Two of the best me on our Dept. I learned so much from both of them. They’ve mentored kids on the street and within LAPD.
They “mentored” kids alright
Touched them a lot
@@arizonaranger527 Don’t be a troll.
@@knockonolan yes we all know how reputable the LAPD is. Hahahaha
@@gorgejung307 Like any other organization of humans, there are some good, some bad and some great. These two are the great ones.
@@knockonolan hahahaha I’m sure they’ve never covered for a shitty one or a few huh?
I was one of Deamer’s training officers at 77th Division in 1990. I did not know much about his career after training him. It appears he had a positive connection with the communities he served.
Dreamer and Norat!!!!! I worked with these legends on a tv show called Southland Back in 2010-2012. we had these awesome guys on set with us a lot. Very cool.
That was some great television! You have reason to be proud.
Southland
Awesome Cop show!
Could have lasted 20 years.
In a saturated market, this is fast becoming one of the best (if not THE best)podcast around.

Man.. Officer Norat is a legend in the Boyle Heights community, Hollenbeck station. I was part of a community program in my teen years and Officer Norat was there. Really nice man and I remembered me and my friend will tell him about all the movies and shows we've seen him on and he was cool and humbled talking about it and the actors he got to work with like Tom Cruise. I'm glad to see he's doing well! 😀
I grew up in Boyle heights and never heard of him lol not much of a legend
I had the pleasure to meet officer norat in hollenbeck he changed my life he is one of my life mentors now.
Jon hope you reach out to Dustin Poirier. His life story should have been a dead end, instead he is a ufc champion and has an amazing charity that does real work in his community.
If he stayed away from drugs and jail he woul have been fine even without fighting. Lafayette, LA is a cool little city. That's why he moved back there.
Dp is fake. Plus, his wife is in me DM's....
Champion??
Yes!

Great clip Jon! I love how you let your guests talk and you interject at the appropriate time. I’ve worked with Jeff and heard how solid Robert is.
Don’t know how this popped up in my feed but I’m glad I did. Freaking amazing stuff, Jon. Keep it up. We all appreciate this stuff, bro!!! Thank ya!
Good videos Jon, you have always been a personal hero of mine. I love everything I have ever seen you in. This world needs more of you and people like you. Thanks for everything!
These dudes are cool. My pops worked all around South Los Angeles since the 90s..from the harbor to south east, up to 77th division. Growing up in south la I want to be like my father, seeing struggle in your every day life changes you at a young age. Makes you grow up quick, you see and experience things which a lot of people don’t in a life time. But To all my LA folks, Y’all be safe out there.. shits crazy right now
What an amazing Podcast and Episode. These types of Cops are the unsung Heroes. This is the leadership and compassion at its finest.

I randomly was recommended this channel, and holy shit!! How does this not have more subs?! Awesome content Jon
These are the dudes that handled business in the streets and was respected! It was not just a job for these 2! Much love and respect!💯✌🏾👊🏾👊🏾
What kept me away from gangs back in the early 80's was the Explorer program in Rampart Div., After graduating from high school I joined the Marine Corps for 8 years and was honorably discharged. Unfortunately I wasn't able to join LAPD ,but later on i was a Public Safety officer with General Services Police Dept. before it got taken over by LAPD.I was able to make a lateral transfer to the Dept. of Water & Power as a Public Safety officer. Thanks to these officers that care about the youth .Semper FI.
@slimshady2311 my score wasn't high enough during that time.
I have no clue how I came across this video, but so glad I did!
I went to basic training with Jeff’s son back in 2012. His son and I became pretty tight and of course I met his parents at our graduation. Jeff seemed like a gentle giant then, and still does now!
The new years incident the officer referred too is still going on strong every new year's in Chicago. Ours last a good 15 minutes after midnight. Amazing podcast
This is an important side of police work that needs to be shown more often
Dope conversation. Good police are a special breed of human.
Hey Jon love how real and gritty this podcast is…..🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Worked with both these men….. awesome guys!!
Thanks for this series... These interviews... Good stuff, Jon... You're a good man.
God bless you Jon, I love the punisher and this raw interview format that isn’t weighed down with agendas and biases and judgement. Respect.
Jon Bernthal was awesome in Shot Caller too😉

