My puppy doesn't care if I'm "boring outside" she's just happy to get a leaf to try and chew on.

I have the same problem....I walk my 8 month old puppy with my 2 other dogs and even though she sees them pee / poop outside...she wats until we are back home and then she races for the patio door Togo and do her business.....I learned from this video that I should start bringing her outside to the backyard on a leash...

Hi there, Endija! It's not about standing in one spot. It's about managing your puppy's behavior on leash, and keeping them from getting distracted when you're out there. That is definitely something we can create. It is important that your puppy is happy and comfortable in their crate before you have to leave them for any length of time. Here is a video that shows you how to teach your puppy to LOVE their crate. You should definitely do some of these exercises with your puppy while you're home, and able to see, hear, and communicate with your puppy! Nope my puppy doesn’t have accidents. She purposely poops and pees inside.

when I first got one of my chihuahua's, in the morning she climbed on my stomach and pee'd on me. Yuck! I had to get ready for work that morning, too!
I just got my puppy yesterday and this has helped me so much. We had about 6 accidents in the house before it kicked in. I have picked up on his cues and just establish a regular routine of taking him out every 45mins to an hour.

I'm having this same problem! He will hold his bladder up to 14hrs.. I can bring him back outside for 7min at a time every 20 min to the same spot for all those hours and he still wont go.. I will bring him back in and into his crate, then he will pee himself all over.. I've been trying to get him to go outside for a month now.. and I cant keep him in the crate (between outside visits) for that long as that's not right.. so I'm at a complete loss.. and no he doesn't have a bladder problem, he will go every couple hours if allowed to roam the home. He does the same with his bowel movements where he wont go for 30+ hrs if I bring him outside to go. Have you had any progress with your puppy?
@@WlfLverOO7 at that point, I personally would get a dog door, train her how to use it, and then put the dog crate in front of it with something behind it heavy so it won't move. Then she can come and go if she wants.

Try to put your puppy on a leash. Don’t move around too much. Once your puppy gets used to using the bathroom in a certain area, he is going to pee in that same spot. Stay consistent and be patient. 😊
Take your dog to the same spot every time. So when he has to go, go with him on a leash to the same spot and say “go potty” or whatever you wanna use

Thats the exact problem we have. My puppy has no problem peeing outside. She Does it right away every time. Multiple times! Gets her praise and treat.. But she comes in and Pees with in 5-10mins, in random spots. Shes 12wks old and have been potty taking for 3 wks now. Shes gotten better at doing her business outside.. But inside showing improvement. Question still remains. "Why"?
Hi there, Poppy Chulo! She may not really understand that she isn't allowed to go inside! Peeing is a self-rewarding behavior, it feels good, and she finds it rewarding. If you haven't let her know (with good timing) that she isn't allowed to go inside, then she doesn't truly know that the specific behavior of going pee indoors is wrong. I have the exact problem and i can’t put her in the crate I have another dog that sleeps on my bed and she won’t stay on the floor so I have to her on the bed so I have to keep awakening up every 2 hours to take her out
Megan Woempner we've had the same issue and here is what we do. Hope this helps a bit 1. Supervision as much as possible so we can catch them in the act- our puppies start sniffing around the area they've peed on before so we know that's a sign. We're in lockdown during the covid crisis so this is easier for us. 2. Very strict schedules- as soon as they've woken up from a nap, after eating and around every hour or so, we take them out for a wee, we also make sure there are no toys or distractions around, we just stand there looking as uninteresting as possible. This has really helped with the older puppy (she's now 10 weeks). The younger pup is 8 weeks and still learning. We still have accidents but they are less frequent with the older than they were when we first got her.

Wow! This was so helpful, thank you! I just started fostering a 3.5 year old American Staffordshire Terrier Mix. She is so gentle, calm, and sweet. The only thing is she refuses to go to the bathroom outside. Yesterday when we picked her up, we brought her to a grassy area to go and she didn’t. Then we tried when we got back home, after she ate, and every hour after that. She then eventually came back inside with us after the last time and peed on the floor. Early around 5am we discovered she had pooped in her crate as well. I’m assuming she’s just a little stressed and used to peeing in her crate from being at the shelter. I’ll be sure to try these tips and if anyone else has any, please let me know!

