  • How do I study and learn? What's my process for learning in school and university? How do I use the iPad in all of that?
Before I could even start talking about making notes, I needed to go through this first, because as I said "my notes are just a reflection of How I Learn."

Throughout my highschool learning, I've struggled with the material given. I thought at first that I was the issue, I was stupid and dumb. However, that wasn't true. The real issue was in HOW I learned and understood what was being taught. The way my books explained the material to me, wasn't in a way that I understood it because they taught different than how I learn. Since discovering this, I've made it a personal mission to seek out and understand how I learn. This video, after many many hours of watching others, has given me the answer to my question. Thank you for sharing this vital information with us. Thank you for doing your best in explaining it all. I've gained so much from this and I believe I will again be able to look as studying with great enthusiasm as I once did. 💜

Actually memorization masters use this technique to store things to long term memory: The use places on the body or a physical location around them, imagine an image that relates to the thing they're trying to remember, and tie an emotion to it. Like how Samuel creates visuals (image), places them in a location (follows mouth > stomach > small intestine), and then ties an emotion to it (curiosity - asking questions). Really perfect way to describe it - this is exactly how Children learn! Wonderful video, and great editing too! Thank you

    Part B: Question framing
Part C: Answering (Creating the frame work)

This is by far the best one on RUclips. I entered A&P going off of a few of these “how to study for A&P” videos using their strategies and while some have worked for me, asking myself and teacher questions have made the difference between simply memorizing and knowing the material. And it doesn’t stop there. For every tiny ion that I know the function of, I get 10 more questions. Knowing how one muscle contracts, I have a thousand more questions. I started a list of questions about certain aspects of the body that we haven’t even begun yet. I am that excited about learning and actually knowing how our bodies function. AWESOME video!!

Thank you, Samuel, for this vlog. I am a retired teacher with a 14 years old daughter studying in Australia. Until May 2019 she was homeschooled by me in Philippines but the state system here has different ideas about how to screw up a child's education. She goes to the local school each day and we debrief in the afternoon. She then continues her learning into the evening. She understands that the time she spends attending the brick and mortar school is almost useless. She is much further advanced than her peers in mathematics, English, History, philosophy and psychology. The school is unable to provide her with resources so she continues to learn Russian at home. She has no option to study history in Year 9... I could go on, but you get the point. School is a place she must attend to satisfy the legal requirements but it is not a place of learning excellence for her. It may work for some but for my girl it deflects her from a more practical path. I enjoyed and appreciated your vlog because you have provided a direct way I can show her to make notes. I will encourage her to follow your lead and continue to break the subjects down by asking questions before building them up again with note taking.

i really agree with this! honestly, with such subjects required for “memorization” it was at first tedious. however, i learned a way of studying myself: asking questions and organize my notes in a specific way so i break the topic down. then, everything clicked and the facts were like common sense to me. you explained it so beautifully and couldn’t have said better myself! it really made me think deeper into ways of studying! thank you!

It doesn't help me learn, only made me less and less motivated with study. But EVERYTHING CHANGED once I started to break down every topic, using different learning tools for different type of subjects. It really is a magical experience!!

I've always had questions throughout the entire lecture in classes, and when I started questions, Lecturers just cut me out and tell "you ask so many questions, it is common sense". from that day onwards I had lost my complete interest in studies... but when I saw this video it gave me a boost on how to study and learn (well without the help of lectures)
I am so happy to find this in my recommendation. literally, thank you for uploading this video. 12th class I kind of hectic, lecturers put pressure in mugging up the answers. they're few members of my type who doesn't like this type of learning. if I didn't find this video 3 months before my exams it would have been a complete disaster to pass out.

honestly I've been using my dad's old samsung galaxy tablets that come with the s pen and it gets the job done. Probably not as smooth and with limited functionalities (eg. lack of lasso tool) and stuff but for simple notes it gets the job done. Another alternative is to go for microsoft surface pros or google chrome pixel, plenty of microsoft tablet-laptop hybrid thingies on the market that does this just as well. You can find second hand version of these gadgets online too, that might be slightly cheaper. Hope that helps.

Have you heard of "Zettelkasten"? It's a note-taking method that helps build a mental network graph of information by separating collection, thinking, and structuring. I've been exploring the technique with Notion and org-roam but many tools exist. What I've been enjoying is that it always feels organic, so it never feels like a struggle to keep adding to it. For instance, I created a reference note that points to this video, some fleeting notes on a single page while watching this video, then later I break that info into separate permanent notes in complete sentences that can be understood on their own. Maybe then it inspires new connections to previous ideas, like say my notes on learning the Zettelkasten technique which inspires more ideas which I collect into more notes. Now I've got a broader network of ideas with some unique connections between your video and my previous ideas on other learning approaches. Having used it for the past month it seems like a great way to organize knowledge over time but there does seem to be a visual component missing. I think there's a sweet spot combining a zettelkasten with your approach, as I like to think in questions as well, but I'm not sure what that would look like yet.

This is the greatest video ever! So educational and such a necessity for a teacher. You seem like you're going to be a doctor or something but this concept of asking questions and breaking things down is the greatest quality of a teacher :) We all learn like little children and when adults try to sound smart they use these complex words and throw having degrees in their normal speech but it just makes them incomprehensible and the reaction of people is, "I don't know what they are talking about so they must be smart and I'm dumb, oh well." But the mark of a true teacher and learner is simplicity, which I've tried to use with my students. Even though I'm a music teacher this info in your video is relevant to my subject too and I've already started making notes like you for the students... They're loving it :P YOU'RE THE BEST!!!

And like you did, I have seen different videos trying to find the formula, but now just with this video I discovered that there is no any "perfect recipe", that like a small child I have to understand a complex concept with the correct questions and connect them with something that can help me (I'm a visual person, so notes with diagrams and images should work for me). Thank you so much! you inspire me to change to stop memorizing and start learning.
