    Totally agree on the Aerodyne... used to see them all the time on craigslist for $650- $750 and they totally rock. The exports with the binding and no pickguard look so sick plus immaculate japanese fit and finish as always. A kick-ass "pro" bass to be sure.

    I bought my Aerodyne (Export version) back in 2014 and it is still one of my favorite basses to go. Super neck and the sound of the pickups in comination with the brass wood brings out a very unique wooden tone, which you dont find elsewhere in the Fender palette. Used on reverb they go for 700-1000 EUR and are good value for the money.
    And to be honest: The Aerodynes are very cool looking and a perfect rock axe on stage.
    Personally I like the Japan models because they are qualitywise flawless for a reasonable price.

    My first jazz bass was/is a domestic Japan jb-62 in “ us gunmetal blue”. Kind of a mix between lake placid blue and Inca silver. Totally agree they are incredible basses. Great video, love the hidden gem content

    Last week I bought a 2020 fender american standard as body natural finish for $900, the only thing I don't like is the poly finish. Great list thank you

      I'm curious, I guess you prefer nitro finish? May I ask why? I've always had poly finish, seems to do the job.
      Or maybe is it the neck, I definitely prefer satin.

    I've been playing a G&L Fallout Tribute bass for a fews years. It's a larger 30 inch scale. I paid $650 a few years ago. Great in your face bass for the money.

    I like the Epiphone Thunderbird’64. Not for everyone sound-wise or anyone that can’t handle neck dive, but a great bang for the buck.

      It's definitely an odd body shape, but it plays great and sounds awesome. It's an excellent re-creation of the original instrument, and it's excellent value for the price. It has become my go-to bass, and I have ten to choose from.

    Thanks for your review, it's nice and actually rare to have options around 1000. The reviews are all cramped up in the 500.
    By any chance, do you have experience with the Shecter exotic series, specifically the P4 exotic? Can't find it in boutiques, it has to be ordered.
    I'm looking for a solid, stable instrument, my experience with the 500 range is that they require more maintenance ( the instrument has to live with me, not vice versa ). Shecter P4 Exotic seems like a solid choice, but I'm all opened, I'll definitely take a look at your japanese suggestion.

    When you’re buying vintage guitars do you ask about truss rod functionality? I’m looking at a local listing for an ‘87 LP Junior and it’s got a good setup but the owner doesn’t know if the truss rod works. I’m thinking about risking it.

    My fellow Young bass players, don’t get fender’s , they play and sound crummy, get MUSIC MAN , YAMAHA, or WARWICK, save your money , work overtime , you will love them. Fender basses and guitars have a FARTY tone and Playability to them, this guy is just trying to sell you his stuff.

    • @aflashfloodofgear
      @aflashfloodofgear  4 месяца назад +7

      I think enough players have made great music with Fender guitars and basses to prove that's not a very accurate sentiment. Also, we happily stock plenty of Yamaha and Musicman instruments at the shop, so that's a stretch. We stock the stuff I enjoy, so yes I am going to put effort into having items I would recommend in our inventory.
