It makes me cry too. I try to sing along proudly but my voice always breaks from being so choked up from emotion. It acknowledges the custodians of our great southern land as being the first Australians, it acknowledges the convicts from my ancestors and is all inclusive for every person in Australia. Definitely should be our national anthem.

I think the differences between our two nations are that the US values are religious beliefs, reverence for the military and veterans, respect given to power and wealth. We are almost a secular nation, our values are cultural as opposed to political, and everyone is regarded as more or less equal. It's not perfect, but more harmonious.

This song also breaks my heart....I'm canadian but I feel this song and from the perspective of the Australian aboriginals and the early settlers colonizing the continent. Then there's Slim dusty, singing about waltzing matilda who's also referenced in this great song. It's a spectacular song, period! There is so much to be said about this Australian anthem.

Another melting pot, like Canada, Australia and other western countries with roots mostly from the U.K. & Europe. America is very divided though and for many different reasons. The USA is such an amazing democracy, you guys just need to be more accepting and inclusive of different ideas, races, cultures, political agendas, sexual preferences, religious freedoms etc, etc, etc. I think the world of most US citizens, you are our neighbours, friends and family in Canada.

Well done - you are one of the over 70% of fellow Aussies that made our indigenous feel like second class citizens in their own country. Go and do some nursing in the outback, as I have, and you would see that our indigenous are not treated the same as every other person. I called the coppers 20 years ago for an indigenous lady that was being sexually assaulted in real time in my back lane in Kalgoorlie - the coppers didn't even COME!! So, do you still think we are all the same? My sister worked in family and children's service and her stories are more gut churning than my nursing stories. The voice wasn't about wokeness. Why do you think that the aged pension is released for indigenous 10 years before us whites?? If we are all the same then why is their life expectancy at least a decade less than ours?? You should have done some actual research before you closed your mind.

As the world mourns Judith, I thank her & the Seekers for their music which is our national treasure as are The Seekers. What a magical voice she had which I had the pleasure of growing up with being a child of the 60's. Judith was able to sing impromptu & perfect, every time, time after time. Our wonderful Australian songbird, rest peacefully beautiful soul. I hope you know how much you were truly loved by so, so many 💕💕💕

Being of Vietnamese heritage and living as a Australian, This song touches the heart strings every time. It has greater meaning than our Australian Anthem itself. As a refugee, we found salvation in Australia and a Future for our generations present and more to come. I wake up each morning humbled Knowing that I have woken up being Australian and be forever grateful. One day, my children to be, will be reminded of the gravity of why.... ....

Nice post Sean. I like to joke that I was a refugee from Thatcher's Britain back in 1988. My Aussie-born son's gap year included trips to Vietnam and Cambodia. He understands the history but said he absolutely loved both countries and the people.

Hi Terri. I,m from Melbourne, I just read your comments. I have a daughter who is a volunteer in the Country Fire Authority, she was on standby with a strike team, thank goodness she wasn’t needed. Australia is great country, just like the USA, I would to thank your country for sending your fire fighters over to Australia to help out. Sadly 3 of them lost their lives, our thoughts and prayers with those heroes and their family and friends. Have a look at some of the other songs of the Seekers, they are wonderful group, with some wonderful music to listen to. From George in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. God Bless. 🇦🇺🇺🇸
