      I was 10 when Joe won the first one i was so happy but i really grew to like Muhammad as i got older his skills were unreal, but i was a major Frazier fan just for his style of fighting,like a dang tank going forward with no reverse available, fearing no one and leaving it all in the ring! 2nd fight was too much clinching killing the action for me, i thought it was a dud, but this one Thrilla in Manilla was downright savage and as close as two gladiators willing to kill each other or die trying. Joes eyes betrayed him though and with no ability to see Ali's punches after the 12th round he was getting annilhalated and i'm glad Futch didnt Joe out of the corner for the 15th. Both ALi and Joe were true warriors to their core!! RIP ALI and Joe!!

    Great rapport between these two. I found it significant that Ali said he favoured head shots, never the body. His own midsection was as hard as concrete: he allowed Foreman to wale away at his body in Africa. Marciano used to let his opponents batter his abdomen at will; he said it wore them out. I remember the surprise on Ali's face when he stuck a jab into Leon Spinks' gut in their rematch and Spinks winced. Boxers being stopped outright by body shots seems to be a recent phenomenon. I know pros talk about wearing a man down with them, but the modern fighter seems soft in the middle compared to those of 50 years ago and more.

    • @misaghyeganeh
      @misaghyeganeh 9 лет назад +8

      No doubt, Frazier was among the greatest prize fighters in history but much to his bad luck, he emerged during the golden era of the sport when many other equally great fights were all sharing the spot light.
      Also keep one thing in mind that many Frazier fans often (conveniently) ignore the fact that he lost many big fights in rather humiliating fashion. The two Foreman flights alone lowers his ranking significantly, especially when compared to Ali who fought EVERYONE and even at his worse showing NEVER came close to going down in KO fashion.
      There is no question about Frazier's heart and determination but he was far more susceptible to cave under pressure than Ali ever was, even in his last 2 sad fights.

    • @HankFinkle11
      @HankFinkle11 7 лет назад

      misaghyeganeh all a matter of styles. Frazier had a style that Ali had a hard time with. Foreman was easier for Ali but squashed Joe. Marciano and Tyson would have been tough for Ali but very easy for Foreman. Lewis and Klitchko would have been easier for Ali.

      @vantheman1234 6 лет назад +2

      Gary Chapman agreed. He’d been fighting professionally at this point for fourteen years. Yes he’d had a three year lay off. However, Ali was fighting great great top ten heavyweights at least four times a year since 1970. This was the third Frazier fight. He’d already fought Norton twice. Plus of course Foreman. Today’s heavyweights will never do the same. The 1970’s was unique. I believe that Ali’s greatest achievement in many ways was his body of work. He fought everyone, beat everyone and took everything that was thrown at him.
      I always wonder how the Ali in this fight against Frazier would have done against the Larry Holmes he sadly fought at Holmes peak in 1980. That would have been an incredible fight.

    Frazier only lost against 2 guys, Ali and Foreman,. The first one is recognised by the majority to be the greatest boxer of all time and the second became 2 times heavyweight champion of the world, the second time at the age of 45, 20 years after he lost his title in the second greatest boxing era. There is no shame in loosing against these two plus Frazier won the first fight against Ali which was the most important fight of all three, the fight of the Century. Frazier is a monster.

    • @TheCharlesJackson

      Thrilla was easily the most important. Not a question. It determined who'd live life proud and who'd live it with a shroud. You saw the result of Frazier losing. The first fight comes in at second. 2 UNDEFEATED world champions. The asterisk on it is that Frazier wouldve been danced around all night by 60s Ali before the lay off.

      Frazier didn't face too many top fighters though; his handlers always protected him. Remember they deliberately kept him out of the tournament organised to determine the champion by the WBA after Ali was stripped? Even the Foreman fight, he had to ask them to make it as they were ducking George because they figured - rightly, it turns out - he was too much for their fighter. @@iamtman1 EXACTLY! If maybe if Joe Frazier had been pounding Muhammad Ali for 3 rounds like Muhammad Ali was pounding Frazier in around 11:12 and especially rounds 13 and 14 making Frazier's mouthpiece fly into the fifth row at ringside perhaps you might be able to tell me that but I remember them asking Ali he said no I would never have quit nor would I quit any boxing match but for a few seconds in tough fights the thought does cross your mind but you got the heart of a champion you you would never quit. I guarantee you this Angelo Dundee would have poured a bucket of ice water over Muhammad Ali's head push them off that stool slapped him in the rear end and said get out there and end this thing and based on the beating Muhammad Ali put on Frazier around 11:12 and especially in round 13 and 14 he may very well have knocked Fraser out or even injured Fraser severely possibly even killing Joe Frazier!

      Don't exaggerate. He looked tired, looked like he had a full schedule. But his slow speech here is not due to the fight, his speech deteriorated after the Manila fight slowly but not RIGHT AFTER Thrilla in Manila. It was around the 3rd Norton fight(1976) and the Shavers fight(1977) that we started to see significant change in his speech. But here on the interview his speech is slow because he's simply tired. You can find similar interviews when he's young, Ali was a big star back then, he was a busy man even when he was not training.

      Great fight. Thrilla in Manila is one of Ali's greatest victories. Frazier looked confident after 9 rounds, had landed some big bombs on Ali but Ali somehow dug deep and turned the fight around completely, landing huge bombs on Frazier from rounds 11 to 14. By round 14, it was over, Frazier was getting lit by Ali's right hand. Futch knew Ali would KO Frazier in round 15 so he saved Frazier from getting stopped on his feet or off his feet.
