Turin recently pulled something like that in a tournament against top Chinese players, it was epic. Not on the same scale of course, it's multiplayer, but it was cool to see the royal dawi airforce in action.

The first campaign I did I used these and an all slayer army to break the chaos force’s spine. I’d deploy choppers and have them fight until they ran dry, then I’d order a withdrawal. Those battles were technically defeats, but I lost no units each time and slowly cut the Chaos armies to ribbons over the course of a few conflicts. Eventually resulting in 20 units of choppers mowing down Archeon, and a few half strength melee units with zero resistance.
Meanwhile when the intensive micro got to be too irritating I’d swap to the slayers and simply right click until either chaos or the slayers were all dead. The slayers took downright murderous casualties in every battle, oftentimes having the army be reduced from 19 units of 80 slayers to a handful of half strength units. Hell sometimes I lost the entire army, the lord included. However I didn’t feel too bad about that because I could replace the losses and death in battle is what slayers want anyway.
Regardless bullying Archeon the Everchosen with attack choppers and an unending red tide of Dwarven Florida Men was very funny.

Very fun batle, but kids, remember: No matter what sketchy-bearded Australian Santas might say, do not try to conserve ammo by shooting 17 missile units simultaneously at a single target lol. Well, it depends, the more hp per model the enemy has, the more ok that is, but firing more than 4 or so missile units at an infantry unit will result in wasting quite a bit of ammo due to multiple models in your units targetting the same models of the enemy units and once they die, all the extra ammo fired at them just does nothing and gets wasted. It is fine against monsters and characters for the most part, less awful against cavalry, but really not efficient against infantry. Mind that this typically doesn´t matter that much, but when you keep making a point of how low on ammo you are and how conservative you need to be with it, it is kinda weird to then do that :P

and then when you've spent all that ammo(bombs), say "especially when you're on a timer", and there's more than 50 minutes remaining on that timer when you do so...smfh.

This kind of doomstack would be invincible in small unit scale. (Having tried it, gyrobombers are OP in that scale, their shots are powerful enough to quickly get rid of any single entity monster and also infantry, you don't even need the bombs)
game is balanced for large/ultra unit scale. At small scale wierd things happens. same with stimtanks

Is Legend or anyone aware of the sea based loot opportunities like the skull coves etc where after sailing into one and accepting the battle and you can retreat and still get the money and loot as if you won? It’s currently saving my ass in very hard head to head campaign as the vampire coast(cylostra) as all i have to do is send a single lord out trigger the battle and then retreat and i get the full 20000 or 5000 gold. I also found what worked for me in head to head vampire coast is exchanging units between armies to increase loyalty as it didn’t seem to decrease their loyalty as it would when disbanding units. It also worked for my dark elves partner. Just thought I’d contribute my cheese discoveries as I haven’t seen them used before.
Edit: my reply to this comment clears some stuff up about these cheeses.

I love this stack! Seems a lot of fun, and a great way to kick the arse of the legendary chaos invasion. Especially with lighting strike!
Seeing this makes me extra pleased about having just finished my first Legendary Dawi campaign! Skaven had been entirely wiped out from the south by turn 100, was so easy to handle Chaos, all my armies were freed up.

I tried it recently in legendary and it's good against most of the enemies the dwarfs will face : Greenskins, Norsca, Chaos, Vampires and Skavens. You do need lightning strike and I suggest having a runesmith within the army for the siege if you don't want to wait one turn. The ranged units of skavens can be a pain but when you're close to them, the enemy ranged units will activate their skirmish mode and you can shoot them in their back very easily, skaven weapon team will instantly be deleted by focus fire because of their low numbers. The only one that can be trouble are the Gutter Runners and Night Runners (especially in Clan Eshin) who shoot while fleeing but you have an advantage because you outrange them. In comparison, greenskins are absolute pushover. It's also very strong in siege battles even when facing anyone, even Empire (because you can really take the ranged units one at a time).
I never really used them before I'm gonna try this in my next dwarf campaign.

The problem is that it's really good up until you run out of ammo, and then things get very dicey, very quickly.

