@JGR4LIFE 100% It looked unsurvivable. You know how EMTs and police use the phrase "not compatible with human life" to describe gruesome situations? It felt like that was going to be the case here. It is up there with Michael Waltrip's Bristol crash in terms of damage to the vehicle.
Caught this live on television back then. That Bodine crash stunned me when it happened, I thought immediately he was dead. Amazed he survived but he was never the same driver.
Honestly, how they commented (or lacking in that department) on Bodine's crash is how you should handle these crashes of this magnitude to be honest. We kinda saw it with Austin Dillon's 2015 catchfence crash. I honestly think ESPN handled these crashes best. Let it go quiet and just keeping calm unlike NBC, FOX, and TNT in the 21st Century
@@ceeinfiniti1389 like I said. I like it when they actually show their emotions. Don't matter if its calm like Geoff's crash or as excited like Newman's crash
A few years back I went to checkout a vehicle for sale in North Georgia and the guy selling it was the one who entered Bodine's truck in this race. RIP BP, Bobby Hamilton.
I honestly still don't know how it took so long to have a truck race at Talladega at least a year after Daytona's success. Also Marty Reid is still terrible in the late 1990's as he is in the late 2000's.. Ugh.
You can see Bodine's arms failing around lifelessly. The roll cage stored away is how his truck was when safety crews arrived to the accident scene. Very, very lucky.
I was 15 at the 2000s Speedweeks. This was the only race I didnt attend as my Dad and step mom went out so I could do home work in the hotel. My reaction to the Bodine wreck scared the shit out of the lady cleaning the room at the time. Only this and Greg Moore's wreck have made me literally throw up.
I for one hates how the Truck Series evolved: 1st gen · Ovals under 1 miles and road courses 2nd gen · Ovals under 2 miles and road courses Current gen · Like every other NASCAR national series The 1st few seasons felt special, it was a NATIONAL series but it didn't look like the other 2!!!
Something i think a lot of people will be amazed by was that the truck Bobby Hamilton was driving in this race would race until 2018 when it was finally written off at Dega.
I was at this race walking around down in the souvenir trailers and when it happened it literally sounded like a big ass bomb had exploded on the track.
Crazy to think that If the car that initially got turned wasn’t missing the right front fender this whole wreck wouldn’t have happened. That’s what immediately launched Bodine off the ground
Correct but they also didn't think these trucks could get up to a speed that would get allow them to get airborne. Were they ever so wrong... though it wasn't necessarily speed, like Allison's crash but what causes most cars these days to get airborne, which is energy being redirected extremely fast.
I'd say that was the worst crash in nascar history you may disagree but he did a dillon into the fence then got NEWMANED he also did a slight 2013kyle larson
Stil got no iea ust how Bodine survived that. If that catch fence was broken it'd have been a 955 le mans type scenario, same for 1987 Talladega really...
Have a great day, God bless, Jesus Christ loves you all, John 3:16 God so loved the world that He gave His One and Only Son to whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life
"this is gonna hurt!" truer words have never been spoken

Ah, yes, the infamous "How the hell did Geoff Bodine survive THAT?" race.

Also watched live. And the nervousness of no restrictor plates. Then it went bad in a hurry.
@@skittlecar1 What? They shouldn't run restrictor plates on super speedways. They are what keep them packed together and causes the wrecks.
@@chadjustice8560 Trucks didn’t as the aerodynamics weren’t as good as the Cup and Xfinity cars so they were slower.

Probably because someone almost died?
One of the most craziest truck races ever.

I would love to see a compilation of the worst restarts in NASCAR history
**everyone staring at harvick**
virtually all of them will be double file, go figure
@@AlonsoRules I'm talking about moments like Jimmy Johnson missing the shift at Dover and crashing the field.

Man I was terrified by Geoff bodine scary crash
Love nascar and truck races, but my favorite is the xfinity road courses
5:42 I didn’t know that that happened during the race. Damn

Is that in Under the Sheet Metal?
@@extragoogleaccount6061 the truck was nicknamed Freak. And it really was a freak.
This race was good but scary
It made me sick when I saw the car torn up

3:35 and lead the f-… and lead the field in to the pits
exciting at the end of the video between wallace bush and martin

I'm still wondering how he survived with the safety precautions they had during the time
The fact his truck was pushed into the catch fence which acted like a shredder
I don’t think you mentioned this, but wasn’t this NASCAR’s first unrestricted race at Daytona/Talladega since Bobby Allison’s Dega crash in the 80’s?

7:29 i was sitting about 20 feet from that fireball. it was my birthday.
Awesome video! You should go over the 2005 truck race at Atlanta that Kyle Busch won next
Bruh 1st time starting at Daytona for the start of the season and what I consider the worst ever nascar wreck in history happened? What are the odds
Lyndon Amick and Rob Morgan were the two cars that came up and hit Geoffrey Bodine to make him go up into the fence
Thank god Geoff Bodine was ok after that crash holy and I mean this was before the HANS Device
That first Daytona truck series went from good to sour
Daytona's catchfence was so tiny, low and weak back then. Easily could have had a vehicle go over it.
Wait they started at homestead before 2000?
I never realized that bodines crash was the frist truck race at daytona
Someone was protecting Geoff When he went into the wall was none other than Luck
I'd say that was the worst crash in nascar history you may disagree but he did a dillon into the fence then got NEWMANED he also did a slight 2013kyle larson
Usually (as a normal/new watcher) I don't think Nascar wrecks are that big,
But 7:22 was different
