Yes, the shank grew. The 10mm material is actually slightly larger then 10mm and wouldn't fit in a 10mm hole, otherwise I'd have made the hole smaller in the first place...
True, it is. I *suspect* this is either intended to be a matter of learning how to make rivets using *his* tools - or, he’s making rivets that he’s unable to purchase - either purchase in general, or purchase at a price *he* can afford. Hot-rivets are rare in my area, and are expensive *when* they can be found. Note that this method is a slow and labor-intensive (and potentially expensive!) way of making rivets. I hope he doesn’t need to make all that many of them.
In this video the rivet had a 18mm diameter head, which was about 7.5mm tall. See also ruclips.net/video/PYL0TPyxWaE/видео.html I subsequently made another top die that gave a rivet head size which was 17mm diameter, which was about 8.5mm tall. The rivets were formed from 10mm (10.4mm) steel rod, the hole in the die was 10.5mm, the die was 35mm deep, the rivet blank 50mm, which meant 15mm was left proud of the bottom die to form the rivet.
great job, love the fly press videos and ideas, thanks for making them
So easy when it's hot, thanks for the video
So easy when as an amateur Smith you have a fly press
Мы изготавливали заклёпки из прута 30 мм, оснастку имели такую же, но в место пресса использовали молот. С уважением 🤝, удачи вам.
If the rivet material is 10mm and the hole in the bottom die is 10.5mm, did the rivet shank grow in diameter to make it stick in the die?

This seems to me to be a lot of money and time into 1 rivet God bless have a great day

rivits can be a pain when making but when done correctly they look really sexy
