I think it’s because CiCi and Nathan were away, and lee’s best in a duo. Now why they didn’t pair him up with the captain or literally anyone else.. who knows
Loving these “Need a rig in a hurry” videos. I’m starting to warm to Mark Bass as an amp option. The Sire Jazz bass was lovely. And think that am getting used to the headstock certainly in Jazz Bass format. I’ve always rated G&L as a brand. And if decided to use 5 string again, the one there is an interesting option. It’s certainly got some versatility as far as switching options are concerned. And ironically sounded more like a MusicMan than the Sterling did. Think I’d be torn between the Sire and G&L too. I’d probably still gravitate towards the Sire Jazz as that would be more familiar ground. However that G&L did have that certain something. Think had I lost all my gear I might well be going away with the 5 string G&L and the 4 string version of the Sire Jazz. I might choose a different Drive/Boost pedal and pay the difference. Something that was forgotten about is a tuner pedal or clip on tuner would be an essential item to replace. Loved this video and the previous one from CiCi and her solution. Now very tempted to try both Amp options they came up with in each video. Am now trying to think what I would choose as an emergency rig for under a grand…. My Choice: 40th Anniversary Precision in the Blonde or Dakota Red. £399 (or Squier Classic Vibe 60’s) Ashdown Studio 15 combo £399 Zoom B3n multi fx pedal £199
I think Lee made the right choice with the G&L. Sound wise it seems far more flexible than either of the other two. I would probably have gone with a different amp myself but I am not very familiar with Markbass products.
From the Anderson’s stock right now mine would be B stock squire Jaguar H - £245 New Darkglass microtubes 200 - £500 Second hand Tc electronic 4x10 - £200
I bought a Bass just for recording home use , its an Ibanez 5 string short scale ,it being under £300 I thought it was going to be a nightmare to use but its fantastic ti play and sounds great with some comp added .
Lee got the controls of the G&L partly wrong. He got the pickup selector and series/parllel switch correct. But he got the third switch kinda wrong as it's a Passive/Active/Active with Treble Boost switch and the active mode is more of a gain boost for volume or longer cable runs. There's only one volume knob, and the other two are bass and treble (which is the same as any other passive' bass's tone knob) and they're cut only, so they work in both passive and active. I love my G&L Tribute L-2500 (my other bass is a SBMM Ray35 and agreed that the two feel almost identical in my hands) and I find that the pointy headstock is a lot more palatable on a 3+2 configuration than the 4 in a line or 4+1.
I worry about Andertons's compensation scheme. They go around crashing into musicians and only ever give them £1000 no matter the value of the kit they destroy. I wonder if they collect up the broken stuff, fix it up and sell it on sat a profit... Baaaad Lee!
I do love the sub series stingrays, but you can’t buy them online. All their necks look like an ikea table leg in the flesh, but some of them feel like them too. Tbh the first thing I do when I shop for a bass is walk around stroking their necks like a pervert until I feel one that makes me want to pick it up and try it.
I owned a L-2000 for a while. It was a very versatile and great playing instrument with great sounds. It will fit in the most situations for a bass Player. But I like playing around with Basses, so i sold it...whatever.
Was a gunbunny 40 years ago so always count my ears as suspect. Sometimes I am amazed that the bass I thought heads and shoulders above the rest is confirmed by someone with Lee's chops.
haha the reason why I cannot get a Sire bass is literally because I really hate the headstock shape, otherwise their gear is awesome. But I just can't ^^
No, it looks like a magnet or a mic, but its not the mic. 1:56 Its like a giant smart watch or something. They just legalized it here, so I fully may be imagining this.
clever marketing -- the video pushed selling off those black 5ers ... as stock has gone downhill since videos was upped ;-) entertainung video, however, lee is playing so lovely, i am seriously jealous 😂
Not a bassist here. As guitarist I would pick the G&L. But to my ears it sounds like the amp is at the top of it's input. Or that the speaker is at the point of wobble and flobble. If my amp would make that sound, I would back off a bit. But then again, I like bass to sigh. I would aim for less punch and pop in the tone. So the Sire would be my second choise
"You picked the right time to get in an horrific crash" - Cici is hilarious and so genuine.
Love Lee's playing, he is so lyrical and inventive, not just a technique robot.
G&L are massively underrated. Great basses 👌🏻
Of course, they are the final work of the master.
Welcome back Lee, I as one have missed your wit and playing skills. Please Anderton's if your listening, bring him back more offen!

Don't know what he is doing now 2024,,,but on these videos Lee is a Fantastic Bass player 🎸🤠from Arkansas USA .
Love the review. Would have been nice to get Cici's opinion on the basses too :)
I love watching people stumble over the G&L controls
Switches are: Pickup selector, Series/Parallel, Preamp Off/On/On with Treble Boost
Knobs are: Volume, Passive Treble Control, Passive Bass Control
You guys, are "for-get-ta-about-it", hope to see more of you both - that orange bass looks amazing - Best to you both - Jim - Arkansas -USA
Hey brother,,,in Fort Smith,, Arkansas 🎸🤠
These duo needs to do more bass/gears videos.
We need Cici to pick next.
Amazing and a fun video to watch. Amazing bass licks.
So fantastically glad to see Lee back. More groovy playing, less metal/rock stuff! Much welcomed auditory refresh

Excellent. I hope we'll get to see Cici meet the same challenge.

I have the active V3 four-string in that orange colour and I flippin' love it.
Same here with the five-string, even if it's a bit on the heavy-ish side. It plays great!
Good choice Lee. £450 for the L2K series is a steal.
I have a Sire V7, but just can't put down my G&L L2000. SVT head and Bergantino cab. MONSTER sound.
I bought a Bass just for recording home use , its an Ibanez 5 string short scale ,it being under £300 I thought it was going to be a nightmare to use but its fantastic ti play and sounds great with some comp added .

Time and time again when someone picks up a G&L for the first time it becomes their favorite bass
Cici FTW!!!
is it just my sub or was there some distortion on the direct signal.

G&L MFD pickups are great in guitar or bass form

First! Love these videos!
Excellent!
I got a Sterling Stingray 5. Good bass. Didnt pay that for it though, got it a bit cheaper than that, LOLZ.

What the thing hanging off the northwest corner of the amp? Am I imagining that?

I actually have a live bass rig under £1000
TC electronics BAM 200 amp head with a dean Hillsboro 2 bass and a boss GT-1B

I dig the sound of Music Mans, but they just look so cheesy 90s KROC.
Sire MonoNeon model ? 🤣🤣🤣

The G+L has better tone and less fret buzz.
Funky proprietary headstock designs keep a manufacturer away from copyright violation suits.
Keeps potential customers away too though.
G&L headstocks are horrific. Just awful. Bit of a pathetic reason to not play the guitars I admit, but just can't get over it!
I thought the amp had to be loud enough to gig with. No way that little thing qualifies.
That G&L has a way wider variety of tone selection available. Music Man sounded shite - Muddy and indistinct
Probably more to do with the di-Level than with the instrument.
Yup, Music Man sounded like farts.
why do i feel like this guy was secretly an american spy pretending to be british
Why not go with a Boss Katana amp instead of that dinky Markbass? You wouldn't even need to spend money on a distortion pedal
Crap crap crap, where'[s the captain, and Pete? not seen anything from them this week
Calm down, have a cuppa and a lie-down darling.
