I was so disappointed when they discontinued the Super Symmetry but wow this is exactly the compressor I was looking for. Well done Darkglass and great review.
Great comprehensive review guys, love my Vintage Microtubes and think this may be next. Never got on too well with compression previously but this sounds fantastic.
Great video but I‘m not with you saying the compression knob controls the overall amount of compression. That‘s what the ratio does and the compression knob seems to rather function as the threshold control.
I know that it's due to extreme settings for the demo, but sometimes It sounds too "snappy" for my taste. Anyways, as other Darkglass pedals, it's a great product.
"The pedal ships with three selectable modes...with more to be added in the future" (2:50). I was almost sold but maybe I should wait until the other modes are added. Maybe.
Thorough review as always guys! I'd like to see some rack compressors in the future. Personally, I like to hit the front of my amp with my picking dynamics and let the compressor work it's magic after the grunt has been established. Speaking of which, can this sucker be used in the loop?
Not too fond of the touch screen type stuff. In my experience anything like that will break within 2 years. Well my PS3 and PS4 buttons did. I'm assuming this is a similar control?
Yeah I worry about that too. For something exposed to as much abuse as pedals are, I'm leery of any kind of switch that is vulnerable to failure, potentially difficult to fix if it does.
I have an ambitious request. Can you do a series of videos on how to do bass home recording using different approaches? For example I have started using SansAmp Bass Driver DI with my Yamaha RBX37 and so far not bad but I wonder if using a preamp like that could benefit of other techniques I have read like Dry DI Signal + Distorted Signal, or does using a Cab IR help to enhance the sound? Also, what is the best bass and technique to match high gain guitars or blues guitars or classic rock guitars? Is there one bass to rule them all? I don't have a bass amp or mic :(
This is a pretty loaded question. The short answer is that a good bass and good D.I. (like your SansAmp) will sound great once you EQ it to your liking. Send us a message on Facebook and we can further discuss some options.
i have not played these but the MXR is modeled after the 1176 compressor which would be the "FET"-mode on the Darkglass. So in theory the Darkglass should offer the same sound the MXR has and much more with these other modes and USB settings.
Seems like there could've been room for an extra control if you combined ratio and compression into one. Haw exactly are they different? From the description given it sounds like it's make-up gain, but then what's the output control for? Couldn't they simply have given it a threshold control, ratio, attack, release, make-up gain and a blend? I do like the 3 different compression types, but that could've been included as a 3-way toggle if not for the USB expandability.
Since the attack is usually consistent while using a pick on Bass there isn't necessarily a need to demo a compressor, or even use one while using a pick. The tone, dynamics and feel are the reason you would use a pick and, in my opinion, when using a compressor on picked bass all you do is boost the attack instead of leveling out the notes. I mean, unless you are strumming arpeggios and sweeps up and down the board that is.
Between this video and Patrick Hunter's review I was sold. Purchased it almost immediately afterwards. Can't wait to add it to my board!!! Would you guys recommend putting it before or after my OD?
@@TheBassChannel definitely geared towards metal. I just don't know if the OD is gonna compress the low end enough before or after the compressor pedal itself. I'll play with it and see
Badioutube I have just read the company's website and or says it's a "Hybrid compressor", maybe because of the switches and the link with the app. However they state that the signal is kept analog. Check for yourself, I just briefly read it and I'm not part of the company, so keep in mind I might be wrong ahah www.darkglass.com/creations/hyper-luminal/
yeee just got the black one. should be coming soon in the mail. and man, do I ever hate the sounds of music man basses these days, not sure why. Used to be my fav... :(

Thanks, man! This pedal is amazing!
I'm hoping to see one from you, PATRICK!!!

I gave a thumbs up just for the "long horn" bass.
I never clicked so fast
Vs with the empress compressor.

@@douglascastro320 where did you find this information?
@@douglascastro320 oh Jesus wept. Can't get any more reliable than that. Thanks
@Tenshi I was serious until Douglas eased my mind. The topic has been resolved.
Great job getting this bad boy out there!
The killer compressor!!!

How to choose between this and the MXR 87?
Would you recommend this one or the mxr bass compressor?
I have the mxr but I want to try this one. This one is probably better.

6:14 Not sure about the obvious clunk of the compressor kicking in. Sounds nasty but not in a good way
Sounds like strings hitting the pickups to me
Jesse James Gill I was going to say the same. It sounds like this guy likes to set his pickup height maybe a bit too high for his playing style.
Great review, how would you say this stands up to the Blackfinger compressor?
What's the Price?
Very well done!
No demo using a pick? Did I miss something?

Who makes those low-profile right-angle patch cables?
EBS makes them, for one

That all in setting is just wild. Could have been it's own pedal, lol. Almost too many options on this thing
Buffered or True Bypass?
🤤
When is this out?
You guys need to check out the EHX OpAmp Big Muff!
So the compression knob does set the treshold?
Thanks for the reply Doug!
Can't believe your gear is making me GAS since 2010 :D
So, what's the verdict: is it an upgrade from the Super Symmetry?
Badioutube heck, it's literally the super symmetry plus two other kind of compressors (BJT and FET)
@@sceptwo I have been let down my digital compressors before and didn't want to suffer that fate again, and I know the SS was all analogue.

This could give one of the best Comps for working Bassists,..the MXR Bass Comp,..a good run for the 💰 money!..👍🏾✨🎶🎛..not bad at all!
Can anyone tell me how much is this pedal in your coutry?
In egypt sadly it's around 400$
He's gotta be setting the compressor wrong that nasty tick on the transits is terrible..
I just noticed that as i read your comment. Im guessing its the finger picking technique and the pedal just amplifying it.
Am I the only one who really didn’t much in change? Maybe if they used the same bass throughout the demo
What does all the ratio leds on do?
The Ratio values are:
BUS - 1.5, 2, 4, 10.
SYM - Original range of Super Symmetry.
FET - 4, 8, 12, 20, and all in
Hi guys!
Using it as a clean boost pedal, with blend at 0 and output at maximum, how many db's should I get to make my passive bass hotter?
Great question. It doesn’t specify anywhere in the documentation so we’ve asked Darkglass. We’ll have an answer soon.
Thanks a lot! It would be a great pedal to my passive MusicMan Caprice.
Going to make some eggs with chorizo and tortillas de maize.
...this video feels weird without Will walking me through all the features...
I have no idea what this pedal is for.
i thought the first riff was something off Undertale.
Alguien en español !!! Que explique los 4 botones x favor
No tiene botones, tiene 4 perillas.
I can't hear the difference on my computer, even with great speakers. I would assume in person it's much better since Darkglass is top shelf stuff.
Headphones on, bro! Good ones. The difference is great. This pedal sounds amazing. (not THE very best available, but I'd say top 3).
@@mario_504 Thanks !!!