The PAL saved my life. Got into playing basketball at the local ymca with the PAL. and I became pro and traveled the world! 🤙
Wow,I can't believe that my favorite ex-cop,my dear brother Jeff Norat is on a podcast with my favorite actor,Jon Bernthal! This is awesome, that my brother Jeff came to visit me with my favorite lady in the world, aside from mom,my dear sister Rosie Norat who finally got around to crossing the border into TJ where I've been in deportation status all alone going on 12 long years! When they showed me a taste of the podcast .I was immediately blown away! I'm on this of the fence due to some of the stuff they are discussing, street gangs, drugs, and supid ever more! For there's no rock&roll, far from it,all you get on that life style is a whole bunch of blues! To be honest,if it wasn't for the real love that Jeff has for me,along with my dear sister,I would be living on a gutter, that's a true fact! I'd never thought I'll come to love a police officer, but Jeff is more than an ex-cop,he's my hero! My sister promised me that she would get an autograph from Bernthal,I can't wait cause I'm Jon's number one fan on this side of the border! I'm currently trying to write my life story, hey who knows, maybe Jon will have me as a guest in the future, that would be awesome!
Was that the whole interview? I like hearing old stories from retired LAPD officers. All the shit they go through and 6 months is not enough training. That guy is right you need at least 5 years under your belt to be a proper officer.
It all starts somewhere though. It's not a job you can ever fully train for. You have to do it and hone your instincts on the job. The academy is a foundation, the street is where the real training happens.
You need to be apart of patreon to listen to the full thing. Kind of lame
How this doesn't have a million views yet I don't understand. Amazing
I was arrested in the late eighties best thing to ever happen to me I did beat the charges but when it happened I was so drunk going down the wrong path fast Ive been so sober ever since just the stress of it all was enough to wake me up!!!
Great guests for a great podcast. More of this please.
I was trained at the fullerton college police academy.. ALL LAPD legends taught me there, Higbie, Smitson, Stokes just to name a couple. Real Men, Real Cops. I loved it! Good Cops from the old LAPD best in the WORLD!
Taught you how to get away with murder? LAPDs most famous trait.
@@gorgejung307 HA!!!!!! There's always a few bad apples on every team. Don't let that discourage from the thousands of brave men and women that serve society with a smile.
"Legends" Higbie, Smitson, Stokes, how about Hightower and Kelley? Seeking valor at the cost of the civilians. Civilians are not sheep or the enemy. Most people need a rehabilitation and coaching, not a criminal record or death. Prisons make people even more hardened criminals.
@@glocktown21 Hahahaha they’re all bad. They all lie to protect each other and a lot of them are some sort of white nationalists.

My memory is fuzzy, but the guy in the hat, was called Batman by the guys on the street. He was on COPS and everyone was saying hi to him on the street.
Loved talking to these guys at Newton. Funniest freakin guys on the job.
Papa Jeff! Love that man. Such an incredible guy.
Gosh this is breath taking. These men are legends.
Never rolled alone to the Pueblos when on patrol...
Mr. Bernthal, I worked with both of these guys. I have so many great memories of our time together. Please if you can have Capt Dial on your podcast. In my 30 years on the job there are very few true leaders I had the opportunity to work for. In my top three, two of them are women and she was one of them!
I agree 100%. Connie Dial is an amazing women and broke some much ground for women in law enforcement.
Plus her uncover work infiltrating radical groups in the 70’s and then her authoring fiction books in retirement. Such a unique woman.
They taught you how beat a minority and get away with it?
The level of humility and authentic respect for other people during this conversation is inspiring. You can’t deny that.
Jon Bernthal is a man who takes everything in from the person whos speaking to him thinks about it then responds, His level of respect is among the best ive ever seen as a podcast host he dosent spout bullshit & talk about random shit that takes away from the guest whos speaking he listens cause he wants to learn not gain attention, thats why he posts these episodes.
Gary Jubelin is a former homicide detective here in Australia. He’s worked on some of the largest cases here in the last 30 years. He’s been portrayed in a television series. He’s also a author. He would be a great guest on the podcast!
Yeah but he was also fired for illegal recordings
@@crazycat6lad918 and? He was trying to find a missing child. It’d be a great podcast and would show some Australian crime on a US based RUclips channel.