I like seeing odd things that others really play with in this series, like an all gyrobomber army. Seeing you win with it is also great
I love the imagery or the Horde of chaos just advancing south under gyrobomber fire at the end of the first battle totally unperturbed.

that really only depends on if the army has high leadership, with high leadership an army can take 90% before losing Units in small units scale
I ve played this as well. Best options to get this fast is to play as white what and take over purple dwarfs asap. 4 towns with growth building + port. With special airforce building in your main town/province will make it cheaper and with higher rank. I was able to support 6 armies full of gyrobombers + at least 10 more armies of any kind and still have + income

You can make blobs. If you fly around in circles in the middle of their formation and you don't have any visible units on ground, like you do here, the enemy will try to adjust formation constantly and the blob will form somewhere in the middle. I used this tactic with 'Sisters's Hawk Riders' getting about 50k dmg on each unit (with 3 volleys, i think), 3-4 units in each army.

Id actually love a "ledgend doomstack of choice" video, like a video that just gives a quiick 2 min summary of the doomstack ledgend goes for on each race
Sisters of averlon for high elves, steam tanks for empire, hippogryph knights for bretonnia, mammoth spam for norsca, shades for dark elves, dragon ogre shaggoths for chaos, stegadons for lizardenmen, skeleton spam for vampire counts, necrofex collosus for vampire coast, treeman spam for wood elves, tombkings, skaven, orks and dwarfs cant really doomstack so their doomstack is just a very strong army

well the gyrobomber thing can be used together with a support army to make it over powering but in anycase it does well in terms of weakening stacks to make it easier long term.

yes good on small unit scale due to really high damage and no penalty but they can be sniped and routed with one gaze of nagash, straight up insta dead if overcast
Now imagine these as Thunderbarges. Glory to the ancestors!
To be fair, he doesn't seem to spam them. But one or two of those stacks patrolling Norsca could indeed be a very good way to completely deny Chaos (Ironbreakers no likey Halberds). Being able to completely protect the Northern flank of your empire with 1-2 stacks with Lightning Strike, is pretty good value. And it looks amazing. Definitely in my TODO list.
Gyrobombers should have the same unit size as other gyro units. As a single entity they're awful.
Also the multi shot guns do so little damage. They should so similar damage to hellblaster volley guns.

In these situations it's important to focus on 1v1 shooting so that you don't waste more projectiles on the same entities

I tried this doomstack out a few months back. 1 lord, 1 thane, 1 engineer and 17 bombers. Thanes and Lords are pretty tanky with the right trait and skills, so massive blobs can be easily formed for the bombing runs.
This is a good army for factions that don’t have a lot of missile units.
Lmao at 21:20 the enemy commander is literally called Kilgore (famous helicopter commander from Apocalypse Now)

The issue I have with gyrobombers is that a gyrocopter has bombs as well, but since they drop 4 with each click they aren't that far behind in total number while having vastly superior guns, and even melee ability. I don't know if the bombs are even different but if they are, it's not really significant enough to make a difference.

Alternative tactic: Group up the enemy by the edge of the map (have to use a lord or hero), and be more sparing with the bombs. Dumping them all together causes overkill and knockdown invulnerability, wasting potential damage. Bomb the horde with 4-5 bombers at a time until units start to route off the map, and repeat.
Sending your disaster campaign to legend of Total war is the Total war community equivalent of getting stuck on the last level of a game and asking your big bro to play for you. Change my mind.
I wonder if corner-camping would work in this case also, since the enemy would be more consentrated

ironwarden and old guard tankard both give health regen, they occupy different slots and old guard is cheaper but doesnt give the other buffs that ironwarden gives
also manticores really arent effective against gyrobombers because of the suppress when they are hit that lowers speed so bombers can just shoot and run away untill they are dead

If they never discover your ground units then the timer is on your side.
If you run out of ammo and timer runs out you'll get your ammo back

The problem with the gyrocopter is that they often target the edge of the unit for infantry. Honestly, they need a buff where they can spread their fire out, like the twin sisters of twilight.
That's a problem with fire while moving units
They all focus on one model at the edge of the unit meaning they waste ammo

Pretty good doomstack, I say. If you take into account the possible retreat then fight again. Vs melee faction like BM, Chaos, VC or Norsca. That's great!
