it is not Scheee-Scher... it is Jaeger ... 😉
I have a lot of respect for Jaeger-LeCoultre. However, I find these Master Control watches sit in a slightly strange place in the market. People who are looking for a watch like this are generally willing to spend more and get something like a Patek Philippe, I think. They should make more sports watches. As for dress watches maybe thy should focus on the iconic Reverso?
Why should I buy a PP if I could get the same or even better movement and watch by JLC. The Grandmasters are in the same price range but way better. I think the problem of JLC is the lower merketing image they have than VC, PP or AP. Watch experts know what perfect watch they get by purchasing a JLC. When I see one I know there is an expert and enthusiast.
Home Fink because JLC is not in the same league as Patek, whilst the movement is fully decorated, it is still mostly machine finished, whilst Patek are fully hand finished and display anglage etc
@@WatchAdvisor. A corvette is a type of boat and the bezel is also flashy like a modern day Corvette car.... l think it fits but if you had to ask the corvette reference is too obscure...
Can anyone who owns these watches comment on the whizzing rotor noise of the movement? I was in the shop and it seems VERY loud. Possibly prohibitively noisy
That noise comes from the gear train ... the "whizzing rotor noise" you're hearing is just the rotor free-spinning when it's going the other direction from winding ... the rotor is "only" winding in one direction. To wind the watch you need to turn the vertical held case counterclockwise ... if you turn clockwise the energy is not transmitted to the barrel, but "destroyed" ... this causes the "whizzing" ...
@@WatchAdvisor thanks for the explanation, I am actually familiar with unidirectional winding but this series has by far the loudest sounding rotors I’ve experienced so far.
@@WatchAdvisor Is it quieter when it's on the wrist? Maybe the original comment was someone who noticed the noise when holding, not wearing, the watch.
I own the Calendar version, the rotor is very noisy to the point I took mine back to JLC after 2 weeks to have it looked at. Mine was making a metallic kind of rattle noise every time I moved my wrist, even walking you could here it Jangle. JLC said it was fine, I said I’m not happy that a £10,000 watch is making this much noise and want to give it back and have a refund. The watch maker in the JLC boutique said he will have another look and when he came back said he had changed the rotor and made some adjustments. The watch now is much better but still the loudest sounding rotor noise out of any automatic watch I own.
I don't like it either and I would change it asap... I told JLC that already... I know they have been putting lots of effort in this Barenia-type of strap that will quickly build up patina, but still many don't like it...

A cool, fun and practical thing this Memovox! Didn't like the date application of the others though...
You need good eyes and you need to get used to read the date from the two calendar watches...

Welcome to WatchAdvisor and thanks for sharing our passion!
I have a question for you, would you take Vacheron Constantine 56 complete callendar or JLC master control chronograph?
Your opinion is valuable to me.Thank you..
You are comparing apples and pears… What do you want to wear? A complete calendar or a chronograph? Do you have any preference?
@@WatchAdvisor I think @Patriot means Master Control Calendar! Exactly the same function but VC is much more expensive but only 40 hours power reserver.
Excellent reviews
Great presentation Alexander, these are some of the best releases this year I think. Could you please do us a favour and present the watches next time also in a somewhat more dimmed light condition (not dark) because now it has the same effect as when you are in a watch boutique: the spots overexpose and washes out the beautifull dial. To fully appreciate the beautifull dial, one should see it in diffrent lighting conditions.
Thanks for your feedback and constructive input!
WatchAdvisor Your understanding becomes you. Very respectable.
Amazing watches. My favorite is the Calendar version.
I hear you!
Wow! Wonderful! Thanks for sharing...
Like before seeing it, this evening couch, beer and 50inch screen! Thankyou
Very good idea! Cheers my friend!
Hi Alexander. Great Video. In my opinion, JLC have the most beautiful Dress Watches after Vacheron Constantin. Greetings from germany
Until some years ago Vacheron Constantin used lots of Ebauches from Jaeger-LeCoultre... I'd call them real sister brands
stunning content as usual..