Thank you sir!
Also don’t fall for that scam. C’mon man
Officer Bob Deamer once worked for me. He was a character. He once showed me a video of during a Marine ceremony his unit made a parachute drop and landed on the Colonel's wife in the stands.
My uncle(great) was a Dieppe raid soldier ,captured ,survived and became a famous montreal cop,Jacque Cinq-Mars.in the bad ol days...can read about him on line..lots of badass stories and he always said soldier cop need the same mindset...wonder what he would think about being a cop today
Only person that comes up when you search that name is an archaeologist
Not the yukon guy keep looking black and white pic of him in his uniform
As a person who grew up in South Central, Los Angeles in the 80's - 90's, I can say from experience that C.R.A.S.H. units are responsible for the contentious relationship between the community and Police currently.
Absolutely was wondering how he didnt even think to ask follow up wuestions. And how they blatantly ignore the rodney king beating in 91 and then “wonders” why his job was so hard. Foh with these racist pos lapd esp in the 90s
Hey… i graduated in 1988 from Sylmar High in the SFV. I remember the CRASH units! Gang sweep thursdays, they would hand out citations and they would call you out by name and ride your ass about what youre doing out of school etc.
FUCK CRASH.K
@Active Security Officer how much crack did u smoke before writing this! Everything u said was false! 30 urs later n still to stupid to look at facts. Foh none of tgat is true lapd in the 90s r the worst. Dont suck there 🐔 ur better than that
@Active Security Officer lol 🤡 not even close to true
Interesting reply to the loyalty question at 2:22. Loyalty to who or what gets tricky when it comes to law enforcement. Dedication to job, duty and community is a much more reassuring mindset. If only this mindset would become less embattled amongst the ranks.
This is one of the best POD CAST about LAW ENFORCEMENT I have ever seen 🙌. Keep up the great work. GOD BLESS ALL LAW ENFORCEMENT 🙏 🙌 ❤️ .
LAPD was discriminated against non Vietnam veteran by giving 10 point bonus to veterans hiring. It was proven that military experiences did not help make a good cop.
I wasn't hired until years later because that 10 point bull even though my net score was higher.
Became a fan of yours from Walking Dead. Watched pretty much everything you’ve been in. You’re a good actor and interviewer. Keep up the work.
Old school coppers. Love it. How many unbelievable war stories do these guys have.? I got on in the late 90s. I don't recognize the Job anymore.
Worked with these guys in hollywood!
Bobby and Jeff are LEGIT Street Cops!!!!
I dont know how i never knew about this podcast. this is good
We need more men like them!
Bernthal needs to do an episode with the Punisher Frank Castle
I love how these tough men can speak with such reverence of a woman
Great Chanel. Recommending.
I've actually heard of that before, it's called "Lead Rain" on "Pouring Lead"...
When u like the video 2 seconds in because YOU already know it’s going to be a banger… 👍🏽
Wish all cops were trained by these two gents.
No there liars or blatantly leaving out soecific parts of being a cop in la in the 90s… look up rodney king and whT they did to the black community after that. Especially look up drug arrests specifically weed arrest and see what group of people make of the majority of those arrests. Foh with these racist misleading pos cops. Lapd is the absolute worst
The look of Jon planning a Connie Dial movie.
Phenomenal what you’re doing! Show people that not ALL cops are bad. Just like EVERY other group… They ALL have their 10%.
Semper Fi, from a former Marine to u guys, STAY SAFE N GOD BLESS!!!!