Hi! I have a question about this. I have two dogs, the oldest was about 8 months when we adopted her and learned to potty outside in like two weeks. But our puppy was month and a half when we adopted him, so he learned to potty on paper so now it's been super hard to transition into potty outside and the other dog started going inside too, now I have two untrained dogs and I'm dying. OK I'm gonna be watching every one of these videos!😳😁 We just adopted a rescue dog that's 2 years old that was only trained to puppy pads...... so she only goes on puppy pads in the house .....and doesn't go potty outside when we take her outside. I suggested to my mom to take the potty pad outside to where we want her to potty and just keep doing this and I think she should get it....oh my patience indeed.

So frustrating. It sucks having to keep going out in the cold while living in an apartment. My pup won't go outside and I don't want to do puppy pads. I'm trying. Took her out 8x yesterday and she had 4 accidents. Never used it once outside.
I always try to take my dog outside as much as we can when we feel like it’s been long enough and she has to go potty. I take her outside for around 5-10 minutes and she doesn’t go. We bring her back in and right away starts looking for a spot to go potty. We again take her out and she just sits or lays on the grass. We come back in after a couple minutes and she goes potty in the house. Please help!

In the morning when I open the crate I pick him up and carry him outside because if I let him walk by himself he'll go to the bathroom right away. Plus there is a flight of stairs that he cannot yet go down. Is this okay?

Our puppy goes outside but I was wondering how long it takes for them to start telling us they have to go outside by maybe walking to the door themselves.
Have them sit at the door and when they make eye contact reward them then go outside and when they finish reward again. Continue this and they will associate having to get your attention to be able to go outside and pee for a treat

This vid worked she was distracted where i would take her so i moved and kept saying go potty and she went. I said good girl pet her and gave her a small treat. Thank you for the vid you dont know how many times i would let her out bring her in and as my back was turned she went on my carpet. The leash helped i usually let her run free with the other dog. But i used the leash and it worked when she went pee i took the leash off of her as a reward

What do you feel is best for my situation. We are all gone for 9 hours a day. Would it be best to leave my puppy in her crate the whole time we are gone or leave her outside? We live in the country so it’s not a big deal for her to be outside all day as far as neighbors are concerned. We do have a large fenced in backyard but she is still small and can get out beside the gate. She is inside most of the time while we are home and at night, but we are still struggling with potty training and I imagine that affects it but I’m not sure what the best thing to do is.
The safest bet is to keep that young pup in the crate, without supervision there are too many variables that could be bad leaving them unattended outside for 9 hours. Have you checked out our crate training playlist?

I potty trained my dogs by taking them out as much as possible. They got used to going outside and both of them were trained to go outside by six months old. One of them lays by the door when he has to go potty and the other one sits and puts his paw up when he needs to go. I did get lucky because Labrador's are very easy to train. I do highly recommend it instead of crate training or potty pads. Once they get used to going outside they don't want to do it inside.

My dog just happens to not care that he's in his bed/crate and uses the bathroom in it consistently over night, I bathe him and let him out multiple times ever day. My parents really wanted me to keep the dog(they got him as a moving away gift), Now I keep newspaper in his cage, this has happened with other dogs,so I have a new and smaller cage on the way. I hope it'll be better for him.
Mishupa yes make sure the cage is just big enough for him to stand and turn around. Otherwise he’ll have room to poop and pee and another space to sleep.

My girl is 18 weeks old and has been shown that outside toileting leads to good things, and gets nothing out of going indoors (including negative attention), I have controlled environment and take her after food, play, drink, sleep, etc. She just doesn't seem to have the inclination to WANT to pee outside no matter how I encourage her. Any tips?

*HELP PLEASE* I recently rescued a 5 yr old Dachshund. His prior owner was a bad hoarder & passed away. The dog never went outside. I found a home for him (neighbors of mine with Dachshunds). I just adopted a 1 yr old Cane Corso Boxer mix from the shelter. She goes outside no problem, then 30 mins later she squats in my living room and pees again. We've tested for UTI, kidney, liver and diabetes issues and all values are normal. She liked to drink excessively too, and may have Psychogenic Polydipsia. Fortunately she can hold it all night in her crate, so I dont understand why she let's it rip in the house 30-60 mins after I just took her out and she peed.
Can you tell me what this is about keeping dogs in a crate especially puppies? I'm from Europe and I don't know anyone who (or have myself) locked a dog in an enclosed tight space. To me it's a little jail cell but maybe I just say that because the concept is so alien to me.. i would much prefer to just give them a comfortable soft place to sleep
Its their safe space, this is their home within your home. Most of the time you leave it open, the dog will come inside when they want to