@@WatchAdvisor MASTER CONTROL CHRONOGRAPH CALENDAR
terence ooi That’s mine too! 👍🏻
The calendar is being built on top of the automatic calibre, yes...
Good to hear you as always. ^♡^
Xyzi Thank you 🙏🏻 I am happy 😊 to read this. My I be curious and ask you which of the three is your favorite?
Stunning watches!
Let me be curious and ask you which one is your favorite?
Absolutely gorgeous watches, I feel they would be perfect if JLC could reduce 1-2mm in both diameter and thickness. Interesting to see the changes made on the Memovox to allow us to see alarm working, would have preferred the date window to be more symmetrical or removed entirely. Still, great review as always, thanks Alexander!
A Memovox without date window would be really cool in fact... Less is more! But many potential clients want a date function... 🤷🏻 Thanks for your positive feedback!
The quick release strap is probably the greatest innovation is watches in the last 50 years. I wish all bracelets and straps came with it
It is a clear trend since people want to play around with straps and change the look of their watches... we will definitely see more such solutions in the near future...
Love the chrono’, thanks Alexander 👍.
My favorite watch 2020 so far...
WatchAdvisor yes, The chrono is wow, Never compares with anything nowdays 2020, good choise Alexander
Can you leave the chronograph running without detriment to the watch?
Yes, you can... modern & good chronograph calibres don’t have an issue with that...

Heading to the store tomorrow to buy one. Thank you.
Very cool! Bravo! Which one will it be? Keep us posted... 👍🏼

Very lovely watches!
Which one is your favorite?
Hard decision, but I will go with Master Control Chronograph Calendar, I like that type of complication!
I love JLC complications watches so much, 40mm is good size. 39-38mm woild be perfect.
Do you really think you could make out a difference of 1 or 2 mm?
yes maybe 40is perfect, have to try when they arrive.
Interested in the memovox model!
Do you need any other information or help?
Just waiting on their release in Australia. I went to the AD and they are not yet in store (at least the store I was in).. At this price level, I wish to view the watch in person. Mind you I have 3 JLC watches , Atmos clock (the "new one" ) and a travel memovox clock.

Another great video. I love them all.
In case you must decide... which one would you pick?
@@WatchAdvisor I love the idea of the memovox and it's functionally, but the chronograph looks nicer in my option. If I had to pick I would go the chronograph. I might look into some of the vintage models for the memovox which have a gold case.
amazing video, nice to see the comparisons
Thank you for the kind feedback!
beautiful watch the master control calendar.... amazing ... how does it compare to JLC perpetual calendar (beside the price difference)? I am looking at both models to keep for my futur grand son...
The difference is that you have to do all adjustments of the calendar… the mechanism will only advance the discs … Now, is this something annoying/disturbing? That depends what you expect from your watch and if you are willing to interact with it on a regular base… For me it is fun and I enjoy it very much…
@@WatchAdvisor Thanks a lot :)
A Pulsometer scale is the more “romantic” function 😉 ... just imagine to measure the pulse of a lady being together with you 😉 ...
Tried the Chrono in Boutique and it's stunning!
@@WatchAdvisor I would definitely need to change the strap. It looks cheap, even though it’s not.
I like jlc& jlc memovox . Thanks for details
There are only very few manufacturers providing a reliable and good sounding alarm watch, Jaeger-LeCoultre is among them ...
Very nice watches, just change the straps for custom made croco straps!
I would wear it with a black/grey nub leather strap. I don't like that cognac color...
The memovox is my favorite
In this case I'd go for the chronograph calendar ...
JC, H. Moser and Dornblüth&Sohn top my list. The above JC line is probably the best collection for me, if it fits my 19 cm wrist and "feels" comfortable.
My wrist measures 17 cm, if this helps...

how do we know if you set the alarm at 8 am, and when your time was 8:00 pm does the alarm sound? or what happend with that ?

Is the rotor in gold? It doesn't say AU750.
All Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control watches do have a 22 carat gold rotor... the stamp is on the inner side... All Polaris watches do have a Tungsten rotor ...

Yes Sir! 😜
C'mon JLC, make a black dial version, please.

Kinda shame they discontinued geophysics. Their steel three handed one was one of my dream watches, and they just... Removed it from their catalog.

Hi Alexandre this review is very interesting. The way you mispronounce JLC name is... painful though! ;-)
JLC is a clearly underrated manufacturer ... and others are clearly overrated...
@@WatchAdvisor I own watches from both houses myself :-P
Home Fink because JLC is not in the same league as Patek, whilst the movement is fully decorated, it is still mostly machine finished, whilst Patek are fully hand finished and display anglage etc

Welcome to WatchAdvisor! I hear you! It is noticed!
That loud noise is of course also due to the see-through case back …
@@WatchAdvisor Is it quieter when it's on the wrist?
The Watch itself leaves you breathless but the strap looks very very cheap! sort of 3 $ chinese strap! The rest is OK
I don't like it either and I would change it asap... I told JLC that already... I know they have been putting lots of effort in this Barenia-type of strap that will quickly build up patina, but still many don't like it...
@A. B. did you put it on to see how it looks? I agree with not using eternal black or brown croc but not this! Of course I can agree that you have an excellent taste
Lol exactly. Why can’t they put a croc on it... would be stunning!
