Yes, because unlike “Advance Australia Fair,” this song actually pays some tribute to Indigenous Australians. The current anthem ignores the indigenous population. That’s why I I like NZ’s anthem over our own-it pays tribute to the Maori by having the first stanza sung in Maori.

Yes Neil makes me want to cry with pride especially for my parents who went through the really hard times of WW2 my dad was a Commando & never spoke of it & my mum was an ensign in the Navy both very quietly proud Australians who for their entire life volunteered to help people in need especially our war veterans and gave money & raised money to support Australians in need this was the typical Australian that isn't spoken of in the media we are told to be ashamed of our white history.

I am a very proud Australian citizen with 5 grown up kids and 12 grand kids by now. Came from west Germany 34 years ago, never left Australia since, but drove all arround the coast line (35.000 km over 2 years ) we are the most blessed country on earth. I shed many tears while this song was singing by a girl on the day when I received my citizenship. All those images of different lives running through my heads along with the song. And my whole journey from many hardships and life risking situations to the point of being in that room becoming a nationality of one of the best country in the whole world. It’s just so crazy. I love this song, because not only does it remind people that Australians have been here for tens of thousands of years, but many of us were brought here without much say in the matter as well. You know what's amazing? And I think most Aussies would agree with me on this, but you can be Timorese AND Australian at the same time. For us, it's not so much about where you were born as it is your spirit. Being Australian isn't a geographical thing, or a race thing, it's an attitude one.
@@remielpollard787 No you cannot be Timorese and Australian at the same time. Australia was built on a racial policy. The first law passed when we federated was the Immigration Restriction Act of 1901, AKA the White Australia Policy.
@@Azetay67 don't know if you've noticed or not, but it's not 1901 anymore, and those laws were repealed a long time ago, which makes them irrelevant.
@@remielpollard787 They are relevant because they were the entire reason we federated and became a nation. The people who made this country what it is all believed in a White Australia. The people who fought and died in WW1 and WW2 were fighting for the British Empire and a White Australia.

I play this daily as part of my prayers for our brothers and sisters in Australia. I am American but in these evil times, we are all Australians.

I heard this song months before we had a vacation in Australia, almost 2 yrs ago. I would say that this song is heart warming, same with my experience in Australia :) Hope to live in your great country soon...

I'd humbly suggest Northwest Passage by Stan Rogers as an unofficial Canadian anthem
And while on this roll, how about Caledonia by Dougie Maclean as Scotland's?
@@rogerbuzacott2648 Northwest Passage is definitely a strong candidate for Canada; I'm an avid Stan Rogers fan, and that's a truly great song, telling of the long-time search for that elusive sea route.
For Scotland, your mention of Caledonia brings to mind _Ferry Me Over_ by Andy M. Stewart, and its refrain:
"Ferry me over,
"Ferry me there,
"To leave the hills of Caledonia
"Is more than my heart can bear."
I'd place that in the running for Scotland.
For that matter, there's also _Fire in the Glen,_ by the same author. There's a really superb, mesmerizing version of it by a now-defunct female duo of Jennifer Culley and Brooke Parkhurst, that went by the name Clishmaclaver (a name which unfortunately for searching, has been used by others). They were local to the Washington, DC area around the 1990's, and they made some marvelous recordings; that song is on an album titled, "Roots Entwined," from a line in the Si Kahn song, _Luray Women,_ which they also do a top-flight job of, on that album. Unfortunately, due to its relative obscurity, it may not be possible to track down now.

There are anthems that aren't officially "national" anthems; an anthem just sings the praises of some country. The other two anthems I mentioned in my main comment aren't national anthems, either.

Actually, the US has 'God Bless America' lyrics and music by Irving Berlin and introduced and sung by Kate Smith which should be the US national anthem.