I’ve been taking my puppy for walks for an entire month now and she has still yet to poo or pee. All she wants to do is go home and refuses any treats I give her. It’s really frustrating because she just waits to go home to do her business. I don’t know what to do. Whenever I ask people for advice they just say to give it time.
I think this advice is very good. It's hard work and time consuming when you get a puppy but if you take the time in the beginning it pays off. They are like babies they have to learn. My ten week puppy is going outside now. We have had a couple of accidents in the house but that was my fault because I wasn't quick enough getting her out.
Puppy can be trained to use a "litter box"!! What we use is a rubber, under a water heater tray, with sawdust/chips. Clean often. A little equine stall fresh under the sawdust helps cut the built up smell. I've even trained doggo to use the litter tray placed INSIDE a little kid's play tent (for privacy) when we have gone camping!! DO.NOT.USE.KITTY.LITTER

This is good advice but I live in a national forest..so I can’t really walk my dogs that much..
I'm really confused, this helped but I still have a question. My first puppy is only 6 1/2 weeks old; and when I take her out, she only pee's but doesn't go poop. It's really hard in the winter to find a non-distracting place. Please do a video on potty training in winter!

I'll try yo implement the advice, but I am doing alot of this. My dog will literally rush out, first thing in the morning, pee. Then will REFUSE to poop. 10 minutes, nothing, crate, 10 minutes... etc. Do idea lly just keep going? I'm not being cruel at a certain point?

Hi, I have 2-3 month-old puppy. He had his first vaccination 5 days ago. I taught him to go on puppy pads, but now I want to move outside. Do you have any suggestions? After 30 min of standing in the same place, he did everything on puppy pads after we came back. HELP!
I have watched your whole playlist on puppy potty training and none of the tips are things we haven't tried already. We take her outside frequently and she pees and poops every time but we take her in and she'll pee right in front of us. We yell and she immediately cowers down and starts running still peeing. We have tried yelling, crating, smacking to let her know peeing inside is bad and we give her lots of love and treats when she pees outside. Sometimes she even pees on us she doesn't even try to sneak off. She is a cuddler so she always with us so we take her out every hour cause she won't tell us and even tried taking her out every half hour but she still manages to pee inside. We have no clue what we are doing wrong. Our other dog was so much easier to train and we are frustrated. My dad has trained multiple dogs and never grew up without one and he doesn't know what to do with her anymore. My mom says she's going to get rid of her if we don't train her but I'm very attached and don't want that to happen. The dog is a Jack Chi and I'm very scared I'm going to loose her.

What about when you have an old dog you've adopted and he won't go unless you take him on a walk. He holds it in on purpose and goes in the house if I don't walk him?
For context his previous owner rarely walked him. He didn't start doing this until I started walking him everyday.

My pup will only go outside sometimes but seems to have no issue going pee inside. I think the “outside to crate” method when she doesn’t go will fix half the problems I’m having. The other half is discouraging the indoor elimination in the moment.
For me, I don’t think I’ve taken full advantage of my puppy’s crate. She likes it and doesn’t mind going in it, but I really only put her in there to sleep. I should use it more to help curb this behavior and to house her when I can’t give her my total attention.
Hi there, James! I agree that you should use it more often for short periods throughout the day. It is a great way to make her even more comfortable in there, and you're less likely to have accidents in your home when you can't supervise her! Happy Training ~Ken
So my 6month old won't go pooping outside. Allyvor prefers to use the training pads only- I guess that training went super well...huh
So, now when I take him out he just loves the time in the sun, then comes in a kisses or poops on his traing pad.
I am tired now of buying training pad. The cost adds up
My puppy is 5 month old, he has been going to the bathroom on our balcony until he finishes his vaccines. Now that he can go outside, I tried training him to eliminate outside but nothing is working! I go to 1 spot, I dont distract him, I redirect him when he gets distracted, I take him out every 2 hours, NOTHING!
He does go in the house, he knows better I have corrected him and I blocked the balcony so he cant go there also. what he does is he holds it ALL DAY and then pees and poops at night even if I confine him to a single spot much like a create. its basic biology of course he is gona go at night he has been holding his poops for 24 hours!! this is day 3 and still the same thing PLEASE HELLLPPPP
So the maximum amount of waiting is 30 minutes, because I’m already over an hour waiting outside my house? Is there a way for the dog to know to go outside without a crate? Because she’s already stressed from hers over being stuck in there for 8 hours in a plane flight
My puppy immediately lays down in the grass and falls asleep. She ignores me and refuses to get up. Or she finds a corner near the fence and lies down for a nap. If I can get her walking by picking her up, she eventually goes potty. But I know I shouldn’t be physically lifting her to make her walk. Usually she lies down almost immediately anyway. What do I do? I hate taking her out to go potty now.