great podcast.. awesome topic
Wow, keep this up Jon, these are superb people and your podcast is definitely on a great trajectory. Really great stuff man, thank you to all involved.
Superb people don't sign up for socialist jobs programs where they don blue costumes, personally enforce the democrats laws and taxes upon the public with their own two hands and become parasites on the taxpayers for their entire lives.
Jon who do we need to raise hell with to get you back as the punisher?
Damn, no kidding. Absolutely the only person who should be playing the Punisher!
I wish the full episode was on here.
Great guys, i never worked with them but they're solid. I cant wait to retire July 27th 2024 can't wait for the weight on the chest to be lifted. I'm 2nd on the seniority roster and highiest seniority P3 on the LAPD. I'm the last standing....CLASS 2-81 !
HEYYYYYY whats up jon, if you see this i want you to know your the best actor man i wanna see more lead role movies with you.loved this dude back the blue!!
This is a really great podcast!
Unfortunately we're losing this fight. 15-20 years ago, it was hundreds of applicants applying for 1 spot or a handful of spots on a department at most. It's completely upside down now. Dozens or hundreds of jobs are open, some departments are struggling to get a single applicant. No one wants the job any more. You know who to thank for that if you've been paying attention the last couple years. Hate to see what becomes of the profession in the next 20 years unless things change drastically.
I don’t think that’s the case everywhere, I live in south Florida and it is still super competitive.
The blame lies with corrupt cops and leadership along with a failed judicial system that rewards bad and/or illegal behavior by those who swore to uphold and defend the constitution. Officers who take the oath seriously that have the ability to leave personal biases in their lockers before they go out are getting painted with the same paint brush that the corrupt cops are by virtue of the uniform. What was once done in the dark has more than come to the light in the age of cameras. These crimes are being caught on camera by the public and by the cops own cameras which can be seen in the media on a loop. Good and well intentioned people are foregoing applying for the job because they don't want the headache and vitriol because they would wear the same uniform as the undesirables. Department heads only addresses the bad actors when the acts are too egregious to turn a blind eye to. There is very little to no accountability from the heads of some of these departments. Until there are changes from the top as far as weeding out the bad officers (the ones with multiple force/discourtesy complaint) and doing real background investigation on candidates.
The guy on the right is a cop straight from central casting
Jon is indeed a great actor. The Punisher is the best
Would love to see an episode on Bernthals visits to the islands and his Weinsten interactions.

You gotta reach out to Rafael Perez, Brian Liddy and David Mack bro. Now that would be crazy to hear about all the Rampart Crash Stories from the 90s.
I believe he has the best intro
Yeah watch a lot of stuff man and you're doing a pretty good job this is a good stuff. Let these guys talk and get deep. My grandpa was a cop for a long time in Seattle and it was a great way to grow up and it was good to see especially seeing what's going on now I got a different perspective and I really appreciate it even though he's not around no more it was really good thing. Everybody just needs to remember when your mom or your sister or brother or somebody's in trouble dad even you know who they call. Warts and all they're coming and they want to help, they want to get the bad guy. We do live in confusing world these days, I still think most of these guys their intent is true and nobody's going to confuse that.
I was a kid in south central in the 90s.

What it takes to be a good cop and Marine is determination, loyalty to the Constitution, not following illegal laws or orders, and helping the people you swear to protect when they need it.
Of course that last one the situational every American are their own first responders and responsible for their own protection, but if the police are available and can help that is.
What’s an illegal law?
Cops do not protect citizens. That’s been proven over and over again. Some cops are decent people who help but they also help cover their murdering coworkers. So fuckem all.
