Ali hadn't stopped or even floored an opponent since 1976. He trained extremely hard for the Spinks rematch yet he never looked like he was going to stop him either. Ali was kidding himself if he ever thought that he could beat Holmes after a two year lay-off.
Ali is our favorite athlete ever at ImaSportsphile....for not only was he beautiful in the ring....he was beautiful in the heart and mind....his message in live was love...so, there is no doubt he was the definitive messenger of God....as there has never been an athlete who had a greater demographic presence than Ali....he is hands down the most well known athlete to have ever lived.....but beyond that....as you succinctly commented....ALI BROUGHT SO MUCH TO THE WORLD....and the world probably needs him more today than ever.....thanks for your comment to our video.

@@barneymiller844 If Dundee loved Ali and cared about his welfare, he should have had nothing to do with the fight and gone public with his reasons. I saw a BBC documentary where Dundee claimed that his way of telling Ali that it was time to quit was to make some extremely vague reference to a conversation they'd had fifteen years earlier. 100%. Especially after two years out of the ring. When you take into account the thyroid medication that caused Al's body to seriously overheat, he could have easily died.
Ali really thought he could beat Holmes because years earlier he could handle him when Holmes was his sparring partner, but that was 1974, this is 1980 and Ali had declined massively and Holmes had gotten better, Ali was also messed up on some kind of medication he was taking that weakened him badly during the fight, some say he already had early Parkinson's during the fight also

We at ImaSportsphile believe Larry got robbed on both fights with Spinks....the 1st fight was the worst robbery.....cuz we believe that any challenger to a champions belt HAS to beat that champ substantially....KO, TKO or Bloody Beating w/ several knockdowns.....and Spinks didn't even come close to that.
