Because of Andrew's videos I decided to buy that same guitar as my first 8 string and I'm having the same pickups and tuners installed. I can't wait till it's all set up and ready to make music. P.S. Nice riffage with the Fear Factory.
This is some good info when i eventually change the pickups in my cort multiscale 7 string, i didnt even think about the possibility of needing 8 string pickups so thanks a lot for that! A great video in general 👍
I have the harley benton multiscale 7 and I want also to get some fishman tosin abasi. I wonder if you took the 8 string set for the 7 multiscale and if so, do them perfectly fit? Also, I wander what did u do about the battery.
@laurentiuburduja5247 The pickups are 8-strings sized. So you have to get the Abasi 8 strings pickups. They fit perfectly into the Multiscale7. For the battery, there is just room to fit it into the stock cavity of the guitar, but it is very very tight, you have to place very well the knobs to leave space for the battery. I ended up carving a second hole to fit a 9V battery holder next to the original cavity so that it was a lot easier to change the battery.
Came here from Andrew's video! Would've been great to hear a comparison between the original pickups and these. Also it seems that only the 9-string Fluence Moderns have the Voice 3 single coil voicing. There's no mention of Voice 3 on the product pages of the other pickups in the Modern series, so that's quite interesting.
Cheers! I can assure you the pickups were fine, but any household pickup name will blow them out of the water. Again it all comes down to budget and what you can live with until you can put some extra cash into pickups and tuners. The stock hardware and electronics will get you by in that case. Interesting on the 9s only having single coil mode. Could be how they're wired from factory, since I put 2 push pull pots in this one.
Absolutely love the videos bro!! Killer guitar man!!! Reminds me of the dime slime...which is my favorite guitar of all time!Great content...keep it coming!!!!! Peace
But the price of these new tuners plus pickups is equal if not more than the price of the guitar itself. Overall price will be close to 1000$. I am wondering if for these money there's another guitar option with some household pickups, locking tuners and maybe a better build quality? I saw some Ibanez in that price range, wondering how it compares. Although it wasn't a multiscale.
@@DeathRaven. No the Ibanez RGSDM8 is what you want or if you can't afford that one get the RGS8 both are pretty ugly but its ibanez so they are top tier even if it looks like a 2x4 with strings nailed onto it.
Depends on which model you have. From looking at the pictures on Thomann, it seems like the R-457 Fanfret models have a regular 7-string soapbar pickup-sized cavity, but the MultiScale-7 models seem to have an 8-string pickup-sized cavity. Measure your pickups first to be sure.
By the way, unless I missed something in the video, you did not show how you managed to get the battery in. In my case, I had to put it between the 2 knobs, it fits tight, but it fits. I was eventually looking for a more elegant way to do it...
@@EricMorettin Just to update: I carved a 9V battery cavity just next to the already existing cavity and I installed a 9V battery holder. Now, changing the battery is straightforward and there is a lot more room in the original cavity.
@@EricMorettin Also: I installed a 6 ways Freeway toggle switch. It goes really well with the Fluence as you can route it to get (in my case) a split of both pickups in the middle position, and the Voice 2 in positions 4, 5 and 6 without having to use the push pulls.
Is there any way I can use push pull pot only for volume, so that I can split the coil, and one regular pot for tone. I have issue with the hight of push pull pot for tone and I don’t need the other voicing that is activated with tone pot. I got fishman modern 9 and the earlier version of this particular guitar
I'm sure you can just use the standard pots that come with fishman pickups. You get 2 standard and 2 push pull in the package. You may have to contact them about wiring though if that diagram isn't in the owners manual.
Great video! Crazy point about having to size up, I have HB's cheaper fan fret 7 string and was wanting to swap pickups, would you guess that 8 string pickups are the way to go?

Make sure you measure the size of the new pickup and match to what's in the guitar right now, but yes an eight string version would be the best fit for a 7 string fanned fret. 9v will fit in there since that's how I managed to get it working on this guitar

Did exactly the same mod on my multiscale 7 strings a week ago: I threw in some Fluence Abasi pickups. It made it a really great guitar!

Dark bodies is one my favorite songs by fear factory. Digimortal was sick.

i love the middle position tone. it has the same effect on my 8 string LTD. Its spanky percussive and more tight on bass freqs

Why exactly did you need 9-string pickups? I have a 25.5”-27” multi scale 7-string, and my Fishman Fluence Modern 7 set fitted perfectly
Some manufacturers use bigger pickups for their fanned fret guitars. Case in point here. Measure before you buy!
Yeeee
Yeah Fear Factory 🤘
Will the Fishman universal battery pack fit in the electronics cavity? Awesome video! I might pick one up myself and do the same mods
Hard to say since that's a pretty big unit, and these pots go pretty deep in the guitar. I'd say stick to a trusty 9v for sake of space.

They came with the guitar but they had 3M stickers on them. Any foam will do tho
